  • Easily Giamatti's greatest performance.

  • I really think Laura Linney was poor casting for Mrs. Adams. Both people are polar opposites; I could never see Mrs. Adams in Linney’s performance. Linney is too far left & to me it seems she wants to impress a bit of toady’s modern views upon Mrs. Adams of the past, but Hollywood likes to do that. I thought her performance was anachronistic.

  • this is great !! going to watch this in webmovietube

  • this is great !! going to watch this in webmovietube

  • We are watching this in my 8th grade history class. Pretty interesting!

  • Just finished watching the ENTIRE series in my high school history fact or fiction class. I absolutely LOVED it. It deserves every single award it was nominated for.

John and Abigail had such a passion for each other. I love the way he refers to her as "friend" Just a wonderful series. EVERYONE should watch it at least once.

  • this series is awesome. watching for the first time. history is now repeating it's self. unbelievable...God bless us all.

  • Jefferson was great in this mini-series.

  • If some of the people were insane back then, then there's more of us to come.

  • John Adams was insane. One day he would be strong and proud, the next day they would catch him balled up in the fetal position crying that he is a failure and worthless. He had a very weird way about him and today would have been committed to an insane asylum if he tried to run for office.

  • @HypnoGypsy Insane..? I beg to differ. I had no idea that you had the honor of knowing Mister John Adams. I don't think you have room to judge because I highly doubt you ever went through a second of what he had. Perhaps if you ever experienced the things he did you would be acting the very same way.

  • All the shit those guys went through back then to get this country stated and liberal slimebags today do everything they can to destroy it, everything they can to put the people under the rule of the government through climate hoaxes, huge taxes, Marxist policies. Freaking unreal. Deport all liberals and give citizenship to Mexicans. At least Mexicans appreciate it.

  • you surely have good thing to say...but your comment was not impressive.

  • Mexicans will just turn it into another Mexico. And no one likes Mexico.

  • Loved it! The attention to detail staggering. BRAVO to everybody connected with this production

  • Pooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!:0

  • I mean tarring. LOL!

  • I'm 11 and I watched the WHOLE series! It is very interesting! Who knew?

...Ummm...Except for the taring part... :p

  • I watched this movie in my social studies class today.Well, this is a pretty good movie, not,as of a lie.I heard that it's historically accurate. The kissing are the funny parts.xD

  • The show was way too pc for me.

  • How so? You might say that it went to great lengths to highlight the fact that slaves were involved in numerous undertakings that defined the early state, but then again, considering how their role has suffered diminished representation for such a long time, what's a little overrepresentation?

And the characters within were never portrayed as flawless either.

I've squirmed at movies bending over backwards trying to be PC, but I certainly felt differently about this one.

  • I think my state of mind was not clear at the time. I rented the movie to watch on 7/4. Hubby twisted his ankle that morning. I guess I was just in no mood for messing with my holiday. LOL

Today is a better day though.

Now I say that they did a wonderful job at everything. The only part was when they tarred and feathered that dude, I really did not need to see his...uummm.....yankee doodle dandy..'[blushing]

  • why-its acting. Prude much?

  • Its not PC it just doesn't follow a lot of the popular myths that people were raised on. But the real history of John Adams is better than the popular myths.

  • One of the things I enjoyed the most is listening to how eloquently and respectfully they spoke to each other, even when they were vehemently disagreeing. Unfortunately, so many supposedly "educated" people these days use language that only demonstrates how uneducated they really are. There's so much more to intelligence than mere book knowledge.

  • benzride, you have made an excellent point here. It is so sad to see those who disagree on something resort to anger and immature name calling. I think it is getting to the point where one will not even voice his/her opinion in fear of ridicule and vicious attacks.

It is quite a sad thing that in this age of the internet and so many resources of information that we cannot have intelligent conversations on an adult level.

  • upsguy03 and jingling30: Your comments are both spot-on. I'm glad to know there are others that feel the same way I do and that there are others that haven't succumbed to the dumbing down of our society.

  • Actually "educated" people no longer disagree. They get even. I feel discraced this country has fallen so far.

  • upsguy03 and jingling30: Your comments are both spot-on. I'm glad to know there are others that feel the same way I do and that there are others that haven't succumbed to the dumbing down of our society.

  • Thanks benzride. I really feel that most people really have similar hopes and dreams in life. However the differences emerge when many people have different ideas on how to achieve those hopes and dreams.

The ability to be able to converse, share ideas and be able to compromise with each other shouldnt really be that difficult. I think that too many people allow their emotions to override their judgment.

  • I wish it was still going was not ready for the mini series to end!! I looked so forward to watching on Sunday's.

