I love the vollyball example because where the thirds cross where we got taught to put your focal point you have the girls ass. Perfect axamples as always*facepalm*
For beginners starting out in photography please do not reference this clip. "ExpertVillage' my ass..... Bad photos, bad composition, bad examples. Sheesh! He's not even showing the rule of thirds in the first half of the video because the superimposed lines go outside the framing of the picture.
Poor explination of rule of thirds. While video discussed only one, there are two points to rule - lines for overall subject placement & intersections for where you want to focus viewer's attention. For example, the overall subject might be placed along the left line looking right, with face or eyes on intersection of left & top lines. Not good to place subject in middle of image as shown in first example. Framing or cropping using rule of thirds as described would have resulted in better image.
it's my first time using a dlsr. is it usual for photographers to do trial and error in photography? someone told me that it could easily break a particular part of your SLR if you do.
Chicks in the photos were great...the photo quality was terrible...and so was the tutorial...Stop stalking college girls and go sell your camera on ebay.
Hell on earth... half way through a non advanced course and I can tell that the lighting and focus are incredibly wrong. Maybe the "photographer" wasn't concentrating on such things because he was just shooting for the rule of thirds, but that lighting is diabolical.
The most un-educating video I have ever seen on photography. The author needs to stop worrying about thirds and maybe learn some composition and lighting. Not to mention FOCUS. That was the worst sports action photo I have ever seen from a supposed "expert."
Guess what everyone. Every pro interview I have read [in many different magazines] has stated that the first rule to follow with photography, is the rule called "there are no rules." Once you stop using your ruler and guidelines and start using your mind and eyes, youll start creating what you want to create. With time youll get better. And yes, it's that simple.
seriously this has to be one of the worst explaination of the rule of thirds ever

crappy photos and a shallow touch on elementary composition theory, way to get credibility for the name of this channel.
