In my view, much more romantic verses than the Stafford version, but Elvis ruins the mood with his staccato "Suspicion" at the beggining of each chorus. It's generally a subtle performance, and I understand why the powers that be did not release it as a single. If they had, it would have charted, but if Elvis was an unknown, it would have gone direclty to the bin. Glad that Stafford heard something more in the tune and gave us a great performance.
@alphakid42 I've always loved Elvis, but I agree with you. I always wished to hear Elvis sing this song exactly the way Stafford did, just to compare the two. I'd also love to hear Elvis do Conway Twitty's "Lonely Blueboy" and "It's Only Make Believe".
Elvis really pisses me off,the man had everything, charisma, voice of a god,...and look's f...k me he was a handsome kid...guess some people are just born special,Elvis certainly was.....LONG LIVE THE KING.
Be honest , nomatter who sang this song first , Elvis Presley sings this song the best. Even the music sounds better than Terry's version. Terry's version sounds like the demo compared to Elvis Presley's cut.
Terry Stafford was a second rate hack who stole the King's song, then tried to trick and con everybody into buying his record thinking it was The King. Listening to the real version recorded by The Man, hinself, Elvis, its like comparing Apples & Oranges. No contest. Elvis is The Undisputed King of Rock.
WOW!!!!....There is nothing at all in this world that will match the smoothness the fantastic Elvis magic. ....smiles....What a fantastic superb King!.....simply a voice from heaven...perfection. There is a Lana Del Rey waiting in the Isles to challenge for that mantle of greatness. Her voice is very unusual indeed a voice that has something very special indeed very addictive. But listening to you again its going to take something phenomenal to have a chance. But we cant rule here out though.
Terry Strafford version sounds good till you hear The King's ...sorry Terry no contest......nobody can compete with Elvis many have tried and all failed
Guess thats why Terry's version sold more that Elvis's did. Terry only sang one song that was any good. Elvis is very very hard to beat, whether it be country, rock or gospel The big E has it all covered.
@surrynet No, you moron. Elvis recorded originally this song but it wasn't released as a single until 1964, while Terry's cover was released in 1962. In those times people only bought singles. Learn a little more history you ignorant
@qqsomething Just where the fuck did I say that Terry recorded the damn song first?. NOWHERE. Did you read the post CLEARLY before you made an ass out of yourself?. im 21 years old and have been listening to elvis and all the other oldies and i love them but im a MASSIVE elvis fan !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! his songs are amazing and so are his films
@StanBennet Hell yeah man and another cool fact is when he went in he told them he wanted to be treated as any other soldier would be not any different just because he was so famous...
@1DarkPunk My dad met Elvis' former commanding officer, when he was stationed in Germany in the 70's, and he said that Elvis was the best soldier that America ever had, he would do his duties without complaining, no matter what he was ordered to do. So there you go America, another reason to love this man.
This song was done by Elvis, but he had so many hits in the same time zone that it was not as popular. Then Terry Stafford came with his version, the disc jocks played the crap out of it.Anyway both are great. God bless Elvis and Terry Stafford .
Damn this song is fantastic ..If Elvis was around today he would certainly wipe the floor with todays singers ..Elvis could sing anything ..Miss you Elvis BIG TIME
@paulietrev1 I heard a story that Elvis saw Rod Stewart on tv and fell out of bed laughing at him. and that was in the seventies so yeah, the talent pool is even more shallow today. More of a talent thimble.
