Dealing with people leaving being different and trying to find people who'll accept me like this has been a pain while growing up. Getting better though.
I suppose trying to figure out where life is taking me is a bit of a growing pain. It feels sometimes like the boots I will wear one day - owning a house, having a job, raising a family - are much, much too big, but I hope that I will grow over time with experience and time to fill them.
my growing pains are worrying about the future, I have no idea what I want to do when I finish eduction which scares me a lot. both my brothers seem to know exactly why they are doing and have known since they were little. I just have random options not even mildly related..
also boy issues, I am getting to the age where all my friends are getting boyfriends all loved up and happy. and then there's me.
my growing pains are that im almost through university and have matured quite a bit. but a lot of my "friends" still act like immature teenagers to the point that sometimes i dont really feel like hanging out with them. Quite lonely at times..
i always used to assume that i would end up living in a flat with my best friend, find the perfect person and eventually live with them get married have kids and have a wonderful life but as ive grown up ive realised that in orderto get something like that i have to try hard it it may not work out that way in the end so i have to prepare myself for these things not to happen so smoothly.
Definitely wanting to grow up too fast, but being worried about doing so. So making sure to live childhood as much as you can and not grow up too fast, despite wanting too. Finding a balance I guess you could say.
I get compared to my siblings all the time! I hate it when i'm worried about work or something because I always get "well your sister did it" I AM NOT MY SISTER!
Bridie shoul so do like a beauty channel!!! I was like wow!!! :D
i found the most uncomfortable part of growing older was developing my own ideas and opinions. not that it was in anyway a bad thing, just that at the time i personally found it super difficult to relay them in any sort of understandable fashion without getting really worked up about it.
Thank you so much for making these videos, they really do help (:. I'm almost 15, and everyone knows me as 'that weird girl'. Just being myself and enjoying it.
I agree with Bridie. Since I was 8 I wanted to be older. I looked at how fun it seemed to be 20 years old and how mature and beautiful all the girls that age were. Now that I'm here I know that my time wishing to be older wasn't wasted. Being 20 is amazing and I absolutely love all the trials and fun times that come along with it! It's the best time of life (at least for me so far)!
Lovely video, Lindsay. It's so true that these pains don't go away as you get older. The difference is that our failures, successes and general experiences as we mature help make us better equipped to deal with these things when they arise as adults :)
I feel as though you can see into my brain! I'm 16 and get my GCSE results in three days, I feel all of the things you raised in the video.
You can definitely tell you're a primary school teacher in your tone of voice, although you've definitely loosened up a bit since you started making videos.
My life really hasn't gone the way the I had predicted, but it's just as good this way round :) I have a twin sister who, when you compare us in certain ways, is a lot more successful than me. But I just remember that I may not be as good as her in some respects, I will be successful in my own way. And my friends and family love us both for who we are. No matter how our lives turn out :)
@patton0008 She actually apologized for them not have bloomed. :D I liked that, I was also going to write the same as you before I saw the second part of the sentence. I also love your gladioli, Lindsay!
Sweet video :] I know teens who come from families with strong religious faith. It seems to help them greatly, because they have faith in the future and a belief that they are unconditionally loved by their creator. There is so much wisdom in the world's religious texts. In my experience, such wisdom could help teens to understand themselves and their place in the world.
Yeah, what Bridie says. I think I was about 12,13, when the veil of childhood seemed to lift and I felt ready to engage in adult conversations. They just regarded me as a little know-it-all, though. Very annoying. That taught me to treat kids as full human beings, not some sort of cute halflings.
@jbdazen Agreed! I try my best to talk to kids almost like I talk to adults, especially since they might have something really interesting or insightful to say. I feel as though I can't afford to miss out on quality thinking, no matter where it comes from.
I've never had bad results in any exam before, i mean not any exam that mattered, I'm not an A* student but I've always got what I wanted. I got my AS results back the other day and I've realised I'm going to have to re-evaluate the time I spend on school work and probably have to drop some of the other things that are important to me, that's a really suckish part of growing up - realising you can't always do everything you want to! :/
I remember breaking down and crying a few times when I was just about to finish university and move really, really far from home for the first step in my career. I'd never felt so completely inadequate before. Now things are fine, but some big steps are horribly jarring.
All the things you mentioned are things I relate to and dont like to think about (esp. Leaving friends, the future (although that thought is exciting at times, that feeling is usually overshadowed by being scared)
I think a lot of wher you mentioned in this video is what some people are really talking about when they hit their early 20s and worry about becoming "Old" Its not age that worries them its the responsablities and expectations of having reached a certain age that worries them. Its never been a big problem for me but I'm not immune to those feelings. Thanks for the video, thought provoking as ever.
I used to have really awful physical growing pains as I grew up, as well as the emotional growing pains. So many of the things said in this video relate to me as I grew up from child to teen and now into my twenties (though I'm only 20). Thank you for this!
As for your question, I have absolutely no idea. I'm really scared to start high school and become an adult. I think my parents being so supportive and caring really helps, though.
@xxs0rryxforxyouxx you are not alone! that's exactly how i felt when i was 13. now i'm 19 and i still try to stop the aging process^^ but i just try to stay a child inside.it works!
The hardest part about growing up is when you suddenly realize that you're an adult and can't get away with the dumb things you used to be able to do as easily. And that you have to start really applying yourself to school and learning to drive and looking for colleges and filling out applications. (Can you tell what I've spent my summer doing?)
