i my opinion it's boring. He didn't show anything. After so many years of drumming i would expect some interesting polyrhythmic feels/grooves that blow up my mind. Something that I couldn't have ever imagined and not perfectly performed basic paterns. After 4 years of drumming as an amateur I dare to think that I could play almost same thing after few weeks of practices. For those who are impressed of such drumming try to listen Danny Carey from Tool band. Try to guess the idea behind.
...lol...what are you talking about dude?! He's the one drummer out of many, that can actually lead with his left and change at will during a performance and he does this with ease. Simon is the shit man...He's the shit. (K)
@bobek7907 this is one solo that is the same goove that the song was in. If you think this is basic, well that was the groove they were playing. I f you listen to all the diiferent vids of Simon doing solo's , they are all different with different grooves depending on what he felt like playing or what the band was doing. He doesnt just play the best tricks he knows all mashed into one solo everytime. Practice this performance, video tape it and post it. you said this was easy to play.
@BarryKunz64 I didn't say it's easy to play. What I mean is that I expect something more (surprising) than this from professional drummer like Simon. I know some of his grooves and I like them but this particular is boring for me - isn't it?
@bobek7907 well, not seing the show and what they were playing I guess some may think its boring. I happen to love watching anyone playing drums (solos) even the black guy playing paint buckets in a NY subway to 'Stomp' to early Oingo Boingo where they would have 2 or even three ppl playing zylaphones in an extended jam in the song 'grey matter'. or even the guy playing spoons in the 'Spoon man' video. look up Dom Famularo , hes not boring, you may even get a laugh.
just one of the best all-around known drummers on the planet not only for his innovative technique and sound options (i'm pretty sure Tama developed the Gong bass and octobons because of Phillip's input) but anytime the man sits down you always get something musical. The importance of melody, composition, meter, timbre is always in his playing awesome shit if you like this kind of complete mastery might I suggest Ndugu Chancellor as well.

Out of all the "super drummers" Simon's playing is some of the most 'badass' there is.
