A mechanism in the trigger assembly snaps forward, hits the rear of the bolt (on a shotgun), and moves the firing pin forward which strikes a primer. The follower is in the magazine tube, has nothing to do with any of this. Bottom line: He failed to use the safety and he failed to keep his finger out of the trigger. He fired that shot.

If you have a gun that CAN fire without the trigger being moved (depressed or thrown back by a drop), you should spend more than $125 and get a new one... seriously. And since he was just standing there I would bet a YEAR's pay, he pulled the trigger. Remember, drinking and hunting don't mix well.

he most likely learned from the incident (note "most likely"). I've had a negligent discharge before and I seriously felt like shit for a long time because I always thought of myself as a responsible gun owner. I thank God til this day that I didn't accidentally shoot one of my friends. Shit like that really opens your eyes now I'm fucking insanely careful with my firearms.

well we all should know guns can fire accidentaly without pulling the trigger could be a problem with the follower and goes off when you move or say the firing pin get is faulty it could snap and hit a round boom
but yes i think it was the rule #2 dont put your finger in the trigger unless your ready to shoot

@gunny556fly You clearly don't understand how a "firing pin" works. The firing pin is static. A mechanism in the trigger assembly snaps forward, hits the rear of the bolt (on a shotgun), and moves the firing pin forward which strikes a primer. The follower is in the magazine tube, has nothing to do with any of this. Bottom line: He failed to use the safety and he failed to keep his finger out of the trigger. He fired that shot.

@gunny556fly You have no idea what you are talking about. Disassemble a "gun" and see how a firing pin works. And 99% of modern guns CANNOT fire without touching the trigger. If you have a gun that CAN fire without the trigger being moved (depressed or thrown back by a drop), you should spend more than $125 and get a new one... seriously. And since he was just standing there I would bet a YEAR's pay, he pulled the trigger. Remember, drinking and hunting don't mix well.

@gunny556fly Only if you pull the trigger. The hammer is prevented from moving forward unless the trigger is pulled. PLUS the hammer must be back. If the hammer on the revolver is not back, it is completely impossible for accidental discharge to occur. So, sorry, you are incorrect sir.
