Every keeps going on as if he is a complete failiure just because he's not turned out to be the next pele. He's still only 22 and has 17 caps for his country, he's got plenty of time to still become a top player in european football.
Im shocked. This is amazing. Prodigy. I thought he messed up his career, he failed iin Portugal, Belenensen, lil greek and turkish clubs and he went back home. But this clip show he is an enormous talent, he just has to put it together. How is he doing now in Philly?
remember when americans especially espn labeled him "the next pele" ridiculous...pure marketing, any mexican of the u17 is better than this crappy player
@verdirame86 should've watched him during the gold cup, the dude is a beast nowadays...his career went down the drain at one point due to complacency and arrogance due to the hype, but watching him at philly and at the gold cup, he has done outstanding
People who actually rate this kid are forgetting how poor the american league is. I am 15 from England and I have mates who i believe could skin these dreadful defenders. It's embarrassing.
in other countries, fans back their players, even through bad spells. but not here, in america, we obviously expect everything to be perfect so we insult and hate on our own players regardless of the circumstances.
freddy your mom fucked everything up all you had to do was accept that contract at inter milan and you would have been by far the best american to ever play but you declined it and got under the control of dumb ass american coaches and now you suck, but i think your time at befica will help you become a really good player but you could of been that really good player now if you accepted that contract
@SKYLAROFFICIALTV even lower?! Benfica-->Monaco--->Belenenses--->Arus--->some second division turkish team? Always downhill... How far down do you think he should go?
many people says he is over quite but he is just 22 i think he should switch club fast he has wasting playing for Benfica just sitting on the bench and being in other clubs . I saw the final in Gold Cup and Freddy Adu was the best in the United States
...was he that good at age 14 to play in the mls and be the highest paid player...at 14 with a 1mil contract with nike. at 14 damn lol i saw him play in the gold cup against panama i went crazy i was like DAD LOOK THEY FOUND HIM
@aTadLad obviously not. freddy was an excellent player at a young age and people had every reason to believe he could perform at the highest level. They took him as a kid and threw him (literally) into a mens game. He was quickly put into his place and shoveled to the back of every roster and dissapeared. What would of happened if a team like manchester united developed him for 5 years? we were talking about this guy in 2004 and he is STILL only 22
some people say he's 8yrs old some say 14yr old. so he must be like drinking from the fountain of youth for the past 1000yrs, either way he is shit and playing for nobody.
He connected to Landon Donovan with a really great cross and Landon assisted to Dempsey for the Gold Cup semifinal so that has to count for something. Sure it's only one play, but you can tell a lot has changed, if not athletically then mentally.
In fact, Ghana is notorious for the falsification of age. Many of their players have known to cheat their age in order to get good contracts in Europe. Who knows if Freddy was really 17 or 18 (and not 14) when they discovered him years ago. This would explain why he's never improved and looks old and washed up while warming the bench in 2cnd division turkey
freddy is much older. he lied about his real age, just like most African soccer players do. Most are poor and are willing to lie to get a new life abroad. Freddy is probably 25 years old right now. Sorry but he's a big flop---even Bradley agrees
@vivio19861986 at least you spelled DEMPSEY right you fool. soccer in the USA is not a bluff. what about donovan? hes great. and yes soccer has not been very successful for the US yet but it will be. just remember that soccer is the #7 sport in the US and everywhere else in the world its #1. that tells you with the USA barely putting any of its youngster into soccer we are still #22 in the world. thats pretty damn good if you ask me.
I do not have very good English .. what I meant is that adu seemed strong in the U.S. but in Europe has proved a big flop.
the U.S. has a huge potential given the great scholastic sports organization.
but before you get to European levels have still a long road here in Italy the children start playing soccer at age 4, your football is mostly practiced by women.
@vivio19861986 i started soccer at 4 over here in the US but I fell in love with basketball before I fell in love with soccer...thanks to Michael Jordan and Space Jam lols. BTW I get more enjoyment out of scoring a goal in soccer than anything I've ever done in basketball which includes buzzer beaters. The popularity of sports is culturally based and our country is starting to fall in love with the game.
@Gerrardisatiger I doubt he's bad, considering inter milan offered him a 6 figure contract when he was 10 years old, we are talking Inter Milan here, haters gonna hate, then again some of the defending was bad I agree, but he could also be considered to be making them look bad, so its just your mentality.
@ADAJ3 not hating, just bringing people back to reality, the fact that there is about 5 goals on this and one of them took a huge deflection and all others apart from one should of been saved. Everything else is him running away and playing a simple pass, which most proffesional footballers should be able to do with ease. And the fact he is apparently 14 in this video shows how poor the MLS is that they resort to 14 year olds for their first team squad when they have no experience. Unbelievable.
Freddie Adu is sitting ont he bench in some 2nd league in Europe. That says all about how overrated he was.
A player that is average on European level will be promoted as a Superstar in USA.
Adu did recieve good offers when he was around 16 years old, perhaps if he would have accepted back then he would be a decent player now. You are only as good as your oponents are.
honestly, he's only 21... give him time. he needs to come to the mls to build up his sharpness before being shipped off to a real club. clint dempsey and landon both came out of the mls. clint is no flop at fulham and donovan was really good at everton.
