i have a chow/shepherd mix too and he used to chew on everything he could get ahold of but i found a solution. He chews more than usual because thats a sign that he needs some more exercise. now he chews less and stays obedient.
my friend had a mix like yours he loved that dog i just got my gsd a bunch of chew toys and new bones the pork bones and lamb bones are too soft the cow femur is strong can buy them in grocery for cheap and boil them for a few minutes so they can eat the marrow :P

i also have a shepherd chow and he used to chew wood. i mean wooden boxes, stairs, and sticks.

She is pretty aggressive towards the other dogs, but yes, she chews on just about everything... Toilet paper, stuffed animals, shoes, blankets,
