I was a child when this movie was shown on TV in germany. Oh how I was scared when I realised how killed those people :) Very good movie! I hope for a remake some day. Cutting this 70th atmosphere and adapting it more to your time. Would be (also is) a great movie.
Holy Smoke, I've been looking for this movie for eons! Thanks for sharing! One of the best TV movies ever made. Very reminiscent of THE OUTER LIMITS, down to Robert Culp's presence. I think that's Vic Perrin, The Control Voice, doing the pre-credit narrative, too. Great stuff!!!
I remember watching this as a kid. I was around 7. I stayed up and watched it by myself under a blanket on the couch. Scared the shit out of me, but I had been accustomed to watching those Vincent Price movies of Poe stories by Roger Corman. This is a classic to me. Thanks for posting.
Good God I remember this.... I have "Don't Be Afraid of The Dark" from Warner Archives... Both these movies were nightmare fuel when I was a tweener. Maybe if we petition Warner Archives they may make a limited pressing.
This is a classic.I saw it as a kid and havent seen it for many years.Glad its here so I can see it again.Good storyline and the music adds to the creepiness. But the chimp's death made me sad. I could never understand why one guy didnt believe the other when he finally figured out what was going on.Seems he was paranoid.
Me and a buddy were talking about these old movies. How come they're so good yet made for TV, and why didn't they go to theatre? Smaller budgets? Film projects? Midnight filler?
Thanks for posting this I havent seen it since it came on TV 37yrs ago and forgot the name of until I looked up Eli wallach at IMDB, the chimps particually at the end always gave me the creeps and gave me a few nightmares as a kid,Thanks againthink i will watch it twice reminds me of the plot of THE THING
Leonard South was my best friend's father. He was a extremely talented man. He was Alfred Hitchcock's right hand man when it came to camera men. Even though he isn't credited in all of them, he worked on nearly every Hitchcock movie. Brilliant man!!!
Awesome! Many thanks for posting. I saw this as a kid back in the '70s and have always clearly remembered a number of the scenes. I never could remember what it was called or where I could even think of finding it. Isn't the Internet wonderful!
Wow! I've checked many times to see if anyone had uploaded this movie and here it is finally!!
Thanks so much. I was just a young lad when this was on tv, had never seen it since the year it first aired, but I've never forgotten how eerie it was...that final scene... Apparently there is a rare VHS version of this film but it never went to DVD...Thanks again for putting this classic up!
One of the best TV movies ever made. I desperately want to get this on DVD but it will probably never happen. I taped it off TV years ago on VHS. Thanks for posting this.
@monster4josh I thought the movie ''THE THING (1982)''' is unique but its clear to me now its based on on this amazing movie as ''' FRIDAY 13th (1980 )'' is based on ''' The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) '' and '' HALLOWEEN ( 1978 ) '' is based on '' Black Christmas (1974) .
This movie is old tech and low budget but its very enjoyable and timeless so thanx for upload it and thanx alot for your amazing collection , have a nice weekend and good luck
@RealPinkDreams the thing was based upon a short story called who goes there?, as was the thing from another world. friday the 13th is a rip-off on halloween. the makers of fri. even said so. without halloween, fri. would never existed.
Yes, it was the final scene that stayed with me all these years. It was during that idiot remake of Planet of the Apes that I decided to find this movie. It has taken me eight years to find it.
This movie was awesome! As a kid that final scene stayed with me. I agree this movie gave the remake of John Carpenters "The Thing" a lot to work with. As a kid I also thought that Robert Culp was cool.
After watching part of this movie, it seems like "The Thing" 1980's remake ripped off a considerable amount of this film. Even some Thing sets look like they were the same ones seen in this movie.
I remember seeing this on TV when it was new & I was 10. The final shot stayed with me all these years! They really DON'T make them like this anymore. Thanks so much for uploading.
Hell, this was a great film.. I saw it years ago too when i was only just old enough to appreciate it. I remember it ever since and wondered if it would ever be shown again and why the hell has it not been?
Thank you, thank you for posting this! I have not seen this film since I was a kid living in Lynwood, and the quiet atmosphere of growing isolation and dread stayed with me, including the film's last chilling image. Great job!
Geez, it's been years & years since I last saw this. Now as I once again hear this opening music score, it all comes rushing back to me. And the scientist raving to a dead radio mic, so chilling! (No pun intended, really.) I heard that this was released theatrically in Europe under the alternate title, "Chill Factor". Anyway, I think it's a wonderful film, a fine cast, well deserving of the showcase you're very thoughtfully providing for it. Love your channel, loads of really outstanding clips.
Have heard nothing but good things regarding this low-budget made for television film...cant wait to see the rest. Thanks for this upload...much appreciated.
r.i.p. Robert Culp...Great actor.

@AlanSessler This movie is the original story and the basic idea of that movie '' THE THING ( 1982 )
RealPinkDreams 1 year ago
@RealPinkDreams no, "the thing" was a remake of an older movie, "The Thing from Another World" from 1951
godmode1 1 year ago
@AlanSessler Perhaps but I'd say better writing is the key.

ABC sucks , they refuse to put any of their good TV Movies on DVD. Like this one.

Look on the bright side: there's always the 'black market'! Screw ABC.

@jbrande55 And this was a pretty good one, the music score (by Gil Melle) was pretty eerie as well.

@willardlockejr right now, I am looking for various Gil Melle tracks/movies.
