  • FREAKIN---I haven't watched this show in ages, and I watch this ONE CLIP and I'm in tears! ;--;

  • That is ASTONISHINGLY good acting. Why dont we have more of this in our tv?

  • Ben sound's like Roger in American Dad.

  • I just wanna have him~after watching this....

  • '' I HAD A CHANCE TO SAVE HER ''

  • Best scene from the entire series, hands down.

  • @seraphoni better than Desmond calling Penny in the constant?

  • Just beautiful

  • LOVE this scene.

  • just amazing

  • "But the thing that really mattered... was alredy gone"

    Oh gosh, he's THE actor.

  • Me: "wow this woman is amazing she has soo much charcter development in so little ti- *blows up from dropping dynamite*

    O.O................................wat.

  • Ben is one of the best characters from the Lost mythos without a doubt

  • anyone know the song?

  • Comment removed

  • @etnies10 Yes, the song is part of the soundtrack of Lost, the sixth season, is called "The Karma Has No Price", and yes, the song makes the scene even more beautiful, I hope you serve :)

  • @dablakksuperman Same here. I hated Ben (but loved how Emerson played him), and as soon as he said those words there were tears in my eyes.

  • I always knew Ben was never a truly evil guy, and every single one of my friends and co-workers ALL thought I was crazy for the longest time. He just had a horrible father, no mother, and lived a lonely life. I'm so glad this scene took place. After it happened I told all of my doubters "I told you so!" :)

And yeah, I cried during this scene.

I loved Ben so much that I was him for Halloween last year. Best costume I've ever had!

  • @xtronlx That is a great insight. I always felt the same way even though my favorite character was Locke.

  • It sucks that such a great performance from Michael Emerson gets screwed by awful acting by that bitch...

the "Where will you go?" and the " Why?" are horribly acted.

Michael is great though, what a fantastic actor.

  • I'LL HAVE YOU BEN

  • One of the most touching scenes in the history... It is amazing how much sympathy everyone gets for Ben. Like anyone else, he is a man with regrets and filled with emotion... This is why no show can replace Lost! Absolutely fantastic.

  • I was pretty stunned. Before "Lost" the only other time I had seen Michael Emerson was in the original "Saw". Who knew that he had this kind of acting ability? I had the pleasure of meeting him the other day in NYC and he was one of the kindest men I've ever met.

  • Best scene ever.

  • @minigibby2212 yep!!!

  • I hated this character until "because he's the only one that will have me." It gets me every time.

  • Benjamin Linus = Pure awesomeness.

  • Michael Emerson did an outstanding performance right there! Even in German dubbing the idea he might be the best actor in the world immediately occured to me. Yes I mean it! :)

  • the greatest scene of all ime

  • Am I the only one who thinks at the beginning, Ben was ready to shoot her, but couldn't because she looked slightly like Alex? Maybe I'm totally wrong, but it seemed that way to me.

Anyway, I have adored Ben from the start and this scene really made me love him even more, which I thought was impossible.

  • the actress playing illana was awesome in this scene too. <3

  • This scene will cure cancer since even Chuck Norris will cry watching it!

  • Honestly i thought Linus was mind fucking her , but turned out something else

  • how can 9 people dislike this? this is magic!

  • Emerson stole the show from season 3 on.

  • @tohopes It was a continuous battle between him and O'Quinn.

  • @tohopes Completely and absolutely agree.

  • 2:28 absolutely SLAYS me. incredible.

  • what a tremendous scene! After the back story I really feel for Ben!

  • My favorite characters on Lost from the very beginning was John Locke and Ben Linus. Of course, I hated Ben at first like most people, but I also really, really liked him at the same time... if that makes any sense.

    <3 BEN

  • seriously how could they kill ilana after that scene. i never really connected with her to begin with. but this scene was epic! she deserves a little more of a send off then what she got!

  • hands down best lost moment ever. redemption of benjamin linus.

  • This is my favorite scene from Lost. ME is truly outstanding. He made Ben Linus my absolute favorite character on Lost.

  • "and he didn't even care"

someone's cutting onions I swear. Jacob's an asshole.

  • This never fails to make me well up :')

  • my fav actor of all time without a fuckin doubt :)

  • Could anyone tell me what song is playing while Ben is explaining to Ilana?

I need is so that I can cry, where ever I am.

  • Again dammit! Tears!

  • I figured out why one reason why Ben is such a creep!!

If you watch him walk, he barely swings his arms. I love how actors have those little things that they do.Micheal Emerson was robbed of an Emmy this past year. He was incredible.

