thats a shame. Ive been out in big waves with 30kt winds and had a hard time tacking my hobie cat into the waves, kept getting knocked back and the bow wouldnt come around. Was almost pushes into the breakers by a pier, on about the 5th tack attempt I made it around, and went back into the harbor.

Piers are very dangerous. The barnicles on the pilings will slice you up like theres no tomorrow.

God this is erie. I just wanted to say that cutting anyone off is poor seamanship in my OPINION. HOWEVER (and this is important) Under the Nav Regs the US Coast Guard publishes and which everyone should read Sailboats have the right of way while under sail (NOT MOTORING OR MOTOR SAILING). Unless restricted by navagation. For instance a motor boat with a deep draft in shallow water trying to make it though a dredged lane would have the right of way.

The laser is a dinghy. Many sailboats can do better than 20mph and at the end of the day, you did something that took some skill and you aren't out anything for fuel. But your way is certainly easy-mode; no doubt.