  • Everything is good about this movie except for the choice to cast Steven Segal as Sam Adams.

  • The actor who played Sam Adams is Danny Huston.

  • Did you honestly think that was Steven Segal? Danny Huston is one of the world's finest actors.

  • Best Mini Series Ever!!!

    Paul Giamatti is Brillant!!!

  • I agree with Paul being brillant. I like him in all his movies, from pig vomit to this.

However, I could not get into this. I watched all 6 or 7 episodes. I don't know if it was the writing or the directing.

  • I read a recent review that stated this series is a bit too "intellectual". Good! Let the drooling dullards waste their time watching "American Idol" and "CSI: Whatever".

  • That Jefferson was a slick whore. Tried to squeeze on Abigal's jugs in Paris. Adams was hip to it on account of he knew Jefferson was trying to hump the Monticello out of his old lady. Bravo!!

  • AMAZING AND WORTH SEEING! Historically accurate detail makes for compelling viewing. Giamatti and Linney are briliant. Giamatti seems so much like this decade's Tom Hulce: he's an actor of great passion and intensity that can in a moment melt into a soft tenderness and then harden into true resolve and grit--all within moments. Few actors can match this flexibility and feeling. Great score. Great performance from Stephen Dillane as Jefferson. Must win awards or I never watch TV again.

  • such a good series!!! I cant wait til Sunday!!

  • Paul Giamatti is also known for serious roles as well. Other than his comedies, which is most famous for.

  • uh, ur Enligsh sucks

  • As does yours, judging by your spelling.

  • lol

  • Well, sorry! None of us are perfect, you know. Sometimes when we type so fast...it happens for the best of us. I mean, Youtube is still without a spellcheck and there is nothing we could about it. We are all human, so there you go. We make mistakes.

  • moron

  • john adams is played by the guy who was in big fat liar wow what a change

  • Thomas Jefferson brought Sally Hemings and other slaves along with him when he went to Paris. They didnt show that. Instead it showed him trying to charm the dress off of Mrs. Adams. Jefferson deserves to be on the odd ball 2 dollar bill. He seemed like a jerk.

  • Nope. There is three more left.

  • there ARE, not IS

  • there ARE, not IS

  • was the last episote wen washington became the president on the balcony

  • The best miniseries I've seen since Lonesome Dove. I can't even describe how good this series is. It is like mind-blowing-ly good! Can't wait until it comes out on DVD.

  • Fanfuckingtastic!!!!

  • k the last little clip of paul giamatti is fucking hilarious

  • omj my brother was in it as an extra

  • All I can say is: Amazing. This will win many awards. Finally, something to look forward to watching!

  • I started to watch the first one and now I can't wait til the next one comes out

  • There is another historical era that is rich, riveting and epoch-making, but NOBODY makes modern films about it: THE GOLD RUSH. Mr. Hanks, you'd be the man for the job....

  • I agree.

  • Historically accurate detail makes for compelling viewing. Giamatti and Linney are briliant. Giamatti seems so much like this decade's Tom Hulce: he's an actor of great passion and intensity that can in a moment melt into a soft tenderness and then harden into true resolve and grit--all within moments. Few actors can match this flexibility and feeling.

  • That's a great comparison. Tom Hulce is brilliant---too bad he isn't in too many things. Inner Circle still is one of my favorite films.

  • It's about time that someone came up with a realistic approach to showing the REAL revolutionary period. Thank you Tom Hanks!

  • This series is BRILLIANT. Within a minute or two, I was hooked. The acting is superb. Giamatti is in the role of his life and does not disappoint.

This series is a must see for anyone who values liberty and freedom.

  • CompuDoc, even for people who don't really value liberty and freedom, they will after seeing this series. It's worth seeing for everyone.

  • "But a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never

be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever."

    John Adams

    It's called the Patriot Act

  • He was referring to ALL LIBERTY, not limited privacies. There is a huge difference.

Repealing the patriot act weakens US ability to combat terror. I would gladly give up my library privacy than allow a hijacked plane fly into a high rise.

Liberty has a price. To be free, we must defeat our enemies. Adams goaded congress to declare independence rather than absorb more attacks by GB. 230 years later, Adams might even be willing to sacrifice limited privacies to protect against terrorist attacks

  • i'm glad to hear u say this. i disagree with the dissenters of the patriot act on theory. i dont know the specifics of the act--sorry--but i know it's supposed to invade our privacy.

well, read the Constitution again. where does it mention privacy ANYWHERE? nowhere! but it DOES say that the gov't's duty is to protect our safety! the privacy thing is a recent notion developed in our courts, but we're just being extremely spoiled. safety first!

