  • It's a masterpiece.

  • I don't see why people get all up in arms when someone samples a song. It's a common practice and doesn't mean that they're ripping a song off. Tribe Called Quest used a Lou Reed sample and made a classic hip hop song.

  • true crime streets of NYC <<33 i knew this song sounded familiar! when i heard MIA's version i was like oh shitt, this brought back some memories :)

  • You Suicide fans need to calm the fuck down.

  • Hmm don't like it as much as M.I.A.'s.

  • @GreysonandMeyson Without this song, Born Free wouldn't exist. Think about it.

  • Heated argument with someone, guy says that suicide is the best punk band ever, this song is as plain as it can get and lacks grit, very boring

  • @pawevearnomah best punk right ,band wtf oxy fu8kin moron douchbag. sucide is an underated ahead of their time awesome band shut up.

  • Alan Vega's voice is one of a kind. He sounds like a snotty Roy Orbison on the verge of a constant orgasm (at least to me anyways). People always try to cover their music but Alan is the best.

  • yeah, Suicide wrote this song and deserve full credit. it was way before their time and genius. actually i like Rollins cover because he did a damned good job with it, his own spin and that is the point. but credit goes to SUICIDE.

  • i think the MIA version is better.......

    hahaha only joking kids!

it is a good mix though

  • fuck MIA in the asshole, listen to suicide, not that phony rehash artist!

  • This beat is similer to Born Free my MIA

  • @TheJASEe22

    That's because she sampled this.

  • i remember sebastiAn playing this in one of his sets back in 08 or 09, great song.

  • This song, (Suicide - Ghost Rider) is from 1977 !RETARDS!

  • @Nekrodancer That's why it says "Reissue" after 2000. Because it was reissued then.

  • Those cunts! They totally ripped off MIA. pfft cheap bastards. i mean hello? come up with your own material, christ.

  • @kissmechickenbreath Please tell me you're kidding or trolling. This came out 4 years before MIA even started.

  • @psych380 More like alsmost 40..1977, I think. : )

  • @winterstellar Woops, I looked her up on wikipedia to find out exactly when she started, and i accidentally went to the punk rock band from the 80s... i was tired, i dont know why i figured it made sense that some like 25-year old woman could have been making music in 1981.

  • @psych380 OK- I Like MIA, by the way, the way she gives old classics new life. Cheers! : )

  • @kissmechickenbreath In every MIA song SHE samples from old classics, preferably classics so old that her child fans weren't even born when they were hits.Fact!!!: (

  • @kissmechickenbreath Funniest ever post on Youtube. LOL!

  • SOUND SO MODERN!...SOUND SO PUNK!...SO AGRESSIVE!...SO SEXY!...SO COOL!...

  • i cant believe suicide ripped off kesha shes the voice of our generation why did they the suicides think that was a good idea

  • @forrrrreal your a fucking idiot the this song came out in 1977 kesha wasnt even a thought in her mothers mind at the time

  • @forrrrreal LOL

  • @forrrrreal you are an idiot

  • @forrrrreal Guys I think this dude is joking.

  • @forrrrreal LOLOLOL!

  • mi piace!ha detto erica

  • The gories did an amazing cover of this.

  • lanvin!!

  • Your guys are retarded with all this flaming. Martin Rev performed with M.I.A live on TV so it's all good and obviously she didn't ripped they off. It's called an homage.

  • bebebebebebebe he's lokkin' so cute Hahahahahahaha!

  • Ripping off my ass.

It's ignorant to think that m.i.a. ripped off Suicide, and it's also ignorant to think Suicide took this from m.i.a.

It's fucking obvious it's a sample OF SUICIDE, and to get a sample, you need to get permission and pay money. And m.i.a. DID both.

It's okay if you hate m.i.a. but at least she got the sample through a legal way, instead of just fucking stealing.

  • suicide and wire are two of the most ahead of thier time bands ever and jimi hendrix. like who the fuck would think of this shit in the 70's

  • all of you are stupid..this is the original song..and also m.i.a. didnt "rip off" this song. first of all, thats illegal..you gotta get permission to even sample shit..and im sure if she "ripped off this song" martin rev wouldnt PERFORM IT WITH HER

  • @rellmendude

    Suicide WERE the punk generation

  • @Analogilokki are you fucking retarded m.i.a. ripped off this song this is originally by suicide from 1977 i hope alan vega and martin rev go to your house and knock some sense into you

  • @FJCorboMusic she happens to be a fan and she has great fucking taste in music don't be an ignorant dick

  • @FJCorboMusic You're an asshole. Martin Rev performed the song live with M.I.A on Letterman or similar TV program. Thus, M.I.A's work is obviously not a ripp off.