  • I tear up every time I see this clip . Bravo!

  • I want to hug him!

  • I literally have tears pouring down my face as I watch this. The way he said, "Over her!" and "The thing that really mattered was already gone." literally broke my heart. I have loved Ben since the beginning and I always will.

  • Was in new york city in may once, and I was at a bar and Michael Emerson walked in got a beer and left. He did it so quick and no body even noticed him lol!

  • My favourite Ben episode =)

  • Only someone who didn't get Linus would think this outburst is sincere. If anything, this scene is a testament to Linus' coldness and uncanny ability to display emotions very convincingly when necessary. Ben's a survivor, he's smarter than even MIB. MIB kills the protector&gets punished for millennia, Linus kills the protector& gets a job. Even at a point when Illana is ready to execute him, he finds exactly the right words to change her mind! Ben plays people like chesspieces.

  • I'LL HAVE BEN! what an amazing actor and emotional scene!

  • Ben Linus reminds me of Tolkien's gollum. Despicable, treacherous, murderous, maniacal...but pityable. He and gollum show us an important aspect of the human condition: that to our hearts, remorse is more powerful even then justice. Bravo, Mr. Emerson.

  • very emotional

and very great background music,Mr. Giaccino

  • it's a fantastic scene, my only problem is that this scene is a pretty big deal for the character arc of Ben, it's suppose to be the defining redemption scene, and then a handful of episodes later they basically undo it, by having him shoot Widmore in cold blood and asking Locke for more people to kill, then they basically pretend that didn't happen just an episode later in the finale when he's buddy buddy with the Jack group again.

  • @kyleclassics I view it as Ben tricking MIB into thinking he turned evil again but really only did it to try and stop Charles from giving MIB the inf, but he wasn't fast enough.

  • Best series ever!

  • Just 9 words and I loved Ben Linus. Makes you think about real life...how just a few words can make or break anything.

  • I love the way he says "but thing that really mattered, was already gone" Emerson is sooooo talented, I couldn't think of anyone better to play Ben

  • p.s......Michael Emmerson's acting skills are immense on this scene in particular...was definitely worth another emmy!

  • one of the most atmospheric scenes in Lost in my opinion! loved it, made my heart melt :)

  • too bad illana gets blown up

  • I cry every single time I watch this scene.

    I love you Ben. <3

  • this scene had made me cry

  • I love this Ben Linus moment!

  • I'll have you Ben.

  • This.. makes me tearful no matter how many times I watch it..

Ben has always been my favourite. Emerson is a legend.

  • loves illana she is so fierce <333

  • This scene was my favorite of the entire series ... Michael Emerson had already been amazing since he first stepped foot onto Lost but when he says "because he's the only one that will have me" in this scene ... he did an astounding thing. Michael Emerson changed Ben from a character everyone loves to hate into a character that viewers around the world felt sympathy for ... no small feat when he portrays such a terribly awful and mean character on the show. Michael Emerson is an amazing actor!

  • @jessilyn737 he is i watched him as Zep Hindle in SAW 1 and he turned this creepy hospital orderly into this amazing but still creepy character into my favourite character of all time. His acting was amazing!! Micheal Emerson is the best! <3

  • @jessilyn737 Pretty sure that was the writers..

  • good acting!

  • "Because he's the only one that'll have me" :(

one of the best scenes ever. the Emmys were a joke this year. everyone knows Michael Emerson deserved it. and if not him then Terry O'Quinn.

btw mad men is stupid. LOST shoulda won best drama.

  • brilliant, Michael emmerson is a good actor, nr.2

  • I don't know what it is but Ben is so cool, I mean even though he started out as a real jerk in the series you know there's good in him and good in him, and you want to see him atone for his evil ways and become a good guy. Ben Linus is to LOST what Vegeta was to Dragonball Z

  • @CosmicUndeadElf Okay I kind of repeated myself there accidentally, oops lol!

  • @CosmicUndeadElf your right there, every show has a stand out character that makes the show so great, like you said it was vegeta in DBZ, and in my opinion its chandler in friends, josh lyman in the west wing, spike in buffy the vampire slayer, barney stinson in how i met your mother....il stop now.

and it is most certainly ben linus in lost

  • Michael Emerson is the man. I really grew to kinda like Ben as the show continued, he was a very complex character.

  • Keanu Reeves should take off his crappy-acting crown and hand it to these two.

  • amazing. Thanks to the magical composer too

  • My favourite scene of the whole series.

  • Amazing scene....Thanks for posting....

