  • when i use content-aware, i get this pop-up

"Could not fill because there's not enough data to fill it in a Content-Aware manner."

    What to do ?!?!?

  • I'm gonna try and get the chance to work for Adobe and tell everyone the truth xD

  • so.. this will remove clothing so u get to see what's underneath it.. rite..?

  • well done. thank you very much

  • is this available in the cs5 extended?

  • lol at 3:05 the autocaptions call "content-aware fill" "content to where Phil"

  • I got photoshop cs5. I tried a photo with content aware, and it didn't even work

  • THIS INST HD

  • 3:16 is it just me... but why is there a gigantic (coal?) powerplant right next to a beach? Err.. enjoy your bad health and cancer

  • @redtails Maybe the power plant was Photoshopped in. xD

  • @SpiderRider3 After which you'll just photoshop it out again, BRILLIANT :D

  • just a test:

    lol fail

  • LOL at 1:38 On auto captions it says "after a few seconds we have a very convincing #FAIL !!!

  • @ActivePigeon Way to stalk me and spreading lies about me @ActivePigeon. You seem really really desperate to make friends.

  • I live right near that last picture (the beach) !

  • so i judges the patterns and adds whats 'comes next' or something closely related? nice

  • 1:41 audio transcribe on, "and after a few seconds here we have a very convincing fail"

  • doesnt work as good as this video shows, its pretty bad actully

  • @SentryGuns It actually works just as good if not better than this video shows, you just have to know how to use the tool, and have good Photoshop skills in general.

  • 1) Turn on Auto-captions

    2) Go to 1:38

    3) Shit bricks

  • @katakis1

    a very convincing fail hahah

  • @katakis1 haha epic :P

  • @katakis1 Lol

  • wonder what that would do to a bra

  • Now THIS is a tool i could do with!

  • that is absolutely ridiculous.

HOW THE FUCK would photoshop know how to shape clouds :S ?

  • @ImTheWackhead

its not ridiulous. i got PS CS5. you need to try it. it tries to make the shape of the deleted shape's background. just try it.

  • @ImTheWackhead you are a little stupid

  • @S0v3r3ign69

no you are, please try to form your sentences correctly.

I can't seem to figure out how a computer program knows how to shape IRL objects without ever seeing them.

The program doesn't tell itself, "oh that's a cloud, let's make another one".

because that would be too much code, and the photoshop program would be too large too exist on any computer.

I tried to express my unbelief by saying that this was ridicule.

  • @ImTheWackhead Little friend, Content Aware is working just fine. I don't know what kind of algorithm is using for placing the right thing on the right place but I guess is something like observing repetitive things and continuing do it. You told this is a ridicule thing, but I just bought the CS5 Master suite and tested myself, and is working quite good. Sure you need to retouch some things, but is working. Have a nice day buddy and try to get some crack cocaine through your nose. Bye!

  • @S0v3r3ign69

Just got the program as well yesterday

not likin this feature too much as it only works sligthly better

    still fucks shit up

i'm more in the heroin though

  • @ImTheWackhead Well a software cannot replace the human brain. Yes the feature is far from perfect, but still very useful. You should practice a little. You can get magnificent results. Well, I'm glad you like heroin, but also take care with that, it may fuck you up for good!

  • Content Aware FTW

  • So how long do you reckon it will take for someone to actually try and use this on someones bikini?

  • @martijn86 Just tried it. Kinda made her look like some sort of alien. Not cool.

  • @Th3irdEyeBlind unless "some sort of alien" is what you're going for! ;)

  • how will i still be able to work long enough on my jobs to earn enough money if it's all that easy ;)

  • lol, I hope it ain't that easy on every image :) If it works as well as in the video, I'm going to buy CS5 for sure

  • I would like to see some serious zooms to see what it actually looks like.

  • it doesnt look yber-pro with just 1-click. You have to do smaller adjustments but of course the big problem is solved by these great improvements.

  • that is freakin insane

  • is this available for ps cs4?

i looked, but didn't see the little check box. all i saw was the proximity

  • @yankeesstink27 No, It's not.

  • i want one.. XD

  • You could do this in GIMP for years already!!!

