I'm from Maryland, and the 9:30 Club was host to several of my favorite shows. So jealous I was too young to see Cranes; that must have been AMAZING! This song brings back memories of when the term "alternative music" actually meant something.
Cranes!!!!! Oh man alive, I'm having a total regression therapy session tonight......I was an emo 90's style thanks to this amazing band. Kids these days have no idea what proper music is...............
This song by THE Cranes (hee-hee), remind me of my years I lived in Miami (I'm from Chicago). My mom came down to visit and I started playing this CD with the tune Everywhere. My mum (for you Brits) turned around and said to me, "that's a little girl singing" I will always remember that!
This song is absolutely amazing, such intense emotion. One of my new favorite songs. ...And music videos are usually completely boring, this ones quite the opposite.
Really!? Cool! Sounds like someone there has their head on straight! : ) Radio is completely dead here in the states, I'm actually reduced to listening to a HIGH SCHOOL radio station (when radio is all I've got, sometimes it's not bad). Even the university stations here have been nothing but crap for years! Sigh : (
I heard it too! Was bloody weird hearing Cranes on radio 2 on a saturday afternoon. The world was right for a few minutes! Even if it was Dale Winton announcing them!
Here's a question for you all! If none of you had ever seen this video and had to imagine what the video would look like or what comes to mind everytime you would hear this song?
For some reason I think of marching through a desert on foot somewhere in Mexico hoping to reach my destination! Yeah I know I'm definitely a weirdo!
Hey, not weird at all blueblade, Certainly I can at least hear or envision the heat of the beating sun in that reeling guitar part, and an urgency in that trodding pace of the baseline! Afterall, I'm part of the "fantasia" generation too, and a long time classic music listener, so I've had "music videos" dancing in my head well before there was any MTV. (I don't THINK I'm too weird, ) thanks for sharing! : )
She has a lot in common with Fraser, but not the breadth of vocal talents of Fraser (whom I consider to be one of the most stunning vocalists ever). I think Cranes have been just a tad influenced by Cocteaus!
i first heard about them like 6-7 years ago for the first time and i loved them from that moment.
so at first: a big thank you for posting those!!!
i was seriously close to crying, when i was walking around in Cologne here in Germany and saw a Poster of them... they played the night before in the City -.-
that was my biggest musical ARGH moment of the past years ^^
I bought this album when I heard the song "Jewel" on the radio years ago. (Probably 13 to 15 years ago, maybe?) This song and Jewel have been my favorite "Cranes" songs ever since!
Sounds rational enough, Vaughn, even as their respective heydays of optimum creative output were somewhat contemporaneous."Adrift"---to me----is their bleakest best. But yet---no video.
Not aware of anything post '97 as far as vids go. There may be a fan vid nabbed from one of their shows floating around out there, but that'd be about it.
Agreed! it's an excellent song, unfortunately no vid was ever made for it (sigh).
And yea, one of the real beauties of this band, I always though, was it's "hard simplicity", some down right solid composition, nicely layered, but no "fluff" to speak of.
Oh, I've done stuff like that too (eek)! The vids are all from various album releases throughout 90's. Check out starblood dot org, for all the info on Cranes you'd ever what to know. Cranes official website is cranes-fan dot com, which also has links to dadaphonic, their current label.
Wow... RainbowMonkeeMittens I love you so much for posting all of these. One of the most stylish, sophisticated bands ever to come out of such down to earth people. Love every song they ever made!
God these guys are beyond amazing. Never heard a band that could touch them. I have never, ever heard a 'bad' Cranes song. Saw them first time with the Cure in 92 in Detroit / Auburn Hills. Then downtown Detroit two more times.
A-MAZ-ING . . . (And they are very cool to talk with)
I took the song "Far Away" from the same album (Forever) and used it as the soundtrack on my video Episode 3. They deserve any publicity they can get. I make damn sure I posted all relevant information in the Credits at the end.
I love cranes, everywere was the first music that I heard from them. this video because is so old is a bit chessy. But i still like it, it's the frist time that I saw Alison Shawn as a blond :P.

If anybody has got the vid for 'ADRIFT' from this album, I would love to see it. Friggen XLNT song.
BTW, don't you love how the 2nd half of 'Everywhere' has such dramatic 'motion' to it? Simple chord changes, but superbly done.
