If this was the extent of scramjet technology you'd better believe that it would not be public information. My gut tells my that this was a stunt to fool the world into thinking the U.S. has not perfected this technology. There is a weather satellite photo showing a high altitude contrail starting around area 51 and going across the U.S. and all of the way to China. It is estimated that the vehicle must do at least 8,000 mph in order to leave a contrail of that length.

@pieluvrftw I think you may be wrong here also the nearest equivalent to the original F15 which first flew in July 1972 is the Mig 29 which didn't fly until April 1981 the FX project as the Russians called it was a counter measure to the YF15 prototype but at the time of the F15's first flight all the Russians had was a requirements document for their own Eagle (Tochka Opori in Russian) the Mig 29.

If it was a spacecraft it would mean going SO fast that it would be almost impossible just to stay in a orbit around the earth. The fastest you can go in atmosphere is about mach 25, the space shuttle goes around mach 30 in orbit (30x speed of sound, 19800 mph, 31860 km/h) but STILL takes 90 minutes.