  • @Analogilokki way to go. You just hit the fail button so hard you fucking broke it.

  • @Analogilokki FAIL!! This IS the original song!!

  • @Analogilokki lmao you must feel so fucking stupid.

  • @Analogilokki How does it feel to be the looser of the month? lol

Teenagers should learn some about music before they talk about it..!

  • @Analogilokki too bad MIA pays them for this song!

  • Wow, MIA didn't make a single original note in her song Born Free. It's just a sample of this same bassline over and over. LAME. It actually gets kind of annoying after a while.

  • MIA sampling Ghost Rider is truthfully not a sin in my opinion but a tribute to Suicide. I love both versions of the song. MIA in their video and lyrics also portray that rebellious style and meaning that Suicide expressed. In the end though, the best steal from the best.

  • Sorry, for some reason I thought I was commenting on "Radiation" not this track. What can I say?, Suicide have a strange affect on me!

  • Sorry to disillusion you Suicide fans but the bass line is quite blatantly stolen from the song "Money", made famous by The Beatles and Lene Lovich, unless I'm very much mistaken. Suicide are great and probably one of the main influences on all those 80's synth bands whether they were aware of it or not but the obvious truth is that absolutely no one is completely original and that includes Beethoven, Bach and Mozart, never mind Suicide!

  • bebebebebebebe he's a-screamin' the truth

america america is killin' its youth

Suicide are pioneers ~ they've been around longer than most of you have been alive ~ Alan Vega ~ Martin Rev

  • @falica77

I saw them in 1978 in the old Glasgow Apollo. Best live set I ever saw in my life, bar none. They were supporting the Clash at their peak, but Suicide were amazing.

  • FUCK MIA

  • reminds of driver parallel lines...

  • Thank you!

  • @vanthemanification More like "collaborated" than "sampled". Martin Rev from Suicide was on the keyboards for M.I.A's "Born Free". I'm fairly new to M.I.A, but I did a little checking on the web, definitely collaboration.

  • @mrjdvolk the credits in the lyrics book say quote: "Contains the SAMPLE [emphasis mine] "Ghost Rider" (Rev/Vega) by Suicide." it says nothing of Rev playing keyboards on M.I.A.'s recording. so maybe there is bad information out there on the web.

  • @OneManArmy1421 My bad. Although, there is a video on youtube with Rev playing keyboards with MIA. It's "Born Free" live on David Letterman.

  • Nihilista No-Wave!!

  • I like!!

  • only real punk

  • i was born in a third world country and was introduced to suicide before i was introduced to internet. and i am very proud to say that i was never introduced to mia.

  • Suicide is awesome.

  • Awesome track. M.I.A. version is shit, pure shit.

  • Woah, wait a second. Youtube says Suicide is "playing at Hi Ho Lounge, New Orleans. Jul 16, 2011". Can anyone confirm if that's true or not??

  • @CrazeeTori9 probably they did benicassim festival or one in spain

  • hi is alive

  • i like to play this album at midnight under a full moon

  • MIA is just a stupid bitch with idiotic fans that don't know anything regarding music.

  • Well, I feel like a dumbass now - I had no idea the Rollins Band version was a cover.

  • This is in the ps2 game "Driver Parallel Lines"

    Fucking awesome :)

  • America, America is killing its youth.... Truer words have never been spoken in music.

  • divine!!!!!

  • LET'S PROLONG FAN ELITISM LOL

Who cares where you found it. Listen to the song.

  • xD i listen this song in the game "true crime new york city" and i love it

  • @wolf87111 im here because of DRIVER: parellel lines

  • @ThatFatBoyBrett fucking great game and fucking great band.

  • Great track

  • Unbeleivable/ All the album is monstruous! Love them so much!

  • help me.

  • spot on raggedyanarchist! xxx

  • Awesome groove. Undeniable.

  • I watched the film ''finisterrae'' which was the most stupid film I 've ever watches. However, there was a single +: this song

  • alan vega is a genius no doubt about it

  • thats the inspiration for DAF - der musolini

  • All of there songs sounds as if something great is about to happy, the rush the anxiety, something is coming, something big is coming for you. All you need to do is stop and listen.

