Its William Orbit whom she was dating at the time..he asked her to do the vocals and was surprised she sang as well as she did and her career was off...

Oh my.. I made a right turn...its ok.. you tell me I will eat things familiar and things raping me...you seem to know and so do I....why are you rubbing down with Crisco...you seem to know...on the left side of my head....the demons o0nly come from the left side of my head...thru filtered hell.
I would't say he "hired" her—they formed a group called Spill a couple of years before Strange Cargo 3 came out, but only released one single under that name; the album they recorded together was eventually issued as Orton's Japan-only debut Superpinkymandy. Point being their work together wasn't just her coming in to do W0's bidding.
And FYI, if anyone is fortunate to own the original vinyl 12" of this track, the Underwater mix by Underworld is theee sickest. It's the only mix I always played out in the early to mid 90's. It's too bad it was only released on limited vinyl, as far as I know.
The e-trip mention is interesting, because theres a definite string-torch-dance motif to one of the effects going on behind beth in the video. This song is good to walk while listening to at night.
I love William Orbit!!! This song is like an "E" trip... only without actually taking any "E". this song lets your mind free...................ENJOY!!!! Thanks for posting great musicians that get very little recognition !!!!
FYI, this IS a William Orbit track. It is off the album titled Strange Cargo 3, one of a series of albums by William Orbit with the same title. Not a "band" named Strange Cargo as inferred, and not a Beth Orton song as inferred.
William Orbit has produced some of the greatest electronic artists for several decades including Madonna and Nitzer Ebb, and featured many talents on his personal behalf, and under his art direction.
this song has a sacred beauty that makes me feel the power of innocence again more than feel it takes me there not an illusion it facilitates a euphoric metamorphosis and transmits a secret divinity if i could perform anything for god this would be the one alas it makes me sad i cant be there but it carries the message that that doesnt matter --- it is even hopeful
Spooky mix on northern exposure was the mistakes that shaped progressive house. Sound like a time when there was no template. God the beat is shit on this original! sounds like a bad pop tune! One last thing to blush spookies face is the fact that the bass doesnt come in till about 3-4 mins into the track. This would be the point normally that I would have kept a finger up to friends repeating "wait" over and over. The bass would drop and I would let people talk again!
Beth Orton, is one of those few people who can carry whatever style is thrown at her 'cause her voice is so unique.

I really like this song, and Beth Orton in general...but man, she can not dance.

May be a year-old comment, but it should be noted that Beth Orton and William Orbit co-wrote this song, and it's Beth Orton's voice in the song.

What about a Credit for William Orbit?
Why it isn't there?
rtmnmk 1 year ago
This is William Orbit's track. Why is Beth Orton being credited? She sang a simple loop that's used only in the last minutes of a 7 minute track.

William Orbit wrote this and hired her to speak the lines on it. While recording, she started singing some of the lines instead.
