I'm still crying from this. I have a few pet chickens, I thank them if they give me an egg and they get to catch bugs and graze whenever they feel like it. They are wonderful animals and not a single one should ever be treated like this. I can't sit here and do nothing. I have a little room left, I will try to find an organization in my area and even though I can't save them all, I can make a difference for 1 or 2 hens and have them join our little flock.
This actually brought me to tears. Every time I see battery hens, cooped up in such tiny cages in such disgusting conditions, I wonder how farmers can bear to keep these chickens in such a state. Obviously they are aware that they are causing these hens pain, so why don't they just stop?
@nominoms620 I agree with you 100%, however it's not necessarily the fault of the farmers. At least in America, the meat and egg industries keep the farmers constantly under their thumb. They regulate everything, including the way the hens are treated. You should watch Food Inc. It's a documentary about that sort of thing, and I learned a lot from watching it.
This is very sickening, Totally ashamed to be Human. We have started a new page on facebook called Free Range Humans, so if you want to join and let your friends on facebook know all about Battery Hens, please come and say hello.
All you rotten people who can't live without eggs or dairy make me sick. You are only eating bad cholesterol! Give those two things up and your body will thank you for it. GET A CLUE PEOPLE> Stop adding to the misery.
@EddieAlda We, the consumer are to blame. We want cheap prices, we want stuff in abundance, and we want it always available. To stop this, we need to be willing to pay more for the product: when you have fewer animals producing fewer items (eggs, milk, etc) it's more expensive to run. If you want humane egg collection, you need humans hand collecting the eggs: there's another price rise.
Keep your own hens if you can, if not, be willing to pay more and support the caring treatment of animals. :)
@DominionGalactica I haven't bought eggs in a long time. I'd rather boycott caged and free range. I basically stopped eating eggs in protest. People who think they are doing the right thing by switching to free range haven't a clue. Best bet if you must eat eggs is to find a friend who has chickens in their back garden. Until you have visited a factory farm and smelt the ammonia that the poor chickens have to breath all day long, you don't truly know their suffering. Fark humans! Go vegan.
@EddieAlda Yep, I didn't have enough characters to go into being wary of "free range" and "barn raised"; theyre treated just as badly.
I keep ex caged hens and it takes on average a year or so for them to regain their health and they still lay fine. It's so sad to get them fresh out of the cage, they cant walk, they cant roost, and they've never seen or felt grass before, or natural sunlight.
the truly free range hens eggs are more expensive, but well worth it.
how can someone throw away a hen that is still alive???? that is just f***en wrong, its funny that if someone mistreats a dog or cat, they go to jail, but in this case its ok because there chickens. im not saying that i dont care about dogs and cats, i am just giving an example
I used to work on a free range poultry farm and in someways its not much better than this, you're better off getting your own chickens if you want eggs...
That video was soul crushing, although it did have a happy ending for her. I have a backyard flock so I see how they behave naturally all the time; happy full of energy and very loving to each other. I could see the hopelessness in all those tortured angels through out the video. Thanks for showing the reality of factory farming. People can't help if they do not know what is happening to farm animals. At least there was a happy ending for one.
your vid is really good. it has all the points that people need to act on this act of disgusting cruelty. i'm only 13 and really want to put the people who work at the batteries should be kept in the condidtions in which the hens were kept in, and anybody else who has been cruel to any other kind of animal...
I think we should have a battery farm for all the sick people that did this! And when they die chuck them in the dustbin! i feel sorry for the chickens :( :'(
i am a 13 year old and i want to keep ex-battery hens in my garden but my parents wont let me but this video would encourage anybody to keep ex-batter hens great video
I've never bought cage eggs and went completely vegan 3 months ago. The only thing that surprised me is how uneventful it was, after an initial adjustment, not only do I not feel 'deprived' in any way, I actually LOVE my new diet and all the wonderful flavors and creative new dishes I enjoy. Bless your kind hearts...... I have so many tears after seeing this, what a beautiful video..... please don't ever stop helping them and congratulations on all that you do....bless your wondeful, loving hearts!!!
@Honeylushbubbles to be honest no farmer of any type of egg production cares unless they aren't producing eggs, I was an egg farmer once (free range!) and the things I saw I would not like to say, within a few months I couldn't stand it anymore and left... the only person who cared for those chickens while I was there was me. its so sad :(

