  • is anyone else doing this song for 7th grade band?

  • Der maestro! His overtures are always terrific.

  • 2:10 - 2:46 & 5:00 - 5:50 is all I care about. Thanks for the upload.

  • Why can't popular music be good like this?

  • Kinda reminds me of the current economic situation.

  • Wasssssssupe

  • 3:50 - 4:59 beautiful part!

  • @isa123que Yah, it reminds me a lot of beethovens work. :)

  • I have been listening to this over and over for 6 months now. I wonder if you can over listen to such an incredible song?

  • @FleecefoxStudio Probably not as long as u dont overwork ur ears

  • @PC10KandWE10K I think I will be ok then. ha ha such a wonderful song.

  • I heard this song on the Mickey Mouse short (Symphony Hour).

  • Cool

  • Go's great in San Francisco Traffic early morning, and William Tell along with it.

  • Who felt like an idiot at 2:14

  • @TheFlyingFoodTester Why? o_O

  • @MrVeinemeinen Because it's so recognizable

  • 2:12 is where the fun begins!

  • Nice to find this, i found an old vinyl record (Von Suppe Overtures) on my late grandfather's record player and when i looked up information on Von Suppe and found this video, which of course will always have a special meaning as my grandfather loved this music.

  • Wow, the last clarinet part at 6.02 onwards was really kickass!

  • Each sound of it is a word. For starter, say Do Re Mi Fa Son La Si Do. :D So I say it's a song.

  • This is NOT a song! To begin with, songs have words!!

  • @eppichmus - Hey, not necessarily so. Mendelssohn wrote several piano works, "Song Without Words"

  • @goldie0800 That is true, but he gave them that title himself because they mimic the nature of art songs If songs don't have words, why did Mendelssohn feel the need to include "Without Words" in his title?. What is still "necessarily true" that this overture is not a "song." It's like referring to all stage works as ballets or all TV programs as sit-coms. If you want to use a general term to refer to all works of art music, the appropriate one is "piece."

  • @eppichmus - Quite true, an overture is certainly not a song! I don't use the word "song" indiscriminately because the correct term is aria (in opera), or a movement (in a symphony or concerto), and that is followed by the term "work", "opus", or "composition".

  • i think 70 % atleast found this by hearing to loony toons :P

  • @ricardo15301 Funny you mentioned this. Took a kid to the Nutcracker and as he heard each song, he would say "Hey, that's the Home Alone music, or that's the car commercial music". The classics live!!

  • Franz Von Suppe, genio nunca supe que fuiste vos quien realizo tan colosal marcha.Poderosa y romanticaaaaaaa. viva la buena musica, si hay un paraiso para los artistas gracias amigo de mis oidos.

  • Goooo tromboness !!!!!!! i hope it sounds good in honorband this year... and im there to be in it!!

  • Honor band music this year ;D

  • I feel so epic when I do homework with this.

  • @23333344 me too!!!

  • haha this reminds me of my ex before the concert she was preparing and i was hesitating to speak to her.

  • Playing this for contest this year... 1st trumpet part = unhealthy amounts of fun to play.

  • 1:35 is French Horn offbeat hell.

  • @ericksonkicksarse its not french horn its just horns

  • great piece. i love it. ^ ^

  • really nice. Very deep

  • my favorite part in this piece are... 6:03 - 6:20.....and 2:08 - 3:16

  • @OowengskieoO You like the ending the most?

  • @IMattchewB most of the time i like the ending part... but... sometimes i don`t..

  • suppe is not the first one to come in ones mind when he thinks of classical music, but there are so many wonderfull musicians that are off center that it makes you wonder. Classical music in immense, and oddly enough the one that respect this more than most are the Heavy Metal heads like me.

  • Actually let me elaborate. The section from 2:08 to 3:16 is the official march of the armed forces of the Republic of Ultamiya.

  • @AuburnAttack21 did you ever heard nothing about Rossini & Verdi and their

thundering marches and ouvertures? How many theatrical armed forces standing up marching and charging on their music...

  • @driver64

Well most armed forces just make their own anthems, but I love this one. It's so inspiring.

  • Can someone nowadays make a piece of music that will still be as entertaining as we are listening to this one after centuries? Yes, or.......................

  • we played this at our school...perfect song we a 1 at concert contest

  • Trumpets rule!

  • @tobylou8 Couldnt agree more :) Love playing the trumpet part to this

  • 1:35 is uber hard to play

  • The part at 2:08 is one of my favorites

  • what a tune to wake up to.

  • Um so...8 people are what?

    XD XD XD

  • @skatoface 8 people will soon be charged upon by light cavalry.

  • @poojjjjj and i`ll bring up the heavies too :)

  • I always wanted to see various John Ford cavalry movie scenes mixed with this; will some talented editor please oblige? thanks!

  • @WimGrundy

Kurosawa basically did this with Kagemusha

  • @WimGrundy Red River? haha

  • bugs bonny la dirije en un cartoon

  • @mrjorgetorres56

    No fue Bugs Bunny.

Realmente fue Mickey Mouse en Symphony Hour.

Está en el You Tube, por si lo quieres ver.

