  • Trying to be of help here - yes this must be the last appearance of the two. They performed in the late 80's for comic relief. Peter died January 1995, Dudley became ill 1994 ish. Notice he looks great here so... I am guessing this bit of footage is 1992. Do challenge me on it if you know the exact date anyone. The point remains, this is the last time together. rip

  • I loved these two, together and apart~ Bedazzled is one of my favourite movies.

  • Would someone please upload Goodbye Again's "Long Distance" (ATV 1968)? I know that it still exists, as there's a clip in "The Comedians' Comedian."

    Many Thanks.

  • @nuddywizz I agree the BBC should put these old Pete Dud programmes on on TV seeing that they wipped quite a few them in the past. That was scandalous what they did pure vandalism there.

  • good old bob

  • if it wasnt for bob monkhouse, there would be nothing at all left of not only but also.

Bob obssessively taped everything, and after his death the bbc were handed the not only but also shows bob had recorded, because the bbc had wiped ALL their tapes they had of it..

  • @andreaukok Thank God for him. I saw that documentary on BBC 4 about his life and that he obssessively tapped loads of tv programmes.

  • I read that Peter Cook insisted that the BBC let him buy the original 'Not Only But Also' tapes in the hope that his money prevent the erasing of the masters and they still said NO..................What the FUCK??

  • Michael Weatherly (Anthony DiNozzo) mentioned them both on NCIS last night....

  • Wiping the tapes? They probably used them for party political broadcasts. As Peter Cook would say.... "Cunts".

  • The Young Ones FTW!

  • DOLLY WILL YOU GET A POLAROID OF THAT!!!!

  • Yellow beard!,find and watch

  • Prolly used the tapes to stack up to the moon, the heartless creeps

  • that's two guys that really look like they'd rather be anywhere else. very sad, that.

  • @rupertdaniels55 I agree. It really comes across strongly.

  • Looked like very hard work for Dud to smile at the end of this clip. If this was their last appearance together I wish I hadn't seen it - much prefer to remember them when they were young and fresh and funny.

  • Agreed - this was a tough go.

  • Why? This is great :D

  • RIP GUYS.

  • Around the same time they appeared on the Little Picture Show with Mariella Frostrup, promoting the video release of Derek and Clive Get the Horn. It was shown at stupid o'clock in the morning so sadly not many people saw it.

  • Whenever I hear phrases like "what's left of Not Only But Also", it makes me loathe and detest the BBC even more. Fucking inconsiderate, brainless, tape-wiping cunts.

  • It would be interesting to know what they used the tapes for afterwards-!

  • Terry and June?

  • @DSisterson What makes it worse is the fact that the BBC actually refused Peter Cooks offers to either a) buy the tapes to prevent their destruction or b) allow him to buy blank tapes for the BBC to use instead. Mind you, this is an organisation that was so small minded that they sent round a memo calling for depts within the BBC to ban Spike Milligan for 1 year because of Milligan's comments to the austrailian media about how small minded and bureaucratic the BBC was

  • @DSisterson Apparently tennis, i shit you not they taped over "not only but also" with fucking tennis. Wimbledon or some shit like this. I read in this book on comedy archives, the name of which escapes me but i nearly threw up.

  • @petesemaj I heard one of the great animators of Buggs Bunny tell the story of how a female exec at WB had all their gels burned. And he said he and the other artists begged to be allowed to give them out on the street just to save their art work.

Soupy Sales' tapes also were lost.

  • @DSisterson

probably the fucking one show. either that or some panaroma bullshite that no-one gives a flying fuck about.

  • @DSisterson I heard they used the wiped tapes for One Man and his Dog.

  • @marcel911 Not a bad double act, but nothing like as funny.

  • @brandstifter68 -what is even sadder is that Peter Cook went to the BBC, offered to buy the tapes and buy brand new tapes to replace them...but the BBC declined the offer..how's that for the height of insane bloody mindness?.....the comic equivalent of wiping the Beatle's master tapes.

  • @brandstifter68 - Quite agree with you. Quite agree.

  • @brandstifter68 I feel the same about what they did to Doctor Who.

  • @brandstifter68 Not saying it's a good thing, but... chill. Hindsight is always 20/20. Those tapes cost around 2000 quid (corrected for inflation) per hour. Imagine all the dime-a-dozen shows that nobody will ever look back on. Cookery shows, variety, quizes... you try picking the current show that's going to become legendary.

  • @toresbe The thing is, Peter Cook asked the BBC if he could have the tapes if he bought brand new ones to replace them, and they wouldn't let him! That was a bit petty if you ask me. Obviously it wasn't practical to keep hold of everything, but they could be incredibly short-sighted - they taped over the moon landing the very next day with horse racing!

  • @toresbe Yes. As Dr.Octave states, PETER COOK BEGGED TO BUY HIS TAPES! But it was, "Ooo. Never been done before...not in the spiral notebook..." The only reason we're lucky now, is that THE BBC RE-BOUGHT TAPES THEY HAD SOLD TO OTHER COUNTRIES! Sorry for the vehemence, but can you imagine how much brilliance we've missed?

  • Cook was the greatest ever

  • sad that we've lost them both but still,..............i reckon they'd have the horn

  • Great at the end. "Too saucy."

  • Ah I miss them

And Dud is heavily under appreciated, Cook was far less the man without him (and visa versa).

Long live Pete and Dud, god bless em

  • NICE.

  • oliver phelps should play cook some day.

  • @goofygoat2009

    Oliver Phelps??

    Rhys Ifans more like!

  • Cook was a true comedy genius, and Dud 's nae bad either. The Derek and Clive albums are fackin sublime

  • Miss them both to death.

  • Ahhhh. God bless 'em both. Derek & Clive Live is the album that changed my life! I was seven when I first heard it and I became one of the filthiest-mouthed people I've ever known as a direct result : )

  • Comment removed