Bless your heart. :) If everyone had a few backyard hens and a small vegetable garden, the world would be such a better place. I've kept chickens since 1995 and they are a joy everyday...the eggs are just a bonus.
Well, I think that those farmers need to be put in cages like that, with 4-5 in a cage, and be fed cheap food, and be kept like cheap money makers. lol

OMG!! I knew most of the sights shown on the video, but when I saw you rescue the Chook from the bin I was ashamed to be human! We have some ex-Batts and they are my Darlings!! After what they have been through it amazes me that they don't peck my face off! Now, I sit in the grass and suddenly find I am 'infested' with Cheeky Chickens sitting on my lap, shoulders, head. Battery farming cruelty makes me sick - the farmers DON'T have to BE CRUEL to feed us humans!!
This video could have really stirred people to action. I just wish it had mentioned how to aid in eradicating this type of cruelty. What percentage of chickens are raised like this. I only buy eggs that say specifically "raised without cages", free range hens could still be stuck in cages is what I have heard.

battery farming is disgusting and really should be made illegal. poor chickens who have suffering through all their short lives. Disgusting. Atleast that chicken being saved made me feel happy and lets hope more of the same. NO BATTERY AND YES TO FREE RANGE!!!

(yes, birds do dream, its a fact)We might be getting a couple of battery hens soon. When I saw you rescue Hope the chicken I cried with happiness.
No go free range. You can't change anything by ignoring it. Supermarkets only relate to what's selling. The only thing that will change this is the pound in your pocket.
I cannot take credit for this hen rescue. I merely took various pics and video footage and assembled the video. The hen Hope did make it to a great life where she got to roam and lie in the sunshine and grass. To help, only buy cage/cruelty free eggs.
I have just buried one of my ex-batt chickens today and I just needed to come and see Hope to remind me why I need to keep on doing what I do for my Cheeky Chickens. Corriander died a premature death due to Egg Peritonitis - the most common cause of death amongst Battery Hens. Despite our best efforts with antibiotics etc the poor girl was just so poorly. But she did at least have the chance to feel the sunshine, scratch round the garden, dig up a few of my favourite plants!! =D
It fills me with disgust that the human race is responsible for something as apalling as this. How can people (and I use the term loosely) do this to innocent animals so that eggs cost a few quid cheaper? Brilliant video, I just wish it would get a few more views. @HuckleberryCat Free-range, cage-free chickens don't even necessarily get to go outside, and they're still slaughtered early, when their egg production drops off. Plus, in a lot of places it's still legal to debeak them. Get your own chickens or better yet, stop eating eggs.
I personally disagree with that. Obviously, it is better not to eat meat at all than to eat meat treated like that, but I think it is perfectly ok to eat meat if it has been killed humanely and has lived a good life. That is the most important thing.
We rescued some battery hens and they're the best darn layers we have. People take where their food comes from for granted. Battery farming is oh too common and it's sick. I felt so sorry for that chicken stuck in the bin of dead chickens, I bet she knew they were dead and .. well it's just absolutely awful.
hey isn't that called animal cruelty and doesn't the law say that you can't do animal cruelty..right..well god bless you for doing the right thing..unknown person.
its really sad what hens have to put up with most people dont know what happens to these poor souls, i keep hens and i belive i give them the best life they could ask for, it brings tears to my eyes to watch your true videos of this cruelty that is totally selfish and really un called for, why is there the need for such greed in our world no animal deserves to be treated this way
thank you chicken saver for saving hope :)

UnicornzRus 3 years ago 6
@UnicornzRus Okay organic is NOT better. Organic is much worse.
Organic doesn't mean free-range it just means no pesticides; herbicides; or antibiotics.
The animals on a free-range farm can't have their illnesses treated because it takes away the organic certification.
Free range eggs are only so good as they still need to be debeaked to be certified.
I'm sorry but really the only way to help is not putting your money into a business based on exploitation.

'killed humanely'? you must be jocking!
what is humane about killing?!
All the "food" with animal products contains cruelty.
Yeah, it is very easy to disagree while you still consume animal products.. You're not the one being tortured!

We rescued some battery hens and they're the best darn layers we have. People take where their food comes from for granted. Battery farming is oh too common and it's sick. I felt so sorry for that chicken stuck in the bin of dead chickens, I bet she knew they were dead and .. well it's just absolutely awful.

its really sad what hens have to put up with most people dont know what happens to these poor souls, i keep hens and i belive i give them the best life they could ask for, it brings tears to my eyes to watch your true videos of this cruelty that is totally selfish and really un called for, why is there the need for such greed in our world no animal deserves to be treated this way