sTUpid benfica keep putting him in shitty loans.. Cmon .. He is a good play he just need more exposure and better teams.. I still believe in him even though the American dream got into his head .. dumbass .. if you had played for Ghana you would be playing in the EPL now. He played only 11 games for benfica and they put him on loan and that is the history with him now..I pray one day he gets another chance..
Adu wasnt a better or bader player than Neymar or Agudelo is today! So I am a littel bit sceptic to these players! I dont think that have the mentalaty to play against physical teams like Stoke,Wigan and Bolton away on a could winter day!
Say what you want, this is incredible for a 14, 15 and 16 year old... Shame he couldn't develop his talent further... He's only 21 now, if he could return to the MLS or some other weaker league where he could play, he could become a decent squad player for the US national team... Nothing close to this, I'm afraid :(
Could also be some highlights of a regular player in the second Spanish division. But this is what Americans think is "AWESOMEE AMAAAAZING OH MY GOD" soccer.
Freddy adu never should have came to america. If he went to england, spain, france, or germany he would have been the next pele. But because he was playing regular first team for the mls at the age of 16... well you have seen what happened.
hahahahahahaa, is this a fucking joke? ....he sucks dick, every single "deke" or "goal" he had, was deflected by the shitty defenders of the other team, pure fucking luck.
the way i see it, fredie is a very skillful player, he just doesn't have the mature leader ship skill to be a complete player that's all. The were time I can see that even the coach doesn't give him enough playing time
Adu is not a reflection of American Soccer. LANDON DONOVAN, MICHAEL BRADLEY, JOZY ALTIDORE, TIM HOWARD, CARLOS BOCANEGRA. These are the players that reflect American Soccer. Modest, hardworking footballers that can play at a high level ANYWHERE and do (each player is currently playing outside of the US with the exception of Donovan, but he just came back from a loan to Everton)
Overated? Dumbasses. Of course the media as well as the world of soccer would exaggerate: it gets more viewers and followers, but there is no need to hate on him. Yes he is a PRODIGY. And all of the 1.2 million viewers probably couldn`t do shit compared to him. You can hate on him when you get a 750,000$ contract at the age of 10. He is a PRODIGY. Ok, maybe not a LEGEND but a star none of the less. Support someone like him. Who knows, MAYBE he WILL leave a mark on the world of soccer.
I think the problem is he came to the US and experienced too much too soon. The US academy system can't hold a candle to the European systems. He would have been better off going straight to England to play for a League 1 club or Championship club's academy. He just wasn't groomed properly. If he was under Arsene Wenger's wing, for example, he may have reached his full potential.
@ebonumba12 out of all the Adu comments, which are thoughtless-you're comment my friend explains why he did not succeed. Not that he was not talented, obviously hes was talented enough to play with grown man-but he was not developed properly, unfortunately Adu fell into the media marketing BS
@lm1204 I totally agree with you. Adu was not developed properly and all the marketing hype did him more harm than good. He was a good player but needed to stay focused and the MLS didn´t allow him to mature properly.
If Adu would have grown on a youth system like "la masia" from FCBarcelona, with other education and only centred in improve his football and not in make a name in history and make him famous, probably now with his 21 years would be one of the best players in the world.
Of course he's not going to look as flashy or good in Europe as he does in the MLS... the MLS is small time compared to Europe. It's like throwing Pacquiao against a star 16 year old golden glove... it's just not the same level.
what fuck stuped video! any gay here in Brazil 10 yyears old play like this Freddy... are you painng my face... dont fuck me please. Salve o Tricolor Paulista SP
He needs to come play for a MLS that way Bob Bradley can call him up, cuz we all know Bob calls up every american in mls even if the suck ( robbie Findley). and we know that freddy wont suck in MlS and once he gets on the national team again, he's gonna be a regular starter. we saw what he did against spain and argentina.
@Picobeat Ingolstadt, in Germany. (he's on trial)
He needs to come back to MLS. He may not be a full-time starter with an MLS team. But, if he can just find an MLS team to latch on to with the right system, he can still be a good role player. He won't be under as much pressure here
He left for Europe too early before he could truly hone his skills. It's definitely hurt him, I think. I hate when people write him off as a bust, though. He's no messi or even Donovan, but he still has talent.
The american attitude towards sporting events is always the stupid provocative one on one contest, anger in veins, and always trying to humiliate the one against you. Such a shame, everytime someone dunks on another guy, what the fuck do you need to face and challenge for?.... aweful attitude
The american attitude towards sporting events is always the stupid provocative one on one contest, anger in veins, and always trying to humiliate the one against you. Such a shame, everytime someone dunks on another guy, what the fuck do you need to face and challenge.... bad attitude
Everybody in europe new what was going to happen to this poor lad when he came in Europe, you Americans are so arrogant and disrespectful to the rest of the world that the thing you are prowdest of is hitting against pads of hockey and bullshit football players. Try playing sports without pads, acting like no jungle gorillas and expressing human intelligence and ability in sports. Basketball is the only sport that deserves much respect.
if addu did not have all the fucking media comparing to pele or a phenomenon he probably would have developed better here at the us and by his twenties he'd be all right...... always the dumb ass media.
he is at benfica i think and is in there reserves so ggod luck being the next big thing