  • @realisticHomeboy yeah right

  • @chemocool Enlighten yourself and search for resynthesizer in youtube.

  • @realisticHomeboy How??? I also use gimp!

  • @blocbonbon resynthesizer! Search for it on youtube to see demonstrations doing the same as in this video, but with gimp and resynthesizer.

  • @ blocbonbon:

realisticHomeBoy is an evident stalker as others have verfied.

(Feel free to ask me for the proof) and also is in support of familes dying on 911.

watch?v=nb8sxJbRakU and flick through his comments. He says

"it was 8 years ago nobdy cares"

  • OK, this is neat and all, but it's nowhere near amazing enough to warrant this huge pissing contenst over real/bullshit or whatever.

All this does, is do exactly what spot healing does on CS4, take a selected portition of a picture and analyze the picture data around it to find something to fill the selected area. The only difference is that it doesn't just take one huge chunk, but stiches several smaller chunks together for neater results..

You people truly are morons if you think this is fake.

  • @shinmai agreed

  • Comment removed

  • nice now u can act like your flying when hanging from wires like in the movies without even trying.

  • Looks like fun, but the only practical application is to assist lazy photographers. Adobe was meant to replace the film lightroom, not replace the need for thinking as a photographer. Shame on anyone who leans on photoshop like this (unless you're just a wealthy hobbyist snapping your family for fun.)

  • It's Content Aware Philip that does all the 'shopping for you. He's a gnome. Also, he's learned a new way to say, "Hoooorraaaaaaay".

  • Perfect for teenagers Myspace pages, they wont have to up the contrast to get rid of their zits.

  • anyone who thinks these content aware fill things are real still, are stupifly retarded.

you obviously dont use photoshop or if you do you dnt know what your doing.

hes removing / adding layers, its not hard.

  • @dirtydog1985 Considering this video is on the Photoshop Facebook page. And that page is linked to directly from Adobe's website, I doubt it's fake. Unless you are suggesting that Adobe themselves are playing the joke.

  • @

armpitpuncher - wow, all you had to do, was check out that link at the end of the vid, to see it has nothing to do with this bullshit. infact, in the Adobe Advanced Technology Labs webpage, there is nothing about that, but its ok, you have facebook, and thats obviously a more justified source of infomation.

but hey since your in a gullible mood, my penis is 24 inches long.

  • @dirtydog1985 Yes, I checked out that link. Apparently you didn't. Because if you had watched the video that was on that page, on Adobe's own website, you would have noticed 2 glaringly obvious facts.

    1) The narrator of that video suspiciously sounds exactly like the narrator of this video.

    2) 45 seconds into the video, it shows an image with 2 students in front of what looks like a university building. He removes one of the students in a manner exactly like what is done in this video.

  • what a coincidence!

    ..

    ..

    ..

i also believe that this is bullshit.

  • @dirtydog1985 I agree with

armpitpuncher, this concept seems a bit "magical", but not too out of reach. It was also officially posted by Adobe, and I do not think they would make this kind of thing up...

  • @dirtydog1985 its real but guess you wont believe me till you use it for yourself

  • This is fraking amazing. BUT holy crraaap the propaganda possibilities. D:

  • He tells you why, its because it takes Multiple little boxes and stiches them togeather, and the program looks for patterns.

  • it doesn't, i believe it fills in the spot with pixels around it, and you start fixing it from then on.

  • This is so easily faked. He selected the power plant which is initially on a different layer and deleted it. Easy. O.o In the last example, wouldn't the trees have been deleted? How did the program recognize he wanted to keep the trees? Es'actly.

  • @Nunsmash3r

its called "content aware fill" for a reason. it recognizes, or is "aware" of what you want to replace. the trees stayed there because he left the bottom 95% of them which obviously meant that he wanted to keep them in there. why would he spend so much time faking a video like this? when CS5 comes out and you see the content aware tool, youre gunna feel dumb for writing that.

  • Yeah, everything on youtube is faked, we know. :)

  • @Nunsmash3r " In the last example, wouldn't the trees have been deleted? "

If you look closely, you'll see that the fill is a couple of clones of what you see to the left. Probably because the area to the left better fits the trees below the selection.