  • sounds like a brother version of BUDDY BUDDY from newzealands SNAPPER, go out and google or find it on you tube

  • I DO N'T NEED ANY DRUGS WITH THIS MUSIC.

  • @POPACHELLI they are "The Great"..

  • @Greenjerzi333 You missed out "idiotic". "Honest unbiased idiotic opinion".

  • epic

  • Almost every track I listen to by this band sounds like its all made usin a Casio Keyboard and is recorded usin a Fostex 4 track. It still sounds repetitive, as any

drum machine will unless it is programmed to have breaks ,rolls, different tempo's in the same song. So there is no way I would not stand waiting to get into a club where they were playing this attempt at music by non musicians so

have a kick at my views but that an honest unbiased opinion Yours Greenjerzi

  • @Greenjerzi333 Your opinion is irrelevant because you've completely missed the point of the band and its music. Ergo, your opinion is biased on the basis of ignorance.

  • @TokoYami200 take it easy Greenjerzi333, it is my opinion.

  • Search THE CARS "Shoo Be Doo" on youtube to hear Ric Ocasek's love for Suicide.

  • This album is genius. It certainly influenced this track by THE CARS.

    youtubeDOTcom/watch?v=9-t3tMriJps

  • In case anyone doesn't know this: Rollins Band did a cover of this and it's absolutely different and brilliant. It was on The Crow soundtrack.

  • @spookypig Henry Rollins also did a cover years before that one that was on his 1987 solo album "Hot Animal Machine". The "Hot Animal Machine" version is different in that it sounds much closer to the original. Rollins Band also recorded it in the sessions for "Hard Volume" & appeared on the 1999 remastered version as an outtake. It doesn't take a genius to see that Henry Rollins loves the song.

  • @hndsmepete wow thanks :|

  • M.I.A Brought me here... and damn, I'm glad M.I.A did this cuz now I know a great band!!!!!!

  • I WAS BORN FREE! xD

  • Man this is awesome!

  • I like this song but most of their other songs are kind of boring.

  • LOL @ MIA fans saying Suicide sampling this beat... Suicide has been around since the 70's.. and their coming from some new 00's artist? lol fuck off

  • @BasedCamu Well suicides pretty damn amazing, how do you know they didn't have a time machine?

    Yeah, think about it.

  • I really like the beginning of this song.

  • YEAHH

  • suicide's music runs through the arteries of rock and roll

  • Great Song!! And Great Album!!

  • Great Song!!

  • that's a keyboard right? 'cause i don't think the people of the past had the kind of technology we have now a days to make a guitar sound like that

  • @Oesktchohova

errr have you ever heard of listened to jimi hendrix.................if not i suggest you do

  • @Oesktchohova

or pink floyd.. just to name 2

  • @gdawg1965 any songs in specific? (i'm too lazy to search)

  • @Oesktchohova ...you are shitting me aint you ..if you knbow anything about music you would of heard of hendrix & pink floyd..just search anything realating to them & you will hear music that was way ahead of its time & sounds made with a guitar that some struggle to replkicate with all todays technology.....try watching these pink floyd live in pompeii or any of there performances or jimi hendrix at isle of white festival, woodstock or monteal here endeth the lesson ,go get educated haha

  • @gdawg1965 You meant "would have," not "would of." There is no such thing as "would of." Please write that down and post it on your computer monitor, also tell all your friends! Thanks!

  • @justiceleague3000 WTF .... are you a teacher or something you got to be taking the piss & not have anything better to do than trawl you tube correcting people on their grammer,i`l write how i like & what i like i aint at fucking school now ,thats how we talk where i come from so deal with it .if you dont like it dont read it moosh.....by the way tell your friends i said your a MINGE lol...now jog on fella & get a life

  • @Oesktchohova ...you are shitting me aint you ..if you know anything about music you would of heard of hendrix & pink floyd..just search anything realating to them & you will hear music that was way ahead of its time & sounds made with a guitar that some struggle to replicate with all todays technology.....try watching pink floyd live in pompeii or any of there performances or jimi hendrix at isle of white festival, woodstock or monteal here endeth the lesson ,go get educated haha

  • @gdawg1965 well i've heard of them... just don't listen to them :D

  • The only way I know this song is from yeah playing True Crime NYC :)

  • @Jennyluvsthe90s I love that game :) But my copy broke not long ago :(

  • I doubt very much most people who listen to MIA know it was ripped off or sampled or whatever. And with the loss of liner notes on CDs this is even more the case. Too be fair though I still a bit shocked to discover all the covers The Clash did. But in the end it just leads me to new musical discoveries.