Freddy "the next Pele" Adu has recently joined the monumentally challenging Turkish second division.

Hahah i am a fan of him but please the level of the MLS is nothing compared with the European or the Southern American level of football
IndoKurd 10 months ago
idk why people are hating on him so hard if its so easy to be great in the MLS then you take your dumbasses there and be a star
daymartime1 11 months ago
hahahahahahaa, is this a fucking joke? ....he sucks dick, every single "deke" or "goal" he had, was deflected by the shitty defenders of the other team, pure fucking luck.

noob defenders in the MLS.

Fuckin shit... That was some horrible defending. LOL. No wonder Adu looks good in the MLS but is crap in Europe...

the way i see it, fredie is a very skillful player, he just doesn't have the mature leader ship skill to be a complete player that's all. The were time I can see that even the coach doesn't give him enough playing time
jomivang12 11 months ago
Adu is not a reflection of American Soccer. LANDON DONOVAN, MICHAEL BRADLEY, JOZY ALTIDORE, TIM HOWARD, CARLOS BOCANEGRA. These are the players that reflect American Soccer. Modest, hardworking footballers that can play at a high level ANYWHERE and do (each player is currently playing outside of the US with the exception of Donovan, but he just came back from a loan to Everton)
Chudsic 11 months ago
Overated?

If he was under Arsene Wenger's wing, for example, he may have reached his full potential.
ebonumba12 1 year ago 2
@ebonumba12 out of all the Adu comments, which are thoughtless-you're comment my friend explains why he did not succeed. Not that he was not talented, obviously hes was talented enough to play with grown man-but he was not developed properly, unfortunately Adu fell into the media marketing BS
lm1204 9 months ago
@lm1204 I totally agree with you. Adu was not developed properly and all the marketing hype did him more harm than good. He was a good player but needed to stay focused and the MLS didn´t allow him to mature properly.
Rockyisback2009 9 months ago
If Adu would have grown on a youth system like "la masia" from FCBarcelona, with other education and only centred in improve his football and not in make a name in history and make him famous, probably now with his 21 years would be one of the best players in the world.

Of course he's not going to look as flashy or good in Europe as he does in the MLS... the MLS is small time compared to Europe. It's like throwing Pacquiao against a star 16 year old golden glove... it's just not the same level.

Picobeat 1 year ago
@Picobeat Ingolstadt, in Germany. (he's on trial)
He needs to come back to MLS. He may not be a full-time starter with an MLS team. But, if he can just find an MLS team to latch on to with the right system, he can still be a good role player. He won't be under as much pressure here
He left for Europe too early before he could truly hone his skills. It's definitely hurt him, I think. I hate when people write him off as a bust, though. He's no messi or even Donovan, but he still has talent.
garnetandblackattack 1 year ago
He supposed to be next Pele, now look at him he is just overrated and overhyped and even got rejected by Sion. And he's real age is 32.

The american attitude towards sporting events is always the stupid provocative one on one contest, anger in veins, and always trying to humiliate the one against you. Such a shame, everytime someone dunks on another guy, what the fuck do you need to face and challenge for?.... aweful attitude