  • I am sure that in the next version, the algorithm will have enough awareness to remove the reflection and shadows of the deleted items too, unlike the factory's reflection in the last example.

  • it'll be so aware it'll enslave the human race

  • @muraliavarma I'm sure with some work he could easily remove the reflection as well.

  • 這一切真是太完美了!!

  • lol see if i can remove all the audiences from a MLB world championship

  • I like how the reflection of the power plant was left over in the sand... (of course it was, that wasn't what he was targeting, but "the relatives" might wonder...) and the trees were blatantly copied from the other patch. But all in all.. holyshitthat'sawesome.

  • Let just make out family vacation photos not what they actually were. Remember that beautiful beach without a power plant in the distance, that was so nice. oh, wait...

  • @DeathSquadDesign

this is clearly targeted at professional who are editing for advertisments.

  • @Timeyy

Did you watch the video and listen to what the Adobe evangelist said?

  • @DeathSquadDesign

I did, but still, it would be retarded to pay several thousand dollars to edit a signpost out of your family photos. thats what i think at least

  • can we still x ray tits?

  • @RundgaardenPlayboy roflmao....

  • @RundgaardenPlayboy I just saw a picture... someone tried that with Olivia Munn ... It was scary to say the least...

  • @rockcabbage link? :)

  • Cant link on youtube, numbnuts. Its on I m Bored . com

  • What will be wonderful is when this type of technology actually reaches a consumer product -- which Photoshop by price tag alone is not.

  • You'd think Dan Goldman - Researcher from Adobe's Creative Technologies Lab would know to hold shift if he is just trying to draw a straight line with the brush :p - Looks awesome though, it is so tempting to want to call it fake, that's how good it is.

  • best april fool since spaghetti grew on trees..

  • Did you ever consider that this was uploaded in October of last year? Yeah, didn't think so.

  • this makes photoshop... too easy.

  • @xiris420 it doesn't make it too easy... the thing with photoshop is that everybody with a minimum knowledge can "use" it, but if you want professional results, you still need to put your abilities into all those tools.

  • @ansiaaa666 - true, but definitely a move forwards

  • @2009Spaced you misunderstood me. I totally agree about the progress in quality of photoshop. I was only pointing out to some people that this is not a toy or something that everybody can use to make perfect pictures without any knowledge.

tools like this are a huge help for professionals and people who know how to use them.

too many think that photoshop is just "point and click" software...

  • @xiris420 Yes, because Photoshop is MEANT to be hard... why buy it if it's so easy? I want something that will make common problems tedious so that I can show off my skills, who wants to /save time/, pft!

  • @FezDaStanza shut up arrogant nerd cunt

  • @goestyou Did you fail to pick up on my sarcasm....?

  • @FezDaStanza It's not meant to be "hard", its meant to be advanced. And because it is so advanced, its hard to work with if you're a beginner.

  • @FezDaStanza i do, when i have been on vacation and i have a miillion pics i wanna make better it would be nice to just click a couple of buttons and then i would be done

  • photoshop just got... too easy.

  • Dont tell the clients/bosses.

  • April 12 2010

  • when is this going to be released?

  • I work with Photoshop everyday and these type of issues are what eat up 80% of my time. I can't tell you how pumped I am - of course it's not going to work 'perfect', but it sure as hell beats using the healing brush or healing patch tool, or wasting time modifying the texture and opacity settings of the clone tool. BRAVO!! Can't Wait!

  • OMG, this is going to change everything!

  • @LCMCover now it seems everyone can do amassing things in photoshop O_o'

  • theres a hole in my wallet, think this "content aware" will work too? seems pretty magical

  • What about when the cops use photos to see where people where last during investigations? Freaky, man. Technology's changing everything. Kickass, but freaky.

  • Luckily there are programs that let you tell if a photo has been edited before.

  • I do a ton of 2.5D visuals, and this feature right here and the new 64-bit AE is going to save me so much heartache. Thank you Adobe!!!

  • Wow this is so helpful... it actually save lives.... :P

  • This will make photographers lazy in composing their photos. They just need to use this option to remove the pole in the background etc.

  • @guidlines

It might make some lazy, but any photographer worth their salt is still going to put in just as much effort.

