Well there looking in the wrong place for the "god gene" because there really isn't one. Human beings are the only animal on earth that can drive creativity from trauma and loss. Example if a mouse is trapped in a cage with food and water it adapts to its environment if you put a human in that situation he or she would attempt to escape. We are genetically programed to become creative when we encounter situations of no escape which allowed humans to survive without any physical advantage.

Another thing...that lecture was awful. Religious fundamentalism is NOT caused by a gene. It's caused by real political, economic, and social problems....problems that are often aggravated by Western interference. This would just make the problem worse. How awful that instead of looking to see how we could change our ways, we instead opt to "vaccinate" other people. Sick..

@avedic We are not born religious, however, perhaps those who are prone to become fundamentalists ('bible thumpers', as I like to call them) have the potential for the "god gene" to take on massive proportions. It said that mice w/o the 'god gene' died w/in a few days, and that it contained dopamine and other chemicals. We ALL have it, in theory, but some must have a mutation or something of the sort. I wouldn't mind if the Harold Campings of the world disappeared, actually.

@avedic There is a difference between fundamentalism and radicalism. What about people like David Koresh? His fanatical, radical religious views were not caused by political, economic, or social problems. What makes someone so intensely religious that they want to kill for their beliefs. The only explanation might be that they are driven to do so by genetic means. We have people who are predisposed for depression and other mental illnesses, so why not religious whack jobs, too?

What the hell??? I just stumbled across this. I'm not religion...but I am spiritual. I know I know...everyone says that. And that's a good thing! It shows we're getting back to nature...to our own inner self...to our neighbors and our Earth. My spirituality is innately tied to consciousness and nature.
This video honestly frightens me. I'm not a "fundamentalist" but I sure wouldn't want my government able to suppress my ability to connect to nature and god consciousness. Scary...
