you are not alone my friend, i'm suffering from bell's palsy since I was a kid so I know how it feel. i would like to know more people who has similar problem like myself, feel free to sign my facebook , find me terryww is my facebook name.
No one thought it was funny when I got it. I come from a superficial city so everyone is like OH NO! Lol. I'm glad no one laughed because I spent enough time crying...although that at least lubricated my eye hehe. I'm at 4 months and the eyes don't blink together and now one shrinks when I smile...is the mixed signal thing something that will go away?

got this shit on monday its now thursday, i got treatment called bowen therapy the day after i got and whilst recieving the treatment i was able then to hold down my eye and leave it closed as to where it used to just lift up again, so yeah hopefully this info is useful to someone out there!!!
i had bells palsy 2 years ago it has cleared up as best it can althought there is still a little part of my face paralised. To the people who have it keep trying to move your face even when it seems its not possible, excercising your face muscles help at cuts the recovery time. I hope this helps
My worry is that I don't see any sort of STEROID in the doctor's prescription. I'm afraid my friend might be getting a neglectful prescription.
From what I've read in the posts made by the wonderful Youtube community, when it comes to treating Bell's palsy time is of the essence, so I urgently need to know if there would be any danger in using steroids along with Tegretol?
P.S. My friend does not have Trigeminal Neuralgia, of that I am very sure.
As I said before, it really is up to the doctor, and they have no real proof that any treatment will work, steroids may have worked for me or it may have gone away by itself without them, it's really impossible to tell. I really wouldn't accuse your doctor of negligence, it really is common so he's probably seen and treated it several times. I wish your friend a lot of luck and hope it clears up soon!
My friend was soon sent to a clinic where he had various sorts of scans, MRI, urine/blood tests, etc. Finally, the doctor sent him home and prescribed him with Tegretol ONLY.
Tegretol turns out to be an anticonvulsant, which works by decreasing nerve impulses that cause seizures and pain. So if I understand correctly Tegretol is a sort of analgesic meant to treat nerve pain. Continue...
My best friend has got Bell's palsy 5 days ago on 25 September 2008.
I'm not sure what the precise cause of his palsy was, but I suspect that as he was having a panic attack (under a huge stress and tiredness) one of the arteries that runs through the brain near the cerebellum got swollen and touched/rubbed/pressed on the 7th Cranial nerve. I'm not sure if the artery also touched or pressed on the Trigeminal nerve but I think not. That was the scenario 5 days ago. Continue...
i'm so glad i found some bells palsy vids on here - I was starting to feel really really down about it. I got it on September the 11th, had some minor ear achey ness behind my right ear and headaches, just brushed it off, on the Sunday 14th it was full blown.. Going to the docs Tommorow to have a progress check up! *thumbsup*
hehe! i had it too about 3 years ago, lasted approx 8 months. i had no taste in the left half of my tongue for the first 2 weeks...weird lol good vid!
thanks for your respons. I was of to the doctors all day today, taking various tests. But they ended up concluding that it was Bells palsy as they(and I) thought. They gave me predinsone(cortisole) pills to eat. I met with a specialist and he had just finished a study that conluded that it betters the chances of improving. So to anyone out there who don't have the luxury of having a specialist nearby ask for cortisole pills.
Yeah people do tend to think it's pretty funny, I think you have to play along with it to stay even mildly sane with it! I would definitely go to the doctor, I know steroids appeared to aid my recovery and they can also set you up with a machine to shock muscles in your face to re-invigorate them. Although it is often unsure what treatment to use, some treatment was better than none in my case. Hope that helps, and hope it clears up soon
It's one of medicine's great mysteries! My doctor said it could be caused by extreme cold and I had spent a day working in a freezer the day before it really kicked in so I think that can be a big factor, it's just speculation though.
I've got Bell's palsey 2 years ago, and I read a lot about this phenomenon. The palsey is caused by a virus (the zona virus... a kind of herpes). But why do people get the virus? Probably it's in the air.. But it stills pretty rare.
It CAN be caused by the herpes virus, however, it can also be caused by the shingles virus, HIV, a blow to the head, extreme cold, draft, there's loads of possibilities. As bellspalsey said, its more or less a medical mystery.
my mother got is last year, on valentines day. she still hasn't fully healed. but she can now close both eyes and she can also smile now... my aunt also had it. she was lucky though. it only took a week for her to heal.
i actually got it at 18 and now im 23. my eye wouldnt close and my mouth was to the side. a few sessions of acupunture helped, i didnt follow treatment all the way. so 5 years later i still have it.i hate it! but im used to it.
Major headache the nite B4. Lt side from top forehead to chin frozen. Still have residual to mouth and my eye is weak when very tired. Excercise in front of a mirror. Talk out the alphabet slowly & work esp on vowels, really enunciate. Do things like frown, smile, smerk, raise eyebrows. 4 m later I got about 85% back. See a neurologist immed at the hosp and get prednisone. It reduces the inflamation in the 7th cranial nerve. U can email me.
The exercise I'm doing are actually the exercises. I also got a nerve stimulating machine. Good luck with it, and don't panic about it, I know how scary it can be at the time.
My husband was just diagnosed with this disorder and the dr said that it may take up to 9 months to completly fade away. how long have you had it? do you eventually get used to it?
I actually don't have it anymore, it faded away for me luckily after 6 weeks or so. It can definitely take a lot of time to get used to and can be quite distressing, so hopefully it fades away for your husband soon.
you are smart bro...... eish u recover fully ... i didnt :'(