  • @pjdance ain't that the truth. i was quite excited when i heard MIA using the sample, but bummed when I get the rest of her latest release. at first i was like :D and then i was like :|

  • Like.

  • Do you know which band that exists these days who unabashedly cops this bands vibe almost completely ? Huh!? Do ya know huh!?

  • @Teabonesteak of course, both lcd soundsystem and simian mobile disco make no secret of their influence

james murphy mentions them right from the outset in "losing my edge"

  • @belisariusorb Answer: MGMT.

  • @Teabonesteak Honestly, I don't know them. Any good?

  • @Teabonesteak goldfrapp

  • To all the MIA haters, deal with it, the lead singer of Suicide came ON STAGE WITH HER AND PERFORMED IT WITH HER. SO STFU AND I BET MY LIFE THAT THE CLASH ARE FUCKING LOVING PAPER PLANES IN HEAVEN.

  • @LibertineLover07 Just FYI not all of The Clash are dead.

  • @LibertineLover07 fortunately and unfortunately only the great Joe Strummer is dead

  • BORN FREE

  • This track is at the Museum of modern art NYC

  • It's so annoying when someone samples or covers a song of an artist and the fans get bitchy like the song is sacred or something, STFU!

And half the time the artist co-signs or doesn't give a damn.

  • @snesspazkid But it would be so nice if people came up with their own shit instead of sampling everything.

  • @MrMartin667 Nothings original. Suicide "sampled" the chord progressions, the instruments, words, letters, rhythm. It's not about who did what. M.I.A. always manages to take her inspirations and make it her own. Suicide did it too, don't be a snob because they're an old band.

  • @snesspazkid i wish fans of mia would stop coming to suicide videos and talking shit. tell me, exactly who did suicide saample this from? sources or didn't happen bub.

  • @snesspazkid

Im all for sampling, but theres a difference between making a sample your own and just taking the bassline in its entirety, changing nothing about it at all, and adding other instruments over it. Its just like Vanilla Ice.

  • i remember it from true crime new york city as well i always put tht song on lol

  • M.I.A. saved this sample.

  • @666meagain She's such a legend/genuis/icon ect

  • @LibertineLover07 I know, /\/\ /\ Y /\ is definitely best album of 2010.

  • Protopunk... Cool.

  • Oh man, I love Suicide. I figure if Silver Apples and The Stooges had a baby, they'd sound a bit like this. ;)

  • @raggedyanarchist ah, you missed a gene there. the "gene" vincent =P

  • @raggedyanarchist

:) i like your comment! but who silver apples? i'll have a look! :)

  • @raggedyanarchist I sure never could get into the Silver Apples. I was high the last time I listened to them, and imagined a dastardly villain, who tortured hippies by giving them acid and playing Silver Apples on loop. It was horrible.

  • @Polyfusia Hahaha... yeah, I guess I can see how that could turn you against them.

  • @raggedyanarchist Kraftwerk + Johnny Cash too.

  • Comment removed

  • mia did well with the sample

    why would Suicide sue her?

  • FUCK M.I.A. DID A FUCKING GREAT JOB WITH THIS SAMPLER!

  • this fucking rules.

  • makes me dream of sitting in a ´67 mustang gt390 chased by 50 police cars through the dried L.A.-river concrete bed

  • This song appears in True crime nyc ;)

  • ..Goddamnit M.I.A,do you have to ruin beautiful songs?

  • @EliiteAssassin MIA doesn't ruin songs, real people don't care about his ass...

  • @pat976 M.I.A. is a girl.

  • @jessizz2e well guess what ? I'm proud of not knowing what gender or species that piece of crap "artist" is... it's a shame stuff like that gets a recording contract in the first place... wailing out of tune on somebody else's record does not qualify as talent in my book. Suicide rules, if you try and sample them, do something badass, not lame ...

  • @pat976 if anything MIA's cover will attract more attention to Suicide than previously, you just don't want to share your elitist taste with anyone

  • @iceguy0077 honestly, how many people will know it's a Suicide song ??? Let's be real... it has nothing to do with being elitist. I must've missed the part when they give credit to Suicide, obviously...

  • @pat976 But she actually did pay to use it, all physical copies of the song and album give credit to Suicide and list this song =]

  • @MonsieurRondu well, lawyers, what can I say ?