They may even put forth extra effort since they will know that the shot they would just love to take might actually be possible if there are some rather terrible bits in the composition that they can't control.

  • I don't believe it until I use it.

  • SHEER brilliance!

  • It's probably done with texture synthesis. A little-known Gimp plugin called Resynthesizer has done this since at least 2004, but I expect the Photoshop version to be higher quality. It works by constructing a mathematical model of the vicinity, then using that to generate more.

  • Ignoring my previous comment, the technology is amazing. I look forward to it.

  • "We'd rather remember it without ..."

I know your job is technology, not actual use, but changing history seems a bit ridiculous. The family photo one seemed particularly preposterous. If they wanted to be out in the middle of no where, they should have gone out in the middle of no where.

  • In the last one you can see the trees on the right get duplicated to the hole. But seriously, thats awsome

  • This is incredible. Has to be the farthest advance in image editing in years.

  • The last one is not as cool, you can easily see that it's like two identical mountains.

  • if you look closer you'll see that it took the trees from the left. the trees that appeared are the same as the ones to the left. This could be done before BUT a lot slower and not as accurate. This is the WOW factor

  • In the one right before the last example (and to a certain extent in the last example too), how does the algorithm know that pine trees get skinnier at the top, but oaks get wider?

  • This might actually make Gene Simmons best friend disappear from a photo

  • At 1:45 i am amazed that it didn't take away that rail with the wire.. Thats insane!

  • I can't believe it kept the top of the tree in the family photo. This is crazy.

  • power photoshop users have been doing things like this for years. This is a cool tool, but we will see how it works in the real world of selling this stuff after you use the tool

  • I don't think the point is so much this is new stuff you could never do before -- I mean, it's obviously stuff the industry does all the time. The time saving implications are potentiality huge though, which is very exciting.

  • It's not for the power users, it's for the people that have no clue what they're doing. Just makes the powerful photoshop abilities available to everyone

  • Yeah, but the point is that this allows people like my mum to do this. Power users are going to have to up their game and come up with new tricks or become average users again.

  • @BoingBoingNeil but it doesnt just make it easier, it makes it take less time

  • and also the point of any program is to make it easy enough for everyone to use not just a select few people who are really good digital artists otherwise they dont make any money

  • yeah, this stuff is possible now, even in cs3, but it takes hours (for me, at least) to achieve a quarter of the quality this does with one tap of the DEL key. We're reaching a point where most everything is possible, now it's becoming more efficient.

  • This is off the richter.

  • @TodaysRapSucks awff da ricktahhh

  • really unbelivable. trying to close my mouth now.

  • Holy cow, as if we don't have enough trouble discerning reality in photos.

In the last example, how does it know to leave the trees and rocks alone and only target the power plant?

  • if you look at it, you can see it does replace the trees, but because theres already trees there at the border of it, it replaces the trees with other trees.

  • @zagmazmatron It takes the average color pallet from the selection and uses that as the base to remove any objects around there with that pallet. Then with some snappy algorithms to detect common object patterns it discerns the images from each other.

  • Farkin' crazy is what it is.

I still think it's black magic..

  • @zagmazmatron

that's exactly what I was going to ask, he selected the power plant and some of the trees but the only thing that was completely removed was the power plant, the trees stayed. Ok after I wrote that I read the comment by supermatthew222 and he's right, but I'm going to post this anyway.

  • @zagmazmatron because there are trees and rocks outside the selection, it's content-aware. It would be stupid if it just filled the selected area with a blue color.

  • I would image that it takes samples from either side of the selection, noting that the shoreline and tree line continue accross the selected area and out of the other side?

    Otherwise, damned if I know,

  • @zagmazmatron probably it goes through whole image and tries to find regions that are similiar to surrounding of one to be deleted. then it blends what it finds. at least it looks that it does it this way. it looses many details in region you want to delete but is still amazing tool.

  • @zagmazmatron

Same question here bro... I think it has something to do with algorythm

  • wow, that can save so many of my photos and time

  • unbelieveable

  • I'm buying more fucking stock right now!

  • @markkens

    .. Good plan!

  • I actually cant believe it!

  • Just awesome.
