I think the reason they ain't as popular Iron Maiden or Slayer (They are big, but not as popular as those bands) is that they aren't your typical metalband, so you need to really get into it. I mean, it isn't really simple music. It's still pretty complicated stuff. Just like most people don't like Opeth the first time they hear it.

@parkerbob99 I think you may be misinterpreting the lyrics. DT's lyrics may be vague but not opinionated like some Punk or Black Metal band. I personaly interpreted the lyrics to be about how art brightens the mundane world. But as i said the lyrics are vague and open for interpretation, DT just isn't the kind of band that would use lyics as a soap box.

I have met the band personally. Mikael stanne is down to earth to the point of insanity. After concerts he would walk around between the crowds and drink beers with them. The band was seen in summer breeze headbanging with the crowd to other bands . All of that not to mention how beautiful and amazing there Art. Lyrics and music that comes from the heart Where words can not describe it.

My favorite Band of all time Dark tranquillity.
