The sound with AAC format and sound setting at 6 on the i8910 HD is very nice. I love this phone. If you're lucky, it comes with an awesome stand as well. :]

The reason why the audio was so bad when using the phone was because of the old firmware you have on the device. The newer firmware uses aac audio recording and its much much better, have a look on the internet and you'll see.

Yes it will work, but you won't have 3G. You can still send and recieve email, sms, mms, and surf the web. If I was you, i wouldn't get this phone because it's $800 tag. Wait until the end of the year for Other phones that are capable of HD playback. I heard that the HTC LEO will have HD playback and a 4.3inch capacitive screen (identical to iphone). And i'm sure it will come to att.

The issue with sound recording is well known and well documented all over the internet.
