  • i just loved the show at the chatelet, and i enjoy very much pesson's music (well, not so much in this show, as i'm not an opera lover - still i also liked the music in "pastorale"...) - the comment by otavioandradas may not be put in terms of "conservative versus modern", but it looks pretty much like it ! - anyway, these small bits give some good idea of the visual aspect of the show, but maybe not so much of the music - for example, very little is left of the lovely aria by raphaelle dess...

  • @kolibet Thanks. Indeed, Pesson's music can't be limited to this video clip.

  • Hello Jonathan,

Yes, I just want to clarify that I am NOT criticizing the video. I am only talking about the music. I comment on contemporary music because it is something I do want to enjoy too. HOWEVER, I wanted to share my experience of listening to a Monteverdi Madrigal and immediately listening to excerpts of this contemporary opera afterwards.

And I am not talking about being conservative versus being adventurous. I am questioning the content of many contemporary music works.

  • @otavioandradas Yes. I understood and that's why I said "but I understand your opinion and I trust you when you say that this opera is not a good thing for your ears." I'm sure you're more qualified than me to judge music.

Happy new year and best wishes.

  • let me tell you something: never see/listen to anything after seeing/listening to Monteverdi (Orfeo, Madrigals, etc, etc, etc). It creates a very odd sensation that today's music has many colors but very, very, very little content. That's what happened here...I was just listening to Monteverdi's Io mi son giovinetta then jumped to this clip....sorry, my bad...

  • @otavioandradas I understand your frustration.

I am not a specialist in terms of opera and I don't know Monteverdi, but I understand your opinion and I trust you when you say that this opera is not a good thing for your ears.

But I think you don't understand why this video is here. We are VIXID, a french manufacturer of video solutions. This video is here on our Youtube Channel just to show the Pierrick Sorin video scenography...

  • @otavioandradas ...What is amazing in this video, it's the video creation on stage. Well, I am sorry if you was disappointed by this video but it was here not for the song, just for the image. I hope you will find better Opera in the future when you search on youtube.

    Best regards,

    Jonathan

D'accord ! Musical opulence and flashy noises, but little there, and the same flashy noises. So conservative.

Perhaps it's a little unfair to rest upon Pesson a criticism of the combined endeavour of all composers in the world writing now.

Monteverdi's music has survived to this day largely because he was the most extraordinary composer of his context, amongst a throng of other composer ranging from bad, mediocre to very good. Most of the music of his era lacked content.
