@rounick Please... dont say that we live a dark age. A Dark age was the Middle Age, with no freedom, no humanrights, no comunications, no medicine...etc. Now, despite the political and economic problems, we are living a colourful present, were human rights are asured, with amazing comunications and freedom... with education!!! As Dimitris showed to us.... keep in mind those floating stones showing the beauty of humankind... and the power we have to build our future.
Beijing hired a British guy called Mark Fisher for the 2008 opening and closing ceremonies in Beijing. He was their Director of Production and he came up with several ideas for the opening and closing. He was also the one that came up with the idea for that amazing globe and his company also created it. You know, the globe with the performers all over it.
Zhang Zimou copied not most but some of Papaioannou ideas. For example the spark from solar clock, two athlets at closing ceremony and some another. So Zimou did copy. This is China what do you expect. But the idea with paper roll was perfect.
Papaioannou must feel honoured since Zhang Zimou copied most of his ideas, but still Beijing presented a commodified version of Athens opening ceremony!
This is hectic

It's been 7 years and still watching this makes me shiver. The human genius is maybe the only thing that keeps my spirit up in this dark age.
