Luckily Higurashi thought me not to judge an anime by its pilot ep and its art direction. What starts off as a mahou shoujo shit turns out simply amazing. What Homura and Kyubei make of the story is on par with Higurashi and Death Note, and those 2 hate em or love em have the best storylines imho.

That moment when you realize what makes Madoka so special or.. not so special. And when you, hearing his logic realize the the bad guy does have a point, that he isn`t bad just cause thats how he is.

This fight scene is awesome, but so messed up! It's obvious that Sayaka is suffering seeing how she completely loses control of herself, but it seems like the witch is suffering too. (at,1:02 it looks like she's either praying or holding herslef while crying.) It kind of leaves you feeling horrible for everyone involved in this fight.

@redfairy7 Rena isn't even a Yandere. She's a Yangire. Still unstable, but not the same as Yandere.

Mind, Rena's sanity is actually quite stable, and she really only loses it in one arc in the anime and manga. (spoiler, but in the first arc, Rena being crazy was Keiichi's hallucination) Shion Sonozaki is the only true Yandere in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.

But Yuno Gasai is still Yandere-incarnate XD

@AmyRoseAisha Shion's a yandere? Not sure if serious. The fact that she has a canon love interest doesn't make her a yandere in Meakashi-hen. A yandere is a character who uses violence BECAUSE of her obsessive love for someone. Shion is in love, yes - but the reason she was violent was because of the syndrome, so she doesn't qualify as a yandere.

I really disliked Madoka Magica. All the girls were so "nice" and "self-sacrificing". It is as if the only way girls can help others is by sacrificing themselves. And none of the girls wished for "world peace", lol.

The only reason why I kept watching this anime was because of the cool fight scene. But yeah, the story is unbelievable bad.

@indiehunk "Nice and self-sacrificing?" Kyoko believed in a food chain monopoly and was more than willing to sacrfice "weak humans" for the grief seeds obtained by defeating witches. Even Mami admitted to the truth of the Mahou Shojo world and it wasn't as if she denounced it. Sayaka, overtaken by grief and sorrow rejected humanity all together as she became a witch,. And Homura was fulfilling a promise to her best friend, Kaname Madoka, is that so bad?

My point exactly. Kyoko was supposed to be "bad" and all, but in the next episode (or maybe the one after), she was all nice and friendly toward Sayaka. Not sure about your point on Mami, but Sayaka sacrificed herself over a guy. And at the end, it is implied as if all famous female historical figures got their strengths from magic! The girls depicted in this series are unbelievable nice, cutsey, and too self-sacrificing.

@indiehunk Self-sacrificing? Yeah right. There was nothing worth self-sacrificing in those wishes. With the exception of Madoka's last wish, there was nothing self-sacrificing about any of the wishes that the girls made. They were not unbelievably nice either. All those who became Puella Magi suffered horribly for what they wished for. Everyone was really selfish. Homura and Sayaka especially for the reprecussions they wreaked on their lives without knowing what they really wanted.

As for Madoka-chan herself, it's not like she just decidied on a whim "OMG, I'm gonna sacrifice myself for everybody." It took witnessing all the terrible events around her(Mami's death, Sayaka's becoming a witch, Kyoko's death, the relevation that Homura has been traveling space and time ad infinite to save her and Incubator's relevation about Puella Magi throughout history. And even there, YOU missed the point. It's not that they all become Puella Magi that's important.

But rather, it's that because they became Puella Magi, they all suffered terribly(IE: Became Witches or something to that effect). Madoka saw it that Incubator betrayed them, and that is what motivated her wish.

You missed the entire point about Madoka having so much potential that she could wish for ANYTHING SHE WANTED. Kyouko believed in letting humans die to feed her magical power, but she saw herself in Sayaka, that's why she cared for her. Mami's wish was to save herself,

A huge point was that people would make self-sacrificing wishes, which wasn't what they truly wanted.

@suplextrain Well, that's what makes it so great. IMO, scenes with only fighting can get pretty boring and usually have little to no character development. This fight scene was great in its artistic manner, which is the combination of the b&w palette, character development, and symbolism.

@suplextrain The character with the cutlass, just discovered that her soul had been turned into a gem and that she was no longer human. in the depths of her misery she used her powers to lose all sense of pain so that she could defeat witches that were much stronger than her. However the use of her power like this is slowly corrupting her soul and turning her into a witch herself. In addition she refuses to purify her soul and only desires to kill as many witches as she can before she dies.

@Artifrost It is! And that's the beauty of this show - it's equal parts scary, thrilling and sad. When I was watching this scene the first time, so many emotions were running through me. I was worried like hell that Sayaka's silhouette would be gutted or ripped apart, I was cheering when Kyoko showed up and when Sayaka pulled through, and then I was heart-broken when you see the end scene and she's clearly lost herself.
