geez i remember my mom watching this video and crying (cause shes a big massive depressive baby), i never understood why (cause Im an idiot), after all these years (like two weeks) I watch and understand exactly what was so emotional about it :'( (scientist dont have scientist girlfriends) }{'(
Jeez. I remember my mom watching this video and crying, and I never understood why...after all these years I watch it and understand exactly what was so emotional about it. :.)
Sometimes in TV/ film & music things progress and get better and better. At the time I think most of us just enjoyed the muppets as entertainment. Looking back Henson was a true master and this was probably the pinnacle of this art form.
Which is why Jim Henson was one of the greatest creative people who ever lived and his work will last forever as long as there is an audience to see it.
I agree. I feel so lucky to have both met him once in a workshop setting and, at a separate occasion, to have him respond to an article I wrote about the muppets in a self-published newsletter I wrote as a kid. To think that he took the time and read it, and then took the time to write me - I cannot express enough what a really GREAT and KIND guy he was!
I've loved Jermit and the gang my whole life, i've always thought what Henson and his crew did was magical and i still do because it still makes me feel dlad that in a crazy world they took the time to bring this idea to life and share it with all the children and the not so grown up, grown ups. Thanks for putting this up and thank you for confirming what i'd always hoped, that Jim Henson was also a good person.
@wowinkorporated You are very lucky. Jim Henson was very inspirational. He seemed to know how to have fun at work and still be productive. i try to approach my work that way. I also like how he was whimsical and grounded at the same time.
I don't mean to ruin the magic - but imagine from a technical standpoint the complexity of this performance. One muppeteer is handling the head (probably Jim Henson) and another, at least one of the arms if not both - all of the beaker and test tube handling, mixing and drinking - all while looking down at tv monitors showing them what the audience will see - it's a LOT of WORK!!
you're comment doesn't ruin the magic. B/c the true magic of henson was that he showed you what he did and how he did it every step of the way.. he was glad to do so... and we still believed.. now that's magic
@FLPman Beautifully put, FLPman... you're so right. I'll always remember that workshop I was lucky enough to "crash" - as Jim Henson operated Kermit just a couple of feet in front of me. Wire rods hanging down from Kermit's wrists, and a long green sleeve from his bottom to Jim's arm. Kermit went "Well, here I am... (looking down at his hanging legs) uhh, bearing ALL so to speak!) And the whole room erupted in laughter! It WAS magic... magic I don't think I'll ever see the likes of again...
@bensboogers - that doesn't ruin the magic. It just shows how incredibly talented Jim Henson was. All the work that went into making such a beautiful clip.
I loved this song from the first time i heard it. I also loved Muppets from my first memory. Now I find the two of them together!!! How can the world contain such awesomeness?!
depressed me when I first watched it at 5 years old.

Quality entertainment for kids... I'd rather have my kids watch muppets vs Ed Ed and Eddie

So beautiful. This song and this interpretation go to a whole new level of heartbreaking when you remember what happened to BOTH Jims.

Songs with so much emotion in the english language are really very rare but if there is one of them like this fantastic song ..
Then you just feel the beauty and power of english..It should become the official world language..
Thanks for sharing bud..

I prefer Jim Croce's version, but the video makes it equally good.
