I faced a women in a Judo competition once, and I barely beat her. She was twice as hard as any guy I have faced and half my size. I simply could not throw her no matter how hard I tried.
A friend and I watched you at the nats up in Auckland a few years ago. I witnessed you throw someone and have an armlock ready in mid air. It was well controlled and amazing.
Thank you for this upload. I'm actually a BJJ fella, but I find it inconceivable that people would argue with a godan about such things.
@DJJerac udo has men and women competing on the international stage, only women were added in the 80's to Olympic level and WORLD CHAMPS. WOMEN ARE ALLOWED TO COMPETE in gender based contests. in juniors below 10 years in NZ girls often fight boys equally, without regard
to gender. If we have large divisions genders are split off more because the boys dont like getting beaten by the girls. I sense some unresolved issues here in your past?
@chchjudoschool@chchjudoschool omg... u don't need 2 explain urself 2 me. i bet the women kick's ur ass u nerd. when did crybaby's officialy start 2 compete?
@chchjudoschool@chchjudoschool omg... u don't need 2 explain urself 2 me. i bet the women kick's ur ass u nerd. when did crybaby's officialy start 2 compete?
@chchjudoschool Fair point. Where I train, men and women often fight each other unofficially. It's no big deal as far as any of us are concerned regardless of who wins.
That's because all judo is noob compared to its parent jujitsu...lol;
If BJJ want they can fight in judo Olympics and worlds judo tournaments welcome their membership to prove their superiority, ohhh I dont see anyone???
@chchjudoschool well i wouldn't agree 100 % to that! howeever i love bjj more than any martial art that i know of. However i am training judo right now beacuse i don't have a bjj dojo around. And i am going to compete in judo on saturday. do you know what that means? It means bjj against judo. beacuse i am a bjj fighter.
If you training Judo and BJJ and judo comes from jujitsu, and BJJ comes from judo, then you represent BJJ, a little bit of and Judo, and to a lesser extent Japanese Jujitsu...wow. Enjoy....I dont think it's so much who you fight for but more what your manner is, & how you fight. Good Luck there.
@chchjudoschool yes that is correct! however i belivie i represent bjj more than judo, and my passion is far greater in bjj than in judo. I mainly train judo to get better in standing for the sake of my bjj skills! the more you know the better you get! ;)
@takidabossen Cut him some slack. It doesn't say anything about BJJ in the title. So it's not really fair to compare it to BJJ. Look at a ton of BJJ vids and you'll see throws that Judoka and Wrestlers would call noob.
@sgtjonesiniraq first of all of course you can compare bjj and judo, both grappling arts!
It doesn't matter if it doesn't says bjj in the title, i still thinks the transitions in judo are inferior, you can begin by investigate on the numbers of techniques in both judo and bjj. You will then see judo is inferior in the number of techniques, and my experience in both arts tells me bjj got way more efficient transitions!
Just because I am showing basic techniques that doesnt mean I cant do advanced techniques.
This is a teaching video prompt. The video has its place. BJJ is a subset of Judo, I have done 45 years judo and trained around the world many years experience, many jujitsu clubs are weak. The fact that the BJJ is competitive is a credit to Judo teaching, randori is Kano sensei invention. It makes BJJ and Judo great.
@chchjudoschool yes it is very possible that you can do advanced technique, but is it very possible that you can do more techniques than judo can have? in that case i would say your skills are not only from judo. There are over 2000 techniques only in groundgame in bjj.
yes there are many jiu jitsu clubs that isn't good just with everything else, after all it is a new modern martial art.
@takidabossen but i belivies there are alot of thing with judo i don't like, for an example, standing up in competitions to quickly, it is way to easy to win by being a coward in my opinion.
@takidabossen I didn't say you can't compare them, just that it's not fair to compare them. Most Judoka spend 90% of their training on throws. I wouldn't expect them to have smooth transitions on the ground. Especially since their competitions allow very little ground activity. But if you look at their transitions with throws...it's impressive stuff. Grips, uchi komi, tai sabaki are all superior in Judo compared to MOST bjj schools. There are always exceptions of course.
