Good looking car but come on man you're making all us other m3 owners look bad. put it in s6 mode and lift off the gas for the shift, plus there's shift lights on the tach..And for all you "manual only" twats you've never driven an smg so shut your mouth its not just flicking the paddles in this car. It's a manual transmission with a computer controlled/hydraulically actuated clutch NOT AN AUTO. I love manuals but this was the first F1 styled transmission in an everyday driver give it a break..

Would you say learn how to drive stick if it were a Ferrari 458 Italia? Of course not! The shifts do seem a bit sluggish though. He either A, left the car in s3 or s4 shift mode, or B, the smg clutch's point of engagement is way off and needs a reset. SMG is not an automatic! HPF is just starting to be able to service these transmissions and the smg and manual are the same!

yeah... if anything paddle shift makes the car slower. just gunning it all the way without doing anything else is the best way. some cars you can pop it in the manual gate and it might give a tad more speed (gear change or acceleration) but i might be wrong.

Newer sports cars (well, Ferrari has been doing it for a while now) use semi-automatic transmissions which offer the ability to shift when you want without actually engaging the clutch manually. Instead it utilizes paddles usually mounted behind the steering wheel in order to change gears at the blink of an eye. The paddle on the right is to go up & the left one is to go down. You benefit from the ease of an automatic, the control of a manual, & the quick changes of Michael Schucmacher, lol.

You'd have to completely switch out your transmission, a lot of the electronics, add custom paddles, etc. It's too much work & money, it's not worth it unless you have a very expensive race car like a GT3RSR or something like that which is irreplacable. Otherwise, just sell your car & get something that already has "paddle shifters." Everyone has a different name for it, SMG for BMW M cars, Tiptronic for Porsche, F1 for Ferrari, E-Gear for Lambo, Speedshift for Benz AMG cars, etc.

Turn up the ferocity of the shifts all the way up, turn of traction control, an extra setting will come up on the SMG screen on the dash board, push the ferocity button over one more and you will be in launch control mode....go have fun, don't listen to these guy's ripping on you, smg shifting is hard to get use to especially coming from a true manual...you'll get it down over time. and don't do the launch control too much you'll burn out your clutch really quickly

To take advantage of this car (to create power) - you MUST take the engine to redline. Shifting at 6500 RPM makes you look like a terrible driver w/o any knowledge of an m3/s54.

+1 the power is linear ALL the way to 7900-8000 RPM, so to extract is all, you have to go there. I take care of my car, though and drive it like a grandma :P 78k trouble-free miles.

It's not very good around town (due to the fact that you have to really wind it out to get going, and by the time you do that, youre at the next lige) -- but on the freeway, cruising in 6th at 80....drop it into 3rd, 4th....5th...and before you know it you're at 140+. so much fun.

Ok look I'm going recommend you do some advanced driver training for racing. You need to work your gear changes out and cornering techniques. That is a brilliant car and I would love it if you could get the most out of it. Trust me you're only using maybe 60% of its capabilities.