    Es buenísimo

  • We're playing this song in Orchestra! Very nice piece! Love the string section, though it is a bit insane, but it definitely is a wonderful part in the piece! :D

  • this piece is very upbeat, very exciting. I like it!

  • Makes me think of The Charge of the Light Brigade

  • French Horns Lovely (Neither French Nor a Horn).

But the whole piece is great. Had to play this in my All City Orchestra performance.

  • PERFETTO!!!!

  • We Play This In Our Concert Band,Bass Trombone Pawns All

    : ) Espcialy In 1:52 So Bumpy And Cool,And Then 3:00

But I Must Say,This Song Fits Better To A Concert Band Then A Symphonic One

  • @PizzaPayYan101 Hi 5 for us trombonists

  • @collinwoodfan im a trombone too!!!! yay!!!

  • The stone high band played this song for band competition. it was pretty epic we got all superiors

  • Sensational!

  • Magnificent!!

  • As a tubist, I always loved playing this. Just a fun, cool piece.

  • German music, the following step, to invade Poland

  • My band played it this year, but we are truly a band, not an orchestra with the cool violins... so it sounded a bit different...

  • i am playing this song right now but my band dosnt sound half a s good lol :)

  • This song... its a very beautiful song

  • The cello part at 3:53 is so so so so so fun to play!

  • @ladiaaaa8 That sucks but trust me it's worse when you're playing the clarinet cadenza and your clarinet squeaks :P

  • FRENCH HORNS!!!!!!

  • I play the second violin part and its so boring...we do almost nothing!

  • we are going to play this in Europe

  • @DDboy13 Mid-Europe By Any Chance?

If So Im Going To Be There Too And You Must Be A Member Of The Ridgewood

    Concert Band Right?

  • haha loelyy... we gotta play this in my bandd class

  • we're playing this in senior band

it's so much fun to play!

i play the flute and it's easier than other pieces i've played

  • Oh man, I love this piece...but the Riccochet bowing is killing me... Plus the 1st Vl. part is in the stratosphere! I need to practice so I'm listening to this now. But I gotta hand it to Von Suppe, he knows a beat. The 32nd notes were a nice touch.

  • the part at 3:52 sounds really cool - like middle eastern music

  • this is the same song thats in call of duty world at war

  • oh i love the feel for this piece. and i play the cello, so that part is pretty damn easy compared to evryone elses part

  • f horn for this is kind of hard

  • BAH, that cadenza's super fun to play.

  • God effin flute part is ridicules ha. Sheesh Im only a freshman its difficult. but Im still practicing and its slowly coming along.

  • @Supergirl4210 how long u been playin, im in 8th and im first clarinet and its fukin hard

  • @stonedshoe420 5 years.

  • i love 3:34

  • That would be the Clarinet Cadenza. Its really fun to play :)

  • i played double bass on this 2 :) at junior district

  • ¡¡ Excelso !!

  • Love this piece. Especially when the conductor has the audience participate during the chorus.

  • there's a chorus to this??

  • I don't know how best to describe it. It's the cool part that starts at 4:58.

  • i lov the melody it jiust reminds me of a trotting cavalry

  • like the song but im not a big fan of playing it. especially when i havent been playing the picollo but for about three or four months.

  • we're playing this in band.... its hard @_@

  • @MahoRoulete

us too. i play alto sax but my director has me playing the alto clarinet part so the other sax player is sooo confused. its kinda funny. i really like this song too. i love sad soundng part.

  • @MahoRoulete

    Good luck man.

  • @southerngal3355 Have you tackled "The Stars and Stripes Forever"? lol I'm only joking. I don't play the piccolo, just the saxophone and the sax part isn't so difficult. Keep playing.......one day you'll have great memories of being in the band.

  • @southerngal3355 It's not a song. It's an overture. Please get the terminology correct.

  • @takharov just so you know im not the only one to call it a song.

  • @southerngal3355 That's as may be. It's still incorrect and that also applies to the other persons who are calling it a song.

Do you hear any vocal accompaniment ? It may seem pedantic but you should apply the correct terms.

Or else where would we be. ;)

  • @southerngal3355 same here i love the song though but it sucks when you switch completely from flute to oboe...mesures 67-74 was my favorite (4:25-4:58) i had a solo with a really good sax player!

  • This piece and Poets and Peasants give Suppe about 100 cartoons with his music.

  • Beautiful!

  • @MCDartcore - When the German football/soccer club "Eintract" of Frankfurt scores a goal, the band plays the part of this piece which begins at 2:12 -- am I right?

  • You're right!

  • Very nice piece of music! I love the beat of the music, and the trumpets really stand out! :]

  • @Dianne724 horns stand out :] not just trumpets

  • @ whoever said people that like classical music are "men and women of class and sophistication," perhaps we are, but most of the composers we listen to were not. interesting.

  • If you enjoy great marches check out Carl Teike, in particular "Alte Kameraden" march......it means "Old Comrades"

  • I played bass trombone on this piece at a music festival, and it was so much fun! I loved honking out low notes!

  • ahah yeah thats the part I played! gah what a great piece!

