Thank you, thank you a brilliant video, you made this so easy for me. I actually used this method of casting on but did not realise it was called 'cable cast on method' but what a great to teach people the different stitches. I will certainly use this again
thank you for the clear, concise and effective tutorial.....So many patterns call for this particular cast-on method but until now I have never quite "gotten" it. Thanks again!

Hi, I've noticed you not replying to comments here, hope to hear from you soon about if you have a closed fabric video for a scarf. I will be using the cable casting.
I really like this cable casting, what video can I use for a closed fabric scarf? Which is the video for the square in this video, the center part other than the cable casting edge?
@txcrafty2 The center part of the square she's holding is plain garter stitch. You just knit every row. I'm sure you could find a video by searching for garter stitch.
Great video! Very clear and easy to understand. Wasn't too fast or too slow or too repetitive, which drives me bananas. Your video was perfect. Thank-you for making it. Now I can confidently start that ribbed beanie my husband asked for :o)
hi #VIDEOPOSTERID#, check out stream episodes (dot) net to be able to enjoy full episodes as well as movies considering that youtube wouldn't permit these kind of videos.
Thanks for putting these how-to videos out there for us more Visual Learners. Without these little how to vids I'd never be able to pick up knitting! (Very jealous of those who can learn from those how to books on knitting!)
i really liked the middle part of your explanation but i think that you seriously got carried away at the end when swapping left to right needle ! TOO FAST on the last bit !!!
My first time doing the cable cast-on, i normally do the knot cast-on. I found mine turned out really tight. You're an awesome teacher and I like the color yarn that you chose, it's really easy to see. I think I'll stick to the knit cast-on, but I love the edge that this creates in the end. Thanks!!!
you are an amazing teacher and I have learnt so much from your vids. Can you explain what it means to "knit in front and back of each stitch"? I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
this was so helpful. i sat in front of my computer with my knitting and cast on along with it. first time i'd done a cable cast-on and it came out perfect! thank you.
I like that the focus is clear and you assume that we already know how to make a slip knot. Good that you compare this method to the knit cast on, as well as showing how the cast on looks several rows later, with the stretchiness, or not, in this case. Very good. Thank you.
Thank you for being so clear with your instruction. Many of the videos posted here are difficult in their own way however you made this very easy. I am knitting with circular needles for the first time. I've been using straight needles for many years but am currently working on a project that requires circulars. I am assuming the cable cast on is the same no matter what style of needlel .
hi,i dont know why..but..when i cast on like 20 at the beginning ,by the time i get to the end ,it ends up having like 50 casted on and when i pull the finishing scarf off,it turns into an arch shape ?=((
Hmmmm...a knitting mystery. There are many possible reasons as to why your knitting isn't turning out as you would like it. I would hazard a guess and say that you are picking up extra stitches as you knit, perhaps in between knit stitches, or if you're changing between knit and purl stitches, you might be forgetting to bring the yarn to the back or to the front and you would end up with extra stitches (plus holes) that way. But it's really hard to say without seeing what you're doing.
hey, i was just wondering if you could make a video on how to knit on circular needles cause i'm wanting to make a hat, but i need to do it on circular needles...
Thanks for your comment; I'll put a circular needle tutorial on the list of things to do. At the top of the hat you'll have to switch to double-pointed needles, so I'll put up a tutorial on that too. Happy knitting. :-)
Thank you. Very clear video.

Thankyou! I found this video very helpful compared to other videos where the camera is facing the knitter and it's harder to understand.

I was trying to learn to do the cable cast on by looking at diagrams, but that was too confusing. This is much better and clearer. Thanks!

You assumed correctly! Casting on is the same for straight needles, circular needles and double-pointed needles.