I loved to see my babies learning to crawl and walk. So those cute babies in your video made me smile. I do think though that babies have it easier than teenagers, because they don't feel embarrassed in the least when they fall on their faces.
This video couldn't have come at a better time; I'm going off to college in four days, and this week has been hell as far as saying goodbye to friends and such. I'm not so much nervous for the next four years, though, as I am the years that'll come after them; getting a real job, my own apartment, etc. I feel like the same child I've been for 18 years thrown into the world of adulthood :p
So thank you for making me realize it's normal to feel anxious, but that the world will go on. :)
I'm an only child and I was raised like I had lots and lots of siblings. I feel that my parents aren't proud of me and I feel like I'm always doing something wrong. And I try to be a good kid... I really try... And when I want to talk with them they won't even listen to me, because they think they're doing the right thing. So yeah. Sometimes I feel alone.
My parents are very strict... I don't drink alcohol, I never go out with my friends, I hate parties and I'm one of the best students in my school but when I get a bad grade they are really harsh and make me cry a lot. They think it's unacceptable the fact that I'm not perfect....
I always had trouble feeling like I was fitting in when I was growing up (especially in my teen years and even sometimes today) also I was a but worrier and thought constantly about my future and whether or not it would all work out
I think think the hardest for me, so far, is the thinking about my immediate future: How am I going to get a job? A house? Do things on my own...It seems so easy for other people, but I know it isn't all that easy.
i fell the same as Bridie, being the same age as her i cant wait to get older but people like my parents are always saying things like "believe me you say that now but when you do get older you will want to be the age you are now again" and i dont think i would wanna be this age again really i mean its such a rubbish age! :L but at the same time i get where they are coming from
And yes, being college-age especially, I think there are a lot of big life decisions to make about your career and it can be pretty stressful and overwhelming at times, but it can also be loads of fun doing spontaneous things with college friends. I think as you get older, and get a bit more experience, you gain some perspective, and recognize that life will always be a bit of a roller coaster, so you should get used to that and learn to handle it better.
As I've gotten a little bit older (I'm 20,) it has been interesting for me to see things from a parent's perspective sometimes, and how a child might struggle with some situation, the parent is also dealing with the stress of that too, as well as trying to help their kids out with that situation. We do expect our parents to act more mature and handle things better than we do as young adults, and take initiative, but when they disappoint us, we have to believe they are doing their best.
I trick about growing up is that you don't recognize or appreciate all of the moments that make you become your older self until you're a little bit older.
Yeah, I can definitely relate to the part about trying to be myself. It feels like everyone is so judgmental, especially in a small town, and I'm scared I might make a wrong move or say something controversial.
Sometimes I feel like I have to choose between having friends or being the real me.
all very well saying we want bridie to have a youtube channel but we were just talking about being overshadowed by siblings, imagine trying to follow charlieissocoollike
i wanted to submit a comment with my thoghts about growing pains..but it turned out to be TOO long..so i sent it as a message...this leads me to a question..do you read all of your messages? :)
I think as a teenager it's important to have people like you addressing the fact that growing up can be really difficult sometimes, but everyone goes through it.
A thing about growing up as a teenager in secondary school is all of the school work! It's getting harder and harder and it's terrifying to think I've got all my A levels next year, GCSEs were hard enough! :'D but if you always look on the bright side of things and see them as challenges rather than work, then they don't seem so bad :}
Hey Lindsay! Loved the video and the way you've been running the channel since its inception. I see where Charlie gets that ability to express thoughts from.
In summation of all I have to say about this video, I think falling nine times and rising ten is an important part of learning to live, just as crawling and walking are.
you look great lilly. I like your positive energy that you always have. I had pretty miserable school life and still some stuffs going on. issues that i dealt with was pretty big. and unfortunately, some of them are still going on. but what you gonna do. you gotta make the best of whatever we got. right?
When I had a growth spurt I didn't have any pains, but when I stopped growing I noticed I had small stretch marks on my back just below my arms. I was never over weight or pregnant (I'm a guy).
I find it hard to find my place. It took me 4 years at secondary school to find a way of being comfortable with myself, then the next year I had to leave it to go to college. At University I found my place again, but graduated and employed I need to find something for myself that isn't just my job...
I remember the first time I realized that my parents couldn't solve every problem in my life or even in theirs, and that they're just people who've made their own mistakes and have their own regrets :) I didn't like it, but I think I appreciated them a lot more after that and it changed the way I saw things in my own life.
I've had them since I was like 8

@AligatormonkeyYAY sometimes I feel that way too.

I think as a teenager it's important to have people like you addressing the fact that growing up can be really difficult sometimes, but everyone goes through it.

Speaking of growing up... I've had fun watching your channel grow up. Good from the start, but in so many subtle ways getting better all the time.

A thing about growing up as a teenager in secondary school is all of the school work! It's getting harder and harder and it's terrifying to think I've got all my A levels next year, GCSEs were hard enough! :'D but if you always look on the bright side of things and see them as challenges rather than work, then they don't seem so bad :}

Hey Lindsay! Loved the video and the way you've been running the channel since its inception. I see where Charlie gets that ability to express thoughts from.
In summation of all I have to say about this video, I think falling nine times and rising ten is an important part of learning to live, just as crawling and walking are.
Thanks for your time, and keep up the videos!
