I saw him at the Elliott Hall of Music at Purdue University, fall of 1977 (thank you Cheryl, wherever you are!). It was my introduction to Dan's music, and this song will always be a reminder of one of my last moments of innocence. What happened a few weeks later would change me forever. This song can transport me back to a time when life was simple, pain was merely a concept and hope was a bright and shining promise. Rest in peace, Dan.
@kssocref Cherly is an angel : ) I LOVE DAN TOO! to me, he is the best singer songwriter of all time
no one can ever replace this beautiful soul; so humble and yet elegant and so heartfelt--a great mixture of beautiful qualities pefected and yet he was so humble
arguably the greatest ballad ever written along with THE LAST RESORT by THE EAGLES. haunting melody and the angelic voice of DAN FOGELBERG are to this day as beautiful and moving as they were over 25 years ago. REST IN ETERNAL PEACE DAN. the power of your music will never be forgotten.
A big thank you to Tom Hampton for organizing the tribute at Sellersville Theatre in Sellersville,PA.You guys were awesome!I felt Dan was there looking down upon all of us and smiling.A emotional evening for everyone, but we had our fun moments too.Dan would of wanted some humor,I read he loved to laugh.Jim Photoglo's performance of the night was the most emotional. He had to walk away from the mike. That moment broke my heart. We sang Happy Birthday and of course Gambler at the end. Great Evening.
I want to add my thank yous to everyone involved in the tribute in Sellersville! What a memorable night! I brought the tissues! I was determined not to cry, but of course, that didn't work! Jim Photoglo's emotions did me in! But it was wonderful! Even the detour!
I believe you saw most of Bucks county on Wednesday night! LOL!!We need to send a big thank you to the bartender at the restaurant that helped you/us. Thank god, he was willing to do that and my cell phone was charged! Just a little drama for the evening! When in the Philly area, pack a GPS.
No thank you to the Hatfield, Pa cop who was so nasty! To serve and protect? HA! At least it was a nice neighborhood I got detoured thru! Damn fire! LOL!
Thank you very much Pre10der. I'm young and never got to see him. I'm very greatful for people like you, and also youtube for making it possible for the world to see and hear such an amazing artist. His talant was unlimited, and thanks to people like you I can appricate all of it, because as we all know this is not sold in stores. So again thank you very much for sharing.
Sunday August 10th, re-broadcast of a 70's concert of Dan's at Ebbett's Field.KCUV-FM Denver,8pm Mountain Time. KCUV has a website, that I believe you will be able to listen to it through. I hope I can download the concert. How cool would that be?
Wow, thanks so much once again to Pre10der for this vid. So many thoughts on this number, besides the awe of Dan's performance of course. I thought the piano arrangement in the bridge was different but still wonderful from what is usually heard in Gambler, kudos to the keyboardist. And I will always love Dan for the way he always acknowledged his backup bands and their work, even in talkshow clips he does this. He was a real musicians musician, and a pure music man. Let it shine friends.
I was cruising around the tube answering some comments and the thought that pop into my head was how eloquent Dan was with his band. He made sure that they were acknowledge for the fine musicians that they were as giving them the spotlight. I stopped by here and OMG, there was your comment on my feeling! We must be sharing the same DanFan brain! LOL!! Kudo's to Mike Hanna on the piano. He is a awesome pianist.I love watching him perform with Dan, you can tell he is just loving it!
Every Fogelberg concert I went to that ended with Gambler, I cried through at least the last verse & chorus. Looking around at the audience, hundreds or thousands of people, lighters aloft were swaying, singing in harmony. Tears streaming down nearly every face, men and women alike, smiling with cathartic joy. It was always awesome, powerfully moving, and you walked out of the venue lifted, somehow transformed, if even for just a little while. God, I do miss him still.
How I love this song! Thank you, pre10der, for this posting. This song always makes me cry! And anyone in the Pennsylvania area, if you can make it to Sellersville, it will be a great way to honor Dan and support the PCF in the bargain!
This song became more melancholy for me after his passing. It's a bittersweet moment to watch. Dan you took the gamble of doing it your way, and it paid off. Thanks for staying true to yourself and the music.
Thanks for the postings and helping with the healing of many heavy hearts.
Just a reminder of the Sellersville,PA tribute concert on August 13th.Living Legacy and the Sellersville Theatre websites has the information. Help celebrate Dan's life, on what would been his 57th birthday
Thanks Dan for this most beautiful song I have ever known!
Rest in peace, buddy!

I haven't cried about Dan like this video made me for a while....especially at the end.
Thanks for posting. As I said before this concert is the best of Dan, such great memories, a treasure to have this. The best way to remember Dan.
Have you posted the entire concert now? Do you know the order of the songs?
Thanks for sharing all your videos.
