I have had PVCs since high school. Then i was getting up to 5 a min, the doc was not worried. Low potassium level can make them worse and ANYTHING that stimulates ( smoking, caffeine etc) can make them worse. Caffeine is a double wamny since it stimulates AND can wash potassium from the body (caffeine is a diuritic). I don't smoke ( never have) but I am a caffeine addict.
PVCs are harmless, aside from being a little uncomfortable. If they become extremely frequent (like every other day) then go to your primary care provider and they can assess the problem from there. Most people will have multiple episodes of PVCs in their lifetime. I wouldn't worry about it. Next time it happens you can try laying flat and then bearing down for a count of ten and that should help the problem.
@fatmansmoking2 I suffer from pvc`s also.. Sometimes during the brief pause of a pvc, I get a painful spasm in the chest area, It`s a very strange feeling, It`s kind of hard to explain.. Sometimes it feels like an electric shock in the esophagus.. It only lasts a split second but it scares the hell out of me.. My Doctor has no clue what it is.. I was wondering if you ever had anything like that
@TheirMommie .....I think it's just fair to say - smoking won't be *helping*. I wasn't suggesting it was the cause. But when you're getting the skips already, maybe a fag's not the best idea.
@TheirMommie if u have those, sorry to say that but thats not normal and go see a doctor and let help yourself. I had in the passed heartproblems and believe me a hearttransplant is the last thing you want in your life.