I've seen this guy a bjj vs judo submission competition when a bjj guy tried to submit him with a ankle lock and made a gesture with the hand like it's nothing:)))that was funny:))
@f9hunter before joining, sit back and take a look at how the sensei teaches the class or if there's like 1 free week, try it before signing up. It's like buying a car without test driving it...
Ask your future sensei if he/she concentrates more on the Sport side of Judo or Combat side (more self-defense) or both. Make sure that he/she practices at least 2 full days out of every 5 days newaza because these days some USA dojos practice little newaza and lack the ground grappling skills.
@chchjudoschool First of all... nice video! I do agree that a Judoka must move, attack and make progress or the ref will stand you up, but that's the Sport side of Judo. Combat or self defense side Judo utilized more guard IMO. In most Judo dojos many do not utilize the guard much and in a way that's bad because they're concentrated on the Sport side.. Good thing my nephews dojo utilized the guard as much as BJJ guys but that's only because the sensei is also a Sambo coach.
perhaps, I was shifting my hips around to a better angle to counter their bridge, I dont mind bridges, ride em out...
my secret is to pull out the arm before this stage while they are still all bent over if possible in the roll, avoids the whole scenario where they can escape. It has its problems...
I did 3 armlocks on the prelims video I recently posted, I lost one but got it back.
Great work. I'm assuming you eventually got the full video to upload over at the link to '26 armlocks in 1.45' cos that now plays out in full. I actually prefer this version, without the soundtrack... just makes it a little easier to concentrate on the application of the techniques. If you've still got the first half, sans music, maybe you got upload that again too. Or I could always turn the volume down ;) (And yes, this is a tat hyprocritical from a bloke who's uploaded 2 music videos!)
Thanks, It's in 2 halves, but it is all there. I want to reshoot some of the techniques due to criticisms... ;-(
and add neil eckersley's tobi juji roll and a few more juji entries.
Fair comment about the soundtrack. I feel the same. I thought naomi screamed once or twice (for theatrical effect) may have scared some newbies... they might not understand
Oh yeah, it's certainly all there. In fact, it's there one and half times :) At the other link the entire 3.55 plays out. My only slight disappointment is that means we can only see your Ude Gatame through to your Yoko Sankaku Ude Garami with the music... whereas here we get the latter half music free.
I see where you're coming from regarding newbies reaction to Naomi's 'performance' but, speaking as something of a noob myself, I found this considerably more informative and real....
Do you guys train with the jujitsu club in town with Julian? Looks almost similiar but without leg and ankles getting snapped off and all the other stuff
As both uke and tori are both competition players and not kata exponents, these techniques have been demonstrated with competition in mind, that is why you see some techniques done from different positions.I was the uke in this, and am giving away 30 kilos in body weight, that may be why I seem to be struggling!!The techniques were definately being applied also, so that maybe why they don't look so pretty.
Thank you for the demonstration, however, I would like to see a smoother and more formal demonstration, please. Both the uke and tori seem to be struggling with the technique. I have observed other techniques done on You Tube but have not seen the proper way to demonstrate. Have we forgotten to learn the disciplines and tradition of Judo?
What would you like to see? Greeting at start/finish? I demonstrated most waza slowly for recognition. (& uke had sore shoulder) I am not struggling with most of the techniques, I may seem to be, but just trying to demonstrate without hurting uke, that is visible sometimes .
I faced a women in a Judo competition once, and I barely beat her. She was twice as hard as any guy I have faced and half my size. I simply could not throw her no matter how hard I tried.

We have mobility rules and progress has to be made so you cannot stall someone;

@f9hunter
Theres nowhere as much guard work as in BJJ but the attitude is different;
Judoka must attack & make progress otherwise the referee stands them up in contest & BJJ seems to have a strong defensive component from the guard.