  • I think what you're trying to say is, "I'll give up freedom so I can have more freedom."

    That is very logical.

  • i saw this show on sunday its a pretty good show. i wish it was out there when i was in school.

  • Who is the Artist of the "Sea Shanty"

  • Can someone please give a link to the AMAZING opening song!!!??

  • There isn't one yet. Wait until the series ends April 22nd.

  • enter " john adams theme ". it is a great song

  • It's phenomenal. The theme is called: "the sea shanty"

After you see this, come to Boston....you'll see where it all happened right here.

The letters between John and Abigail are also here.

  • Paul Giamatti is excellent as always:)

  • I want to know what the opening theme song is, or a link to it.

  • was this already played, i saw it advertised but i didn't see the date in time. i really wanted to watch it.

  • It's not remotely "lame". It's one of the best things on TV. And it's the historically accurate story of a great nation. End of story.

  • I'm sad to see that you have no taste.

    I'm 13, and I REALLY liked it..and no i'm not a geek.

(at least i'd like to think i'm not).

There are some really exciting scenes too, it's not all dialogue like some "lame" movies.

  • KnockEmOut123, you are the real geek!! How rude!!

  • how am i a geek?

i'm just saying i enjoyed the movie, and that most people who rented or decided to watch it in the first place would probably find it interesting.

and if i was rude, i apologize if i offended you.

  • I'm sorry if I have been somewhat mean to you. PLZ forgive me. Write back

    horseCRZY424

  • you can't knock em out...

  • buckskinhorses100, how rude you can't go around calling people a geek, because your the real geek.

  • I'm sorry someone called you that

  • Does anyone know where I can watch this online? Thanks!

  • And actually in the movie he says that the revoloution of america ws the worst in histoy, wrong the greek one was, 10 000 greeks vs the whole ottoman empire and 100 000 egyptian soldiers, 50 000 albanian soldiers and 700 000 arab soldiers... We won

  • Correct we the greeks made democracy and the romans built the republic, republic= select ur leader, democracy= select your nations right, course and actions. In greek Dimocratia (democracy) means nation of the people, in ancient greek dhmos meant people, cratos meant nation

  • guys notice how John Adams mentioned that he dreams of a "Republic" (not democracy) in the second part? thats cuz hes right. were not a democracy. a democracy is where the people vote for every decision that the president makes

  • Watched it last night, the tar and feathers was disturbing. Though I love this now,the show turned me into a history freak...

  • Watched parts 1&2 last night. All I can say is...amazing.

  • is it still playing?

  • Episodes 1 and 2 have played. Episode 3 is tonight. It's also on demand if you have a good cable box.

  • great movie!I loved the trail of the british soldiers who were invovled in the massacre and the reading of the declaration of independence.

I really hope they come out with a soundtrack to the miniseries because the music was AMAZING!

  • Some critic wrote in Chicago's Sun-Times that the scene where the British Soldiers were on trial, played like an eppy of Law and Order. I didn't see it that way when I watched it. I love that they didn't portray the Brit soldiers involved in the massacre like monsters as most American Rev movies do. They were boys; So young, and that crowd had to be scary.

  • It should. Adams was a lawyer. Not many know that he defended the british soldiers.

  • He stood above all else for justice, which is why the injustice of George III's Great Britain motivated him so. A truly admirable and inspiring man.

  • I just did fool. It was amazing! Very historically accurate.

  • lmfao ltcount

  • It was freaking awsome, though a lot was left out about John Adams, and the fact he was a cry baby, but there after, the accuracy was solid!!, makes you want to rise up and try Bush for his crimes..

  • we're ordering HBO just so we can see this.

  • i missed out on the Rome series. Was it worth it? ill buy it on DVD according to what u guys say

  • Rome is by far one of the best and well made series i have ever seen. And its totally worth checking out in my opinion.

  • IT REALLY SUCKED BUT GIVE IT A TRY.

  • I have been waiting for years for a mini series on the American Revolution... A story about all the amazing characters that founded our nation. I read 1776 but not John Adams. I hope the mini series includes great portrayal of all the main men involved.

Until a comprehensive mini series comes along I am excited to see this one. I think the American Revolution doesn't get nearly as much done about it because it wasn't as bloody as other wars.

  • The guy who wrote it is probably the worlds top authority on the subject. Cant remember his name, Scottish sounding like "Mc'colough"

  • I agree with you, I've been waiting for a good movie or series dipicting the American Revolution. And although that war may not have had the quantity of blood that other wars have, I must say that the quality deserves much more honor than we give it nowadays. Don't Tread On Me.

