  • Go to Terry Sylvester at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum video & see NewHopeNashFan admit he's TuneKritiq!!

  • TuneKritiq is NewHopeNashFan posting under a new name. Ever since I announced this, we haven't heard from either of them, have we? hmmm

  • Nash behaved just fine - acknowledged a lot of people in his acceptance speech including Sylvester. Compare Sylvester's speech and performance... everything should speak for itself. A minor incident. Why drag this out?

  • Terry has always been SO proud to have been a Hollie and to be inducted into the RRHOF. He was the one that helped the Hollies carry on wihen Graham CHOSE to leave and it was Terry that sang lead on Long Cool Woman on tour when Allan CHOSE to leave!!!! Terry, you and Tony were the reason I went out and bought every Hollies album I could find after seeing YOU on The Midnight Special and In Concert. LOVE YA FOREVER!!!!!!

  • I didn't say I didn't like Graham and Allan together not in the least! I loved them from 1965 on and still do. I'm having a Hollies reunion here in my self. When i went to college in the fall of 68, Graham appeared to me as CS&N...and i loved them! I was a hippie/art/music student at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas...the home of Buddy Holly, his namesake was The Hollies. Lynne xo

  • I love Terry and The Hollies...it wasn't staged right. Terry should'nt have been dissed there. It was such a weird and unprofessional scene on stage. i love the sounds that Terry was singing with Allan and Tony/...Graham left the Hollies....and Terry looked the part, and had the voice and musicianship skills to fit in and he did beautiful. Terry I am for you and the Hollies...you all together were great, and being a Texas girl, I was in love with you all...Lynne xoxo AUSTIN,TEXAS

  • @LynnaRenae Graham IS the eternal Hollie. He could never be replaced. Sylvester did his job. I wish he had behaved at the Hall of Fame ceremony.

  • His high harmonies were the best!!

  • I am sick of this, actually. The induction is long since over and done with, the present Hollies decided not to show up, Graham did his best, Allan surprised us, Sylvester felt snubbed, Nash is too much of a gentleman to carry on while Sylvester keeps harping on it whenever he performs. By their fruits you shall know them. We should ALL give it a rest.

  • @NewHopeNashFan Watching the beginning of this video of the songs that The Hollies did, I don't see Terry in the video at all. Was someone trying to exclude Terry?Wouldn't you feel snubbed after watching that? Then not being asked to sing on stage,Terry didn't plan on singing on stage because he thought that they were going to cover songs from the Nash era and not LCW. So when they started playing LCW he just wanted to be part of the song he was a part of in the past. Can't blame him.

  • Terry, sorry....but you did look so much nicer with long hair.... Really

    Janina xx

  • Terry, you look and sound like my local butcher...sure it's not you!!

I love Porterhouse steaks failing that T bones or lamb shanks ok? See you then up the road, just keep your day job honey!!

    Janina xx

  • Perhaps by the time Allan Clarke left the remaining members could have become 'Ivy' or something. It's definitely not the same group now as it was during their golden age, (the Nash era) or even their silver age (the Clarke-alone era)

Of course, not to be of the same calibre as Nash/Clarke/Hicks/Elliot/Calvert is not all bad. But they're just not the same 'Hollies' somehow.

  • yer factory workers get shafted too .

  • Just my thoughts: Maybe T thought G & A were behind him not being sked for the rehearsal, after arriving in NY,..and being snubbed by them the next day..made him do what he did so he could be in that show. Maybe G & A felt snubbed that he wasn't at the rehears., so snubbed back. Maybe someone at the RRHOF created this fiasco to cause controversy and trouble on purpose for publicity or something.

  • @ladybluluv terry was proud to be at the hall of fame and your right . he was snubbed . i believe that is why he acted that way on stage. it was not about allan and nash, it was about the hollies ,all of them being reconized. , not just 2 of them.

  • @dunoon1954

I agree and I find it a real shame. Terry stepped in when Graham left and was in fact longer in the band than Graham was. I felt very sad when Graham left, but found Terry a very appropriate replacement. Also, let's not forget Allan's comings and goings when he was dissatisfied with the Hollies and wanted to start a solo career. When I spoke to Terry in 1980, prior to his leaving the group, this was one of the reasons for his own unhappiness und ultimately why he left himself.

  • @ladybluluv It was awkward all the way around. I think it would have been less awkward had Tony and Bobby been there instead of parading around England with the Hollies name. I love them both but without Alan or Graham they are no more the Hollies than I and four random strangers. I never liked Terry because I resented him taking Graham`s spot even though G chose to leave. T did make an ass of himself with the acceptance speech however...

  • @pilesovinyl I don't agree. Tony can be the Hollies without either one of them any day, even though I 'do' like the other guys too. How can you resent Terry when he took over when Graham CHOSE to leave and did a FINE job and for a LONG time? That's just SO wrong. His acceptance speech was fine. 'You' obviously have the problem.

  • @ladybluluv I`ve long believed that too many bands carry on when less than half of the members are left or the key people or lead singers are different. Are the Beach Boys still viable without Carl ,Dennis and Brian Wilson performing? Are the Who still the Who without Keith Moon and John Entwistle? Are the Temptations still the same with one of five remaining? Alan and Graham were the lead vocalists and two parts of the greatest three part harmony.