  • I thought for sure if Michael Emerson didn't win an Emmy, Terry O'Quinn would! Neither of them winning is beyond ridiculous! WTF!!

  • @Streetweare Its ok they have both won before in the past. So it's all good. I wanted Matthew Fox to win this time, but hell to the no

  • Aaron Paul is a good actor no doubt about it.

But it takes an AMAZING actor to pull off a scene like this!

Michael Emerson you are AWESOME :D

  • Amazing scene.

  • Needs more explosions

  • This is not even emmy worthy...THIS right here, is fucken OSCAR worthy

  • "...but the thing that really mattered, was already gone..." ..............and here come the waterworks

  • He's brilliant. He should get more roles like this one.

  • Giachinno deserved the Creative Arts Emmy for this scene too. GREAT MUSIC. Listen to how it affects the emotion. Amazing,.

  • And he didn't win the Emmy.... this is BEYOND bullshit. He deserves it for this scene alone.

  • That was so sad T__T

  • so amazingly good, just speechless..

  • Emmy worthy scene

  • I teared up a little when I first saw this - especially when he said "Because he's the only one that will have me." :(

  • Probably one of the best and most emotional scenes out of the entire series! I think he deserves 2 Emmy's for this amazing performance.

  • lol, "Your gun doesn't stand a chance against MY gun!"

  • Please please please... give him the emmy... please..

  • michael emerson - i salute thee. thank you for all the brilliant memories

  • I would give Ben a big hug. :(

  • Amazing scene... thanks for posting!

  • its when he says "because hes the only one who will have me" it breaks me up

  • When he said "the thing that only matters was already gone", does he talk about his daughter Alex? I'm not sure (sorry for my english)

  • @jodelleferlandfan1

Yes he is talking about Alex, but this scene also works at a deeper level.

I think most people will never really work out what this scene represents.

Ben, Jacob Illana and the Island in this scene are metaphors for other things.

  • @Cathain78 Yes, i see your point and i agree! Thanks for the answer!!!

  • @Cathain78

    What things??

  • @TheBaxxterrr

Bear in mind the background of the producers of this show, and that it's making analogies for various religious and philisophical ideas. Now substitute the characters for peoples / concepts (only for this scene).

    Jacob = God

The Island = Heaven / Kingdom of God

    Ben = The Jewish people

Alex = Their earthly kindgom / worldy power / temporal concerns

    Illana = The Christian people

    Locke = Satan

Watch it again now, bearing these in mind and it becomes something very poignant.

  • @Cathain78 jacob cant really be "god" if ben is "the jewish people"... i thought the jews were only blamed for jesus' death?

  • @you2be321

For Christians, Jesus was God incarnate.

So while God was not destroyed, his physical incarnation was killed.

  • Micheal Emerson deserves another Emmy for this scene alone

  • This scene just proves how amazing Michael Emerson really is!

  • i am seriously going to freak out if Michael Emerson does not get at least an emmy nomination!

  • Run, Ben, Run!! Michael Emerson is the best!! :D

  • I'll have you Ben!!!

  • This just breaks my heart :( I feel for Ben!!! I love him and would forgive him forever waaaaaaa!!!!! Great actor and great script and one great fucking show

  • John Locke must of been the single person to "dislike" this video...

  • @JayZeus7 IKR? This is one of the best scenes in LOST

  • @JayZeus7

We all know it's not John. :D

  • @JayZeus7 I hope you man the fake Locke...aka the Man in Black aka Smokey

  • @JayZeus7 No cause Locke forgives him.

  • @JayZeus7 WRONG!!... it was Locke, Man in Black, Christian, Yemi, Alex, Isabella, The Black smoke and Vincent... Vincent's just angry cos he didn't get enough screen time.

  • This scene was amazing... Michael Emerson has to be one of the best actors to have ever graced television. Like someone already said, only he could make you feel sorry for a horrible person like Ben.

  • Full goosebumps everytime I see this!

  • this is a great acted scene .

  • This seen is dynamite. Theirs like an explosion of emotion here.

  • Michael Emerson = Acting GOD!!!

  • I think Ben should be the new guardian of the Island---and before the hate, Jacob's a mama's boy who had a tiff and caused all this mess, so he's no better than Ben, but at least Ben admitted his mistakes, Jacob sat on his throne of power and cared little for the people he put in harms way, not even acknowledging their sacrifice.

  • Damn, this is impressive. "Because he's the only one that'll have me!" Damn, that's a tear jerker.

    Buy the DVDs!

  • Michael Emerson is such a great actor :D :D :D ...

  • GREAT SCENE. I love LOST for these moments.

