  • its meant to be 3500rpm, then you dump the clutch and floor it. not find the biting point asif your having driving lessons. seriously, that was a useless start

  • I had one of these exact models a while back and it blew up after a month. There was so much wrong with it but damn I still miss that car.

I think I will buy another one but a word of advice to anyone shopping around: for the love of God, pay a little extra for a good example. The cheap ones (like mine) invariably have something seriously wrong with them and you will end up forking out the cash one way or another. Or have to watch them burn to a crisp. Yeah.

  • I'm fairly certain from the 83 model to the 84 model they didn't change too many components, so why for the love of all that is holy did you have to change into third to hit 60? honestly are you afraid of braking something? I've had my 944 for 5 years now and it can take a beating! don't be afraid of braking anything the engine was built to last unlike a Ford, chevy, or other POS car companys Porsche has a testimony of excellence in their cars!

  • Not so great of a shift into second, I personally would have redone the video.

  • @JakeManD Did you read the description? MAF was shot.

  • @Angrycodplayer yes, but that doesn't have anything to do with his clutch-work.

  • @Angrycodplayer Besides, don't you have anything better to do on Christmas?

  • turbo does it in like 5 secs or something like that

  • as much as i hate to say negatives about porsche 944s, you made that car look really bad. what was with that truly awful start were you nearly staalled the poor thing, and what was with that absolute fail og a gear change? that car could easily beat 8 seconds if you did it bloody properly.

  • the speedo in my 84 944 is off some compared to friends cars, i even put a new cable and cluster in. whats odd is the cable connects to the front left tire, not the trans, so its not exactly accurate around turns...

  • Video*

  • Well ur 09 5 spd ranger isn't in this video Huh ,,,, ill do a top speed bus when I find a long enuf stretch

  • haha my names karl

  • My 09 FX4 5spd Ranger does 0-60 in 6.9 secs w Superchips Tuner , catback exhaust and K&N CAI. Nice to have torque :]

  • @akribela lol a car from 83 with a 4cly engine stock. does that in 1 second less... oh and it can take a corner without rolling over.

  • @Inuyashatg98 a 944 doesnt do 0-60 in 6.9 secs ?, a 944 turbo can , and by the way I happen to like 944's . I didnt say anything to trash 944's. Whats your problem Dude?

  • @akribela no, it doesnt, which if you read i clearly stated that.

  • @Inuyashatg98 which 4-cylinder car from '83, stock, gets to 60 mph in 5.9 secs?

  • @grenade350 the 944 turbo's.

  • @Inuyashatg98 the 944 Turbo wasn't around until model year 1986. I don't see how you didn't know that when you're ostensibly a fan of this car.

  • @grenade350 ok, so from 86. still its a great car. why are you so against it? and if so then why are you even watching videos about a car you dont like? seem's counter-productive on your part.

  • @Inuyashatg98 Thank you for your concern for the efficiency of my time expenditure, but actually the more logical possibility is what happened - I do in fact like the car, thus I looked up the video. But you were describing something that didn't exist, not this car. And calling the '86 944 Turbo just "a 4 cyl car" - no mention of the turbo - is like only mentioning the first 4 cylinders of a Camaro's v-8 engine - the engine has more than just that adding to the power made so it's a fake-out.

  • @grenade350 well in the first place this comment was not even for you to reply to. and i dont have to explain myself to you. a 4cly is a 4cly even if you put a turbo on it. sorry if i got the year wrong i posted this over a month ago when i just started to get into these cars, go troll peoples comments somewhere else please.

  • I get 7.2 on a stop watch in my 1988 924S

  • @w8ets that sounds about right for a 924s, they were slightly quicker in 0-60 and in the 400 meter runs due to less weight... i can't remember how much exactly but thats why

  • @w8ets youre special

  • thinking of buying one, any opinions points or tips that you guys can offer

  • 0-100 (0-60 for mph) in 8 seconds too with a 1.4 TSI VW ......

or it's the driver american (american and clutch = broken xD)

  • This is Porsche 924...

  • @Dzaa88 no that is a 944, an early 83-85.0/// midway thru 85 is when they redesigned the dash.....

  • Sweet Car!

  • anychance you could do a topspeed run for youtube???

  • i do 7.8 in my 944s2

  • hey nice 944... but i think ur shifting the wrong way i can hear it trying to push

  • has to be the driver cause my porsche does it in 6.589 sec *tisk tisk*

  • lovin the fail of a gear change

  • Interesting choice to fit a later style wheel on a 944/1

  • You've got a porsche.. I've got a 94 corvette... Let's race! And don't make me say I told u so when u find out that the vette getsem wet haha... Jk

  • @bighunt08 83 944 NA and 94 Vette are apples and oranges. lol Now the 944T is more apples to apples and will stay with and beat most vettes. I used to love smoking my two buddies Vettes; 1 has an 84 "missfire" and the other a late 80's with Lt1, richmond 6 speed etc.

