Hairspray is my favorite Broadway shows. I love Harvey Harvey Fierstein as Edna Turnblad and he's one of my favorite actors in the world, but he can't sing at all. Even the actress who plays Tracy Turnblad (Marissa Jaret Winokur) can't sing, but she's an excellent actress. The only ones who can sing are Matthew Morrison (who plays Link Larkin, and also on the tv show "Glee"), Mary Bond Davis (who plays Motormouth Maybelle) and Kerry Butler (who plays Penny Pingleton).

To all of you People who are putting this down? This is the original broadway cast of Hairspray from the 2003 Tony Awards. The show won 8 Tonys including best Musical. They joined Phantom, Cats, Les Miz, and many others who won this HIgh Honor.. Mathew Morrison did play Link in this show and the mother if you couldnt tell was Harvey Firestein. That is the way his voice sounds ( he played the gay brother in Mrs Doubtfire). Have an appreciation for all music or keep your comments to yourself.

Give Tracy a break. It's REALLY hard to sing while running around and dancing, so keep in mind that she also had to keep her breath while singing. It's a lot harder than singing on a stool in a studio and then afterwards going to lip sync it while dancing.

I think what people forget is that this is a Tony performance. It is an extra performance during the week for the main cast, which is tough for them to do, because doing 8 shows a week is hard enough on their voices, add another, you try it. This is a hard to song to sing anyway, because of the pace and dancing, its hard to catch your breath