  • it breaks my heart when he says : "...was already gone" and "he's the only one that'll have me....."

  • if michael emerson does not get that emmy, i am seriously going to scream. Agree if you think michael emerson deserves an emmy!

  • @csibatmanfan Hell yeah, man. Although, if someone else was to get the emmy, Terry O'quinn has my vote. The dude is on fire this season. Just look at the scene in the premiere where he describes Locke's last moments to Ben. Poignant stuff.

  • "Because he is the only one who will have me"

Brilliant line and amazing delivery. Argh!

  • with Terry O' Quinn, they are at the top of the actors from TV Show. Emerson is, omg, so so so unbelievable! I have never seen an actor like that . He's a genius;

  • First off i'm not by any means extremely religious, but its cool how there's a kind of confession and forgiveness of sins type of thing going on here. kind of like he was going to go with locke just because that was the only thing he thought he could do (like giving into sin and going with the devil). But then he confessed and asked for forgiveness, and was forgiven and accepted.

  • @Demock I'm with you there. Losing Alex, and everything that came after, was either going to be Ben's salvation or his doom. I think from here on (although there were hints when he hesitated to kill Penny) i think it's clear that Ben will be redeemed in the end. And how perfect is it that he lost his adopted daughter, killed Ilana's father-figure, and then she's the one who forgives him? Gives me goosebumps.

  • The way he says "Over her. All in the name of Jacob." is amazing.

  • His eyes at 1:02 break my heart. D*:

  • He should win a award just for this! This is by far the most amazing acting ever. So sad, so real. Iliana did a good job too, she looked like she was going to cry.

  • Amazing. I wish that all these horrible events were real so that this man could be real. Emerson is brilliant. He kinda sounds like kermit at 1:18 xD

  • Dude ; really ? Ben&Locke are my 2 favorite characters ever on Lost and I love when either of them act good ! :D

  • I burst into tears. Team Linus!

  • Oh, this is why I now ship Ben/Ilana. It probably won't happen on the show, but a girl can dream. Emerson is so wonderful. Agreed: another emmy please.

  • His performance in that scene alone should be enough to get him one more emmy.Lost is said to have changed television,Michael Emerson has changed television acting. There are a lot of great scenes on lost but this is the one you'll remember, because it goes deep into your soul and messes with it...and this is what acting is all about

  • lost has changed television i agree but also people expectations . People became more sensitive to the quality of details in a show and it's cleverness everything has to have some kind of explanation now. In my opinion the other show that made a difference at the time was the x-files. throghout the 90s . a show per decade . What's next ?

  • 'Because he is the only who'll have me"

OH, my heart is breaking for him! EMMY FOR MICHAEL EMERSON! SAY LOST IF YOU AGREE WITH ME!

  • man when i watch this on tv i started to cry and rewind this like 15 times just to hear that speech again. it move me very well

  • as soon as ben starts talking i start to cry :,( and the music just addssom much thumbs up to michael Giachanno

  • when he says "was already gone"

and "hes the only 1 who will have me"

    my heart just burst :(

  • Jesus, no wonder he won the emmy. This show has so many good actors, but Emerson is on another level altogether.

  • After she says she will have him and turns..Ben follows in a drunken daze of confusion. Unable to understand why she would have him.

    Beautiful.

  • This episode is full of great acting from the cast. Emerson especially.

  • This is heartwrenching. Ben is such a captivating character; definitely one of the best in LOST. Despite the horrid things he has done, you can't help but feel for him.

This brought tears to my eyes. :(

  • I get goosebumps and tears everytime!!!

  • After all the BS Ben has put everyone on the island through only a brilliantly gifted actor like Michael Emerson could make you want to reach out and hug Ben at that moment.

There is so much magic in his voice and eyes in this scene. I really hope that we get to see more of Michael Emerson in films, stage and tv. And of course I wouldn't mind seeing him on that Emmy stage giving out another acceptance speech. ;)

  • how he shakes his head at 1:34 when hes talking is amazing acting

  • HE NEEDS ANOTHER EMMY!!!!!

  • One of the most moving scenes I have ever seen on television.

  • Emerson is definitely the best actor on the show . . . yeah, some of the other characters are cooler and whatnot, but with every word he has me on the edge of my seat whether it be due to just how enthralled I am or because his voice drips with enticement . . . this is definitely the best scene to date.

  • **heart breaks**

  • Without a doubt one of LOST's best scenes EVER. Emerson is a god!

  • 2:19- "Because he's the only one that'll have me."

    Absolutely heartbreaking.

    Michael Emerson is astounding.