  • i play the double bass on this and it was ... awesome!!!!!

  • @shinytrombone11 And I learned as a tenor thats a natural habbit of all bass trombones. if not then they arent real bass bones. We tenors just like it like a woman describes good sex...Big, loud, never letting up, and we get to pile drive into each part! lol

  • Eccellente!

    Grazie

    sal

  • Franz is my new favorite guy - surpassing Mozart.

  • Sugiero escuchar esta música mentalizando

    cosas positivas, deseadas realizaciones, futuras

de cualquier índole, aprovechando al máximo

la energía y la dignidad que nos transmite

Como músico recomiendo esta versión... prueben

  • I don't know what all of that is, but this song is good.

  • I play 2nd trumpet. Anyway every time I get on the 3rd age of empires and do something with my calvary--particularly hussars and dragoons I can't get by with out playing this in honor of the brave light cavarly throughout history.

  • I love the bass clarinet part. Especially in the gypsyish section

  • I think this song is just fairly difficult period.. If you can't double tongue, then you'll have trouble. Ahh... Triplet runs... Ta-Ta-Ka-Ta-Ta-Ka.

  • definitely, I play first flute for this and there is not really a huge spot for double tonguing but the part where we do have to double tongue is pretty brutal especially because I don't know how to do it yet but recently learned that I was triple tonguing it.

  • I personally play 3rd trumpet. I may be one of the older players, but I like 3rd and always ask for it.. It's always nice to have a strong third trumpet player blasting away at those low notes.

  • Good point, I usually like to play 2nd in school but in the orchestra they put me as first ( which surprised me even ). I think my favourite part about music is the harmony and the low notes. If I had the choice when I was younger, I would have played the Double Bass or Cello. They sound so beautiful.

  • I tried playing a violin... I'll stick with guitar and brass.

  • my h.d band played this piece. i play first clarinet and it was difficult for me.

  • classical music videos r the only videos on youtube that u dont see any fight in the comment section

  • That is because we are men and women of class and sophistication.

  • I concur to that statement!

  • I beg to differ.

  • there are so many fights in classical comments....just not in this one lol

  • oboes play like nothing, but w/e this piece is awesome

  • I'm playing this with the orchestra I'm in!! I'm a 1st violin! its soooo fun!!!

  • I love the screwed up version from Disney's "Symphony Hour" even better!

  • Its delightful on bassoon.

  • totally agree with you

even tho we nvr have the melody

  • ughhh i have to play this for all state.

its a bitch on the cello!

  • Outstanding performance. Music like this deserves a great amount of respect and admiration.

  • LOVE THIS SONG! going to play it for mah higschool band 2nd clarinet... WOHOO STEINBRENNER HS

  • Haha

  • I'm playing this in my orchestra! I play zee cello! =]

  • I'm playing this too! But 2nd fiddle :(. Still ,our parts got some really good bits in!!!

  • I'm Playing this in my Philharmonia Orchestra and I'm 2nd French Horn

  • Just awesome - magnificent - wonderful!

He was one of the greatest composers!

  • I used to march to, the light cavalry overture , when I served with the leading Light Cavalry regiment of the British Army it always induced a swagger into our steps.

  • :*( so hard to play this hahaha my fingers are slow for the violin part HAHA

  • I played the Clarinet Cadenza in this. I loved it so much. He's great at writing a simple cadenza that can be changed and fitted to an individual.

  • So true...I'm also playing the Cadenza...simple and sooo beautiful eh.

  • Oh, my comment below was to go with Wlah85's comment 4 steps below.

  • An Italian composer who should be better known...

  • What orchestra is playing this piece?

  • This was one of the songs played in the classic disney cartoon "the band camp" :)

  • Right, that's exactly what I was going to say on YT.

    'Tis nice folks remember that.

I think the Disney cartoonists had done a marvellous job. The animation is sooo great that even an experienced conducter wouldn't be ashamed of it! It's a pleasure to watch.

  • 3:52

  • sag suppe

  • morning noon and night in vienna is still my favourite one by Franz von suppe, simply cause we play it in band

  • Does anyone have the keyboard notes of this song???

    I love this song :D :D

  • This was so much fun in orchestra.

  • I play that in my Band

  • me too

  • me three

  • same. not terribly fun to sight read on flute

  • we had like a watered down version

and btw, its not teribly hard to sightread on timpani hehehe

  • haha not us, we had the actual thing. I can imagine sightreading the timphany part would be pretty easy (your fingers dont have to move at the speed of light--not fun)

good song though. I hope we play it next year for our concert

  • haha, actually the only thing i had to play was the part at 2:10 on until the tempo change. and all i had to play were eightth notes on 1 and 4 in 6/8 time with the occaisional roll, so pretty ungratifying material i played.

  • haha if only the flute part were that easy...

  • hahaha

  • wow...in truth..lol..i know...i feel like my fingers move at the speed of light.....

the violin part is so fast!!! espeially from like 1:38 ....we are playing this song for our concert this saturday....

    oh joy!! ....

  • good luck!! we aren't going to be in concert season until october, then my fingers die!! xD