  • @pilesovinyl I feel the same about many bands, with exceptions. If a key player leaves and the band still wants to carry on, what should they do? Not do it at all? Change the name? Perhaps. You can often, depending, replace 1 or 2 people and it still works. It's not the same, but do-able, adds a new dimension. Tony, the lead guitarist and 3rd part harmony was a key figure. They want to keep doing Hollies songs. Guess they 'could' alter the name though. It's just the way it happened to evolve.

  • @NewHopeNashFan Yeah...whatever...at least he stuck with the band, kept it going, and is still doing it. Why don't you go away already? You are annoying. HIcks Rules!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @ladybluluv We know why Graham had to leave - even Allan admits that they were two years behind Nash and that they were holding him back. Enough already. You can still enjoy the present day Hollies. Just give this controversy a rest. Tony Hicks chose not to come. That's what you're really sad about, I guess.

  • @NewHopeNashFan yeah it's too bad Graham didn't stick it out with the Hollies. He didn't give it his best to try and do better with the band instead he left. Thank god they found Terry!

  • @bcrfan21 It's too bad the Hollies did not listen to Graham or like his later songs when he tried a more progressive approach than their standard formula, actually. They could have been on a par with Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones, or at least gone out in a blaze of glory like the Beatles.

    Thank God we have CSN!

  • @NewHopeNashFan yeah if they listened to Graham we wouldn't have those great songs they had after he left. So glad they didn't go that way and sing songs like CSN.

  • @luvcorywells Their most typical and original songs - and most of their hits in the UK - had the Graham Nash sound, and melodies/lyrics by Nash, Clarke and Hicks. You must admit that their post-Nash 'successes' were all 'middle of the road', derivative and mostly written by men other than the Hollies themselves.

Crosby, Stills and Nash have always been original and progressive, have never changed their distinctive sound, and have never compromised their high standards one iota.

  • @pilesovinyl I think that Sylvester was hired precisely because he would NOT shine forth as much as the genius that preceded him, since the group wanted to tour. NO ONE could possibly have replaced Graham Nash - Sylvester was basically a useful pawn who did the job he was asked to do.

His behavior at the RRHoF ceremony was frankly embarrassing, chiefly to himself.

  • @NewHopeNashFan I have to agree with you. When Graham left I was 13 and very disappointed that my favorite in the band left. Anyone who took his place I wouldn`t have liked. Terry did have a good enough voice for the harmony I admit.

  • @NewHopeNashFan

What happened at the induction was ugly, but if it's a choice between Terry singing or some random pop singer born the year Terry joined the Hollies (vocal ability notwithstanding) Terry is the obvious choice.

  • @beowulven Sylvester WAS in fact one of Graham's preferences, as were Tony HIcks, Bobby Elliott. At least he knew Tony and Bobby declined. When Sylvester could not show up, what could poor Nash do but plan around those he knew he could depend on?

  • @NewHopeNashFan What you do is you realize "hey, our mate HAS shown up", and then you give a little nod to the replacement, kinda like "hey, ya know we appreciate your steppin' in and all, but he was actually in the band, so ya mind if he sings a bit here"? Then the sub gracefully steps back (which, to his credit, he DID do), and Sylvester gets his moment too, without Clark pushin' the damned mic out of his hands back to the substitute. THAT'S what you do.

  • @vampyros1 Well, Graham didn't give Sylvester any trouble, being the gentleman he is. Sylvester did get his chance to sing a verse, as awkward as the moment was. I'd cut the startled Allan Clarke some slack... and it's too bad this has raged for so long, and that Sylvester is still resentful of the great Graham Nash!

  • @NewHopeNashFan Well, you're wrong. Re-chk. the vid; he sang precisely 2 lines before the rude Clarke started belly-aching and then immediately started literally pushing the mic out of his hands. Sylvester actually has a right to resentment.

  • @vampyros1 but not of Nash. He really should put it behind him now and bask in his award even if things turned out to be so awkward. It is those of us who keep harping on this that need to cool off as well. (And be more like Nash. Do you notice how he didn't act badly towards Sylvester?)

  • @vampyros1 You hit the nail on the head thank you for seeing things the way they really are.

  • @bcrfan21 Thanks for the nice words.

  • @NewHopeNashFan graham didn't give Terry any trouble he just looked the other way and ingnored him.

  • @SOSHUA99 Graham Nash was the perfect gentleman indeed, not reacting to the situation in any way. He is a true professional. Three time that guy!!!! *S*

  • @NewHopeNashFan Wish Graham would of been a better and fair person and included all of The Hollies in the beginning video and the rehearsals and to be on stage to sing. He showed how petty and vindictive he is behind the scenes and he just didn't want to show on live tv the true GN that's why he looked the other way.

  • @luvcorywells I doubt Graham Nash had anything to do with the video selections on the Fuse TV special. He probably had to round up whoever he could to do the musical numbers and that was it. The whole scene with Sylvester was probably embarrassing - remember, Nash never worked with Sylvester and never had a reason to hold any grudges. On the other hand... Sylvester's axes were ground on national TV for all to see.

  • @ladybluluv Graham Nash created this fiasco. He was the one in charge.

  • I saw Terry 5 yrs ago and he sounded good then.

  • Yeah, I want to see the performance too. I thought they didn't end up performing that night, but maybe they did!

  • he got the mic taken away during long cool woman.

  • who is the guy sitting next to Terry

  • Dick Cheney?
