@70sdiscobabe - it's interesting....when disco was dying, there was a vacuum that was filled with fantastic L.A. music. You had David Foster waiting in the wings. Quincy was helping disco crossover with Brothers Johnson, Michael Jackson, Ambrosia and others. I've always thought that era from about '78 to '81 was one of the more interesting eras in music although the top 40 couldn't have been worse! Great and simple post! Cheers!
I stronlgly think you have to blame it on the youtube audio voume compressor (if there's any ... but so it seems !).original audio file was high quality, no volume oscillations!
Richard Page has a really distinctive voice. I am a fan of Mr Mr, but never heard Pages b4. Were they a 70's band? This sounds like 70's music. Good though. he looks real different with that beard lol! he was a hunk when he was in Mr Mr!
Reminds me a bit of Steely Dan/Fagen/Becker. Man, I'm so getting into Richard Page. I gotta get this album too, it seems plus Third Matinee and 'Shelter Me'.
Colaiuta rules!!! All the stuff by Pages and later Mr.Mister is just a masterpiece! Pages is such a fascinating blend of the 70s and 80s, I think they paved the way for all the pop/rock 80s bands...Great respect for great musicians of the past, I miss u all...
Amazing track, a real supergroup. The eighties was a highpoint for music I think. Wish there was more like this.I love the pic of the flock of seagulls too!!!
i soooooooo agree the thing is I was young back then and now at 32 have a nice jazz/fusion collection mostly on GRP but I would love to own more of this groups music and eric tagg another great singer of this west coast genre
I let an ex-girlfriend borrow a bootleg cassette of two of the Pages albums and never got it back. I do miss hearing this stuff. I agree the best thing to come out of the 80's and no one hardly heard of 'em. thanks for posting. A drummer friend of mine George Lawrence played drums on one of the albums am I wrong in saying that?
When I got into "West Coast", a friend of mine borrowed this CD from an older guy. While I was waiting for my friend to eat I thought I'd listen to the intros (I'd never heard of Pages). I ended up listening through the first three songs, then took out the CD, and asked my friend to borrow it; the songs were the best I'd heard in the genre. I can still get extatic about O.C.O.E's ending. Wish they didn't fade out just when Vinnie and the bass gets going. :) Thanks for uploading!
Sure,He is ... but He's not playing on this one. That's Charles Johnson. Jay plays on "Only A Dreamer" and "Fearless" (which he also co-wrote) ,2 wonderful songs from the same album of OCOE.
Steely Dan-Toto-Pages. Well that would be a clear through merger given that Jeff Pocaro played in all three bands and 1500 other albums in his too short life.
You can't consider yourself an aficionado of the WestCoast AOR music scene unless you own all 3 of the early PAGES albums. Tunes like "I Get it From You", "Clearly Kim", "You Need a Hero", "Tell Me", "Who's Right, Who's Wrong", "Sailor Song", etc. are classics. If you are a fan of the WestCoast genre and are missing any of these records in your collection... you have my condolences cos' you are missing out.
Yes sir, I too have a collection of WestCoast AOR records. We should compare our playlists. I grew up on KNX 93 FM in Los Angeles back in the day so I'm hip to Bill Labounty, Sembello, Amy Holland, SAd Cafe,Fieten-Larsen, Delta, etc. They don't make em' that cool anymore. Let's rap.
Great song and fantastic record. It took me years to finally get it on CD (import)after having the vinyl version since it first came out. The album is full of incredible songs and playing. Hey "Flying Jib1" don't you miss that club and the music that went down in there? Remember the Dave Boruff band with Barnaby Finch, Vinnie, Neil and Pat Kelley. Those were the days!
Yes. Do you remember the peresussionist Michael Fisher? My 1st X there I heard Karizma probably 1st generation, & then Dave's band followed. Vinnie was fusion in itself. He was beyond amazing. & then Neil, so musical, making everyone else sound better... beauty in motion. The dexterity of those fingers.
Can't beleive I'm hearing this song so many years later. More Pages please. And Richard you're wrong, from the first time I heard this back when, I felt blessed Pages existed. Neil and Vinnie and the rest are stand out as usual.
Great

OCOE & AUTOMATIC by Page are great examples of a perfectly twisted jazz/rock fusion mind at its best!
Being a songwriter I know this genre doesn't sell well (i.e. "Broke Wing"), but it sure has your peers saying, "Man......Beautiful!"
I'm a Gadd guy, but Vinnie Colaiuta carries this so elagantly!
RP is still a hero of mine, 30+ years later!