  • Someone mentioned a '91 Mazda Miata... not familiar with that name (I guess it's in the US as they branded them differently - I'm guessing its a MX-5) but my previous cheap and cheerful Mazda 323F GTI (1.8L) recorded similar times and cost £400! GREAT little car, looks similar to the 944 with the pop up headlights, large rear window and black spoiler. Very reliable too.

944's will need a lot of work, but parts are surprisingly cheap.

Dont pay less than £2.5k for one if you dont want trouble

  • I clocked my 1984 one at 7.9 seconds last time, although before I had 7.6 and then 8.2. Meh - probably need more accurate timing but they do lose a bit of power over time, I think mines in quite good nick tho. Let's just say it can do under 8 seconds ;)

  • its no secret that a stock porsche is an 9 second car..i mean it is a porsche lol

  • Porsh? Couch? Ignorant SOB! You probably drive a Hon, or a Toy, or even a Merc, maybe even a Dod! Wow! Have some respect!

  • @miamaz can you spell correctly?

  • @miamaz Exactly, theres very few things that annoy me more than stupid ass ignorant americans who calls Porsche Porsh.

  • LOL vtech, brad, go out and buy yourself a minifridge from china because an intergra's handling is in that range

  • lol vtec is fucking stupid... it adds 1hp...

  • idiot. just sayin

  • a vtec crack you in your seat? I work at a honda dealership, vtecs bore me. and i drive 2 corvettes. you want power, theres your power.

just look at my profile. my 85 vettes on there. i have a 99 too. both fast. way faster than a FWD 4cyl

oh, 944s go for CHEAP.....like a grand or two

  • 2 Corvettes? Thats a load of insurance.

  • Yea, thats why i only have the 99 on it right now. My 85 is off insurance until 1. i make more money 2. I paint it black and 3. I fix its little problems (new tires/alignment, a pesky oil leak, and carb tuning)

Thank god for insurance though, i hit a deer in the '99 back in october. Basically tore through the driver fender, bumper and hood. Estimated 6g repairs!

  • you can get a 944 for a grand, but I wouldnt recommend it.. i'm about 6 grand into my thousand dollar 944 (S version)

  • @Paintballboy549 no kidding bro, i just got a 1987 924S (basically a 944 without wide fenders) for $850!

  • I own a 944 and worked at porsche in the 80's the 924s is much worse than a 944... a 924 was build with audi parts. much worse sespention, drive shaft, engine, etc.

  • thats a 924, the 924S is a whole different engine, drive train, etc

uses the 944 engine and actually beats the 944 in 0-60 ;)

  • that might be true for the 1983 and 84 944 but the 85.5 944 was a bit stronger haha =) eighter way would be cool to race you!

  • i think the same year? only cuz of the lighter weight.

and you would beat me anyways cuz i have the 3-speed automatic verison.. lol

i have plans on a 5 speed conversion though :)

  • @Coolbri1191 924's wernt made in 87

  • @MangoSmoothie16 yes they were, 924S is NOT a 924.

  • @Coolbri1191 oh. i stand corrected. my bad.

  • @MangoSmoothie16 no problem, common misconception

  • @Coolbri1191 yea. because i have an 87 944s so i didnt see why a 924s would still be in production but googled it and it was

  • @Paintballboy549 dude that must blow having to sell hondas...owning not one but 2 vettes and selling hondas. i applaud your tolerance.

  • when i check in my 944 on iphone, i take video answer :)

  • BUT, it will still out handle any other 1983 model on the market.

  • @ PCARFAN944---We did another 0-60 the other day with three people in the car, a full tank of gas, and going up a hill, and it did a 9.1. This according to an actual accelerometer, not the iPhone Dyno app. So overall, fairly decent.

  • Comment removed

  • 944NA is 147hp at the crank, NOT the wheels.

  • Any chance you will test a 944T?

  • In the future when I turbo it.

  • @DownshiftProductions you might as well just buy a 944 turbo, rather than to turbo an N/a

  • @toddk911

ive done it to my 951 with the iphone app, got 5.7S

  • thats about the same as my 1990 Miata.. whats wrong?

  • Well, lets see.....The Porsche weighs in at roughly 3000 lbs. Its a 2.5L 4 cylinder 8v SOHC engine, only puts out about 150 hp to the ground, and we didn't launch. A 1990 Miata weighs roughly 2200 lbs, has a 1.6L 16v DOHC engine, higher redline, and about 120 hp to the ground. If you do the power to weight ratio, the Porsche is 1:20 and the Mazda 1:18....Thus the reason why your Miata, is keeping up. Like Miata's though, good choice.

  • Sorry, I deleted your comment when i meant to reply to it:

You gotta take into account the power loss over the years, the Porsche is 25 or 26 years old, it's loses its "umph" over time. It probably only puts out 135-140 now. Maybe I'll get it dyno-ed.

  • I had my 1985 944 NA get a dyno tune and it was a mere 125 rear wheel horse power. Though that is on the stock build.

  • Actually a stock is 143HP AT THE CRANK. To the ground it's maybe 110? And, the engine has 140K miles on it...

  • actually 147k
