  • can i use this in a science fair??????????

  • if u you use ammonium chloride the fire is green

  • Hey CforChemistryHD.

I know this is considered a redox reaction but can it also be classified as any other reaction? Is it still combustion if it doesn't produce CO2?

  • @AkshXP and doesnt require oxygen?

  • Hey, im gonna conduct this experiment in my chemistry class. I was wondering if there is any history behind this experiment. for example how it was discovered or who made it. also is it possible that you can explain the role of the Cl- in the experiment and why we need it?

  • @AkshXP and thanks :)

  • Chinese accent lol!

  • Also was that text to speech or is that just what u sound like

  • Not really what I sound like, I used audio editor to modified my voice.

  • why is this This video may not be suitable for minors.

  • Someone flagged it, and Youtube SUPPOSE this is not for minors, the staff are just innocent.

  • I didn't understand half the words you said

  • So look at the subtitle.

  • I understand the chemicals used may not be able to be obtained in reagent grade, however chemicals can always be concentrated using home-capable methods!

  • Ammonium nitrate and Sodium chloride can be obtained, but Zinc cannot be obtained in workable purity.

  • Maybe I should start dissecting my stomach lining after eating 200 bananas?

  • Well Sodium Chloride is easy to get, its salt.

I know some nitrates are used in making sausages (the local butcher should have them)...but im not sure its Ammonium Nitrate.

  • Sodium chloride is just table salt.

Ammonium nitrate can be ontained from instant cold with high purity.

But Zinc, not only purity matter, the fineness have to be very high to make the reaction work, so I suggest buying it.

  • This is great! Out of the ordinary, more people need to expose their train of thought to experiments like this that take something like WATER and make fire!

It would also be great if you also discussed how these components can be acquired from household material or from Lowes/Home Depot, etc. for personal experimentation.

  • Knowing science fact is good, though, I don't encourage people doing experiment without knowing the underlying principle and proper safety precaution.

Therefore, I don't recommend to obtain chemicals from household item.

BTW, some of them can't be obtained from household items, hence all chemicals I used were reagent grade.
