  • You pick very strong, that is good! Pick it hard, pick it clean, and you are well on your way to becoming a proficient banjoist!

  • guapaaaa

  • Great job. Always nice to see women into banjo. Mostly my wife would like to break mine over my head. Keep picking!

  • A beautiful girl; a great banjo player!!!

  • @3hardrider7 Thank you

  • Your playing is very good and your video quality is also. I am about to buy a morgan monroe cascade banjo like yours, would you recommend it? It seems to be a real bargain for the quality.

  • @bluegrassnovice Yes, I would reccomend it very highly. I had some great musicians play on mine and said the sound was really great for the price. The only difference I would see is that it is heavy but all banjos are heavy. I went to bluegrass camp and played some others but loved mine the most. Up the neck playing is a breeze too. I never felt the need to upgrade again since I bought mine because it was an upgrade from a Goodtime II. Good luck. You will love your new friend.

  • Awesome job! You have the basics down for sure - And just something to think about : don't stay stuck in just Scruggs mode for too long - be sure and add Trischka, Fleck and especially that Shelor bounce into the mix.

    All the best to you!

  • Nice!! 6 months??!! U Rock!!

  • Sounds great!

  • Your banjo sound is awesome! Wow! Gotta love that blond hair too! Ma'am, you got a fan, he he! Love your banjos, and I can see that you're gettin' into the whole Clawhammer thing too, which also awesome... good job, you got some serious talent!

  • Where's them pugs?

  • Golden Mastertone

  • is that a goldtone

  • great playing, I like the closed back resonator sounds much better than the open back

  • Howdy,Merit. Now that you have been playing for 2 1/2 years, how's it going?

  • 6 months?? Very clean- and crisp- keep slow and let that clean crisp tone develop-as you get more experience your speed will pick up with perfect tone. You will be very good-

  • your stuff would sound much better on an open back - just one ears opinion

  • Same here. Open backs sound much better to me too

  • you are one of the top pickers here. Although you play is a bit slow the tone is fantastic. Glad to see you don't sacrifice good clean sound for speed.

  • thank you. I hope you have a great day.

  • Trés bien!!

  • I really enjoyed that; thank you for sharing your music with us. I'm just starting to learn the banjo, and it inspired me.

  • Thank you. Good luck. You will be addicted like the rest of us. :)

  • thank you Nick. I am going to Acoustic Music Camp and am going to learn clawhammer style banjo in less than 2 weeks. Hopefully, I will have learned enough to make some good videos. Keep on picking!

  • Hi Great video and great playing . I know what you mean about having a teacher I was trying to learn bluegrass banjo on my own . In the U.K it is hard to find a good teach who specializes in the banjo

    Best Wishes

    your new subcriber

    Nick

  • That was good, I would like to know who teaches you or if you teach yourself.? I am from Pennsylvania and yes we do listen to bluegrass I know a group who play's with in the state (with gas prices more like the county) but I have a teacher that does not know a whole lot about bluegrass he more or less told me to play classical music on the banjo NO NO NO! So I wanted to know how people learn, teach themselves, or have a teacher.

  • Hello fogbit44, I took from a teacher for the first year. I think it is good to learn bluegrass from a teacher because it is pretty disciplined as far as what finger does what and how to hold your hands and such. But, with the way the internet has expanded, it is possible to learn for free on here or rent dvds. I have started teaching myself clawhammer and am learning strictly from dvds and internet. I also went to a bluegrass camp which was very helpful. I wish you much luck on your journey.

  • Where is the Bluegrass camp at and if they have a website could you tell me.? And do they take time to help left handed players like myself!!?? I do not want to hound you questions but you are the only one who really has responded to my questions.

  • Sure. I went to Camp Bluegrass in Levelland, TX and will go to Acoustic Camp this year around Dallas. They also have Midwest Banjo Camp in Michigan plus many others. One other option is to go on the Banjo Cruise. Google any of those terms and you will find the info. I am positive that they can help left handers. You can also pay at the festivals or camps to get private lessons with some of the really great players.

  • Thank You, you have been a big help and I think that is all of my questions, for now!

  • This is a Great Banjo Song. My Compliment.

  • thank you

  • GREAT!!!!!!

  • I love your music! you play it perfect. just perfect. you pick like an angel. are the songs you play songs you made up?

  • thanks. The songs are all bluegrass. The first one "Banjo in the Hollow" is a little melodic. The last little bit was just playing around with a few chords and rolls.

  • Nice pickin'..you're really pretty too!

  • thank you

  • It was one that was well deserved.. Any tips? did you already play the guitar or something else thats why you are so good so fast? or this you first time playing at all?

  • Wow really you been only playing for 6 months? That makes me believe I might still have a chance.. I wanted to play since I was a little boy. I had a mean father and he hated country music and the idea of letting me play.. So he took it away.. I wanted to play since I saw the movie "Delieverance" back in 1974.. You given me the inspiration to maybe give it a go.. Thank you.

  • thanks for the super nice comment.

  • merit, are you playing the goodtime special ? it sounds like it, they are a hybred banj and have a sound of their own, I had one but could not settle with the lightwood neck for some reason, but they are great banj for the money x graham

  • This is played on a Morgan Monroe Cascade. I did have a Goodtime II that I started on. It was a good starter banjo or one to haul around.

  • nice picken

  • thank you. Hopefully I will get to do some more recent picking videos soon.

  • Really nice playing! I'm just getting started myself. Where might I find the tabledit file for your version of Banjo in the Hollow? Thanks!

  • for 6 months, you sound good to me...hell, you sound great to me. I got a banjo for christmas last year...and my progress has been really slow going...mainly due to lack of time... anyway, you sound great!

  • thank you. Good luck to you and happy picking.

  • Excellent stuff. You clearly enjoy the music which makes all the difference. Keep up the good work.

  • Mighty fine pickin'. Good and clean notes.

  • ae you using Doug Dillards actuall tab. for banjo in the hollow

  • Yes, it was originally by Doug Dillard. Arranged by Jay Buckley and then tabledited by my instructor.