  • HBO is such a great channel. That Rome series they did was the best thing iv seen in years. We should make this freely available to everyone. No more Britney/oscar/rap/brain damaging crap.

  • yeah, its definitely coming to regular channels some time down the line if the history channel doesn't snap it up first like it did band of brothers.

  • God this makes me feel good to be an American!

  • WHo did the redcoats? They look very sloppy!

  • I helped buld the williamsburg/Richmond set for this miniseries. I'm looking forward to seeing it. I think it will be great.

  • if its not on blu ray its not worth it

  • its looks like the first days of freemasonry in EEUU

  • Starts MARCH 16TH ON HBO

    8:00 P.M.

I DON'T HAVE HBO SO I'M NOT SURE HOW I'M GOING TO WATCH THIS BUT MUST FIND AWAY.

    LOOKS GREAT.

  • Itll b out on DVD

  • when is the series going to air?

  • March 16

  • It will be good because anything with Paul is

  • I think he is really cute and that is my opinion and I'm allowed to have one and voice it!

  • I was in this trailer in the mob scene and I am so excited to see if I am in more of it.

  • I'm reading the book now. It is going to be hard for the movie to live up to that, but if it does it will be outstanding.

  • why did this book win the pulitzer what is it about it!

is it a nobel or non fiction?

does it sanitize the early beginings of the usa?

you know SLAVERY UNDER A CONSTITUTIONAL DEMOCRACY BASED ON THE RIGHTS OF INDIVIDUALS?

  • Ive read the book and the author tackled the issue head on. John Adams wrote in some of his letters that he found it hard to fathom that the declaration of independence could say all men are created equal yet there is slavery. Adams himself however, never owned or used slave labor, and was totally against it for religious reasons, unlike Washington and Jefferson who owned upwards of 200 slaves each.

  • WELL I THINK THAT IT IS A TRAVESTY THAT NO ONE HAS MADE A MOVIE ABOUT THE TRUE ORIGINAL FULL CONSISTENT TO THE CONSTITUTION AND BEYOND FOUNDING FATHER THOMAS PAINE!!!!

WHO was against not only slavery, sexism, homophia, cruelty to animals and THE TYRANNNY OF RELIGION to corrupt the mind!

  • Give it time... If we were to do all the founding fathers at one time it would degrade them unfairly.

  • this is gonna be sick

  • gOD, I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THIS!

  • Laura Linney is an amazing talented woman. I'm jealous of the regular joe that got engaged to her in 07.

  • I WAS IN THIS MOVIE!!!! lol

    extras unite!

  • ha ha ya my brothers was i tried to get in it and they didnt need me oh well this is going to be good

  • lol

    really?

    where was it shot

    ARE YOU SAG?

  • Can't wait to see this!! According to Entertainment Weekly, it starts March 16th!

  • I look forward to seeing it because it has Paul Giamatti. He is an excellent actor who never gets enough credit. Plus he is cute!

  • Paul giamatti is not cute! he looks like a toad!

he is a bit on a comedy character to play John Adams but we will see!

  • Another who can't wait to check out this series.

  • I am so excited about this! Although, I am a little dissapointed that Paul Giamatti is playing John...

  • hmm, Paul's an excellent actor and is especially good at playing a miserable somewhat anti-social bastard with somewhat of a disdain for his peers. Adams apparently a somewhat similar disposition so the casting might work

  • adams wasn't a bastard

  • Well that was his persona, not saying he wasn't a decent human being. Read McCulloughs bio on which this is based and you'll probably see why the casting director thought Giamatti would be a good pic.

  • why? Paul Giamatti is the perfect Adams

    right body type and everything

  • He's not obnoxious and disliked ;)

  • cool, cant wait for it to be out. Its funny how all the extras are commenting. Ill jump on that band wagon too. Roto artists unite! I cant wait to see all the scenes i worked on. Good stuff.

  • I'm so excited for this! I can barely contain myself. McCullough's book was great, and I just love John Adams.

  • I cant wait 2 c this and not only because im in it, it looks sooooo good

  • Me too!! I can't wait either!! I absolutely loved the book, and I've been hoping for a movie on it since the moment I read the biograghy! Thank you so much for posting this!!! :-)

  • Oh man! I can't wait. The movie looks fantastic!

  • when is this due out 2008?

  • I'm in the crowd outside the window :-D

  • I'm so excited about this. The book is the greatest biography I have ever read!

  • This is going to be beautiful. I have been waiting for this for years. It is not only one of the best nonfiction books ever written, but it is Paul Giamatti's time to shine.
