Gov't is the entity that caused unemployment by destroying the dollar, taxing income, growing and creating too many regulations. It bailed out monopolies it prefers. The 'record profits' are provided by the government in the first place - those banks wouldn't even EXIST if there were no bail outs, and economy would have been restructuring and healing, but that requires drastic reduction in gov't spending and taxes and regulations and subsidies. I am merely saying that if the big corporations to continue to get massive bonus increases, not get taxed, and have preferential treatment from government, why not cut them off from the source of money (middle-class consumers). Furthermore, debt to income ratio continues to increase in the US, illustrating that people are still spending credit without capital.

@nett103 But that doesn't really work, though. In order for people to have jobs, they must sell their company's product, which means someone has to be materialistic enough to buy the product. Granted, people have not been very smart about using their purchasing power, so I would agree that there needs to be a slight shift over to saving. My point, though, is that there needs to be a fire. The thing that needs to change is we need to be in control of the fire instead of the rich.

There's a growing trend for people to spend via credit, without any capital, which is reminiscent to the sub-prime mortgage fiasco. We are a throw away society just as manufactures & banksters want us to be. They make products last a finite amount of time and then slam out a new product, which we buy with credit, thinking we have to because of media & societal expectations.

Gov't is the entity that caused unemployment by destroying the dollar, taxing income, growing and creating too many regulations. It bailed out monopolies it prefers. The 'record profits' are provided by the government in the first place - those banks wouldn't even EXIST if there were no bail outs, and economy would have been restructuring and healing, but that requires drastic reduction in gov't spending and taxes and regulations and subsidies. Drastic.

It has regulations up the wazoo, it has FINRA and FDIC, it has FHA and it has all the unelected officials coming up with their own take on regulations in various departments. The financial interest is in direct conflict with their job to regulate so that needs to be adjusted. The deregulation under reagan, clinton and bush have caused this shit storm we're currently in. But ultimately, these guys control the game and that means if you start winning all that will happen is that you'll change the rules.
