Oh man, mid-70's LA - Van Halen playing giant block parties, Tony Alva carving swimming pools on his skateboard.....and Zeppelin's new album just released!!! Add a Ford Mustang with an 8-track and everything is good. Very good.
Was at the concert noted on the poster about one minute into it - Sammy Hagar opened with a blistering show, followed by Van Halen, where DLR proclaimed, "We're from HERE!" (The Anaheim Stadium show. Arcadia? Anaheim? Same thing!) Boston followed with a helluva' holographic show, and finally, Black Sabbath - on their 10th anniversary (and fatefully, one of their last Mach I tours) after their "Never Say Die" album was just out. Awesome! All of us in bands at that time played the same LZ covers!
now VH got some good cuts. Drop Dead Legs being my fave. And Eddie is a great player inspiration to millions we know. ZEPPELIN gods to not only me and countless more but Eddie and the boys as well. Promote that.
uh Zep was just kids when they started playing Plant was what 19. In order for zep to do a VH song they would have to upgrade it of course it's gonna sound dif. Better sound to me like your doing a little self promo i got a site u can check out zep official site. Better yet get a couple vinyl lps and open your ears
@japzbene1562 Page in Comparison to Van Halen was not a theory tutored musician like Eddie...Eddie perhaps had recieved tuition very early in life perhaps as young as 6 his dad played the oboe II think. Also Van Halen Learnt the piano very early and took music lessons at school p[age started the Guitar had no formal music lessons and played it at school and later art college....like Richie Blackmore Van Halen had a more earlier proper tuition which helps emensly
Oh my God are you people serious VH can not and should not ever have attempted ANY ZEPPELIN tune please seice and desist any further blaspheme of THE GODS
@japzbene1562 They were kids. It was when they were under 20! Here's a better thought: COULD ZEP even do a Van Halen song? I would bet that would be truly laughable. The Gods? Uh. Okay. Yours maybe.
You are not gonna believe this but i often thought along time ago..way before the internet , that this song by Led Zeppelin sounds So much like Van Halen !
@THReynolds2 It was 1975 during the dance contests "era". The crowd you can hear a little at the start through Dave's mic. There's no mic on the crowd during the song. I don't know that there are any recordings of Dave, live, before getting with VH. It's definitely VH playing!!!
@mlmr11 NP - You aren't and weren't rude. I was allowing that you may be right on because I seriously don't know many Zep facts at all. I have a multi disk greatest hits of Zep but that's it. Van Halen I have thousands of tracks, rare and unreleased, and I know trivia, facts and their history more than a person should! When people say "this sucks! Zep blows VH away" then THAT IS Rude! Rock on!
@gossett2006 I am a very big fan of both bands so for that reason alone you would never hear me say something like that in addition to the fact that I am not that classless. As long as I didn't come across as rude I appreciate your hospitality on your video page. Thanks for this video by the way
One man should be praised for his songwriting skills, and the other should be hailed for his technical abilities. These dudes are more than capable of either of these traits, yet one is better than the other. How do you score that kind of shit?
Yea, I'm a big VH fan. PRE- Van Hagar....DLR rules...Sorry for those who disagree. It's all good if you like him, But after 5250 I stopped buying their albums...Been a fan since 1978, my dirt bag brother turned me on to them, heh, he hitch-hiked all the way from Florida at 17 to NJ (to my mom's house) to be a drummer, eventually in NY. Guess he never made, it since I haven't hear from him since he ran off. Oh well, Got some damn funny stories about him. But glad he turned me on to VH..!!!!!
why does it always have to be a competition ? " I heard that Raphael said that Michelangelo was a prick , and paints like a 4 yr old " .. sounds pretty damned stupid aye ?
@dockaiser okay, let's not get too hasty here. I'll give VH props for a terrific cover but there's an immediacy inherent in Led Zeppelin songs (especially the original album cuts) that no band can truly capture. Plant delivers a lyric like he is making it up as he goes/as if it is flowing from him at that moment in time/every time. Roth (bless his heart) is too preoccupied with the fun [and I'm not saying that's a bad thing! but...] to ever delve into the honesty/soul found in a Zeppelin lyric.
@ThrashRoC That's excellent. It would be nice to think VH and Zep were cool with each other. I have an interview where Ed said that he met Jimmy Page who wouldn't talk and actually refused to shake his hand. Then he said Page plays live like he has a broken hand! You should check my channel and site (stated on my icon) for over 100 of these gems - Zep included. The Ocean, Trampled Under Foot, others....This...you'll see.
@z1inspector You're kidding, right? I love Zeppelin and Jimmy, but to say Jimmy blows Eddie away live, please fella. Look up some more Eddie vids and find ONE video of Jimmy throwing down like Eddie.
@bandit7498 Wait...apples and oranges...you can't compare the two in any logical way like you can with [say] Michael Jordan and Dennis Rodman. That's a bit childish and irrational to even consider.
I'd venture to say Page paved a few roads Eddie drove on many times in finding his own art.
I'd venture to say Eddie would tell you that himself.
@DachshundAdvil I never compared the two. I resonded to someone else who DID compare them. But to say Jimmy blows Eddie away live is just nonsense. Eddie was THE man back in the day and very few people could hold a candle to his playing in his prime. That being said, of course Eddie picked up some things from Jimmy. He even said he got the two hand tapping from watching Jimmy play the Heartbreaker solo. I once read where Eddie said he wished he could get inside Jimmy's head for his tones.
@gossett2006 Actually, the story Eddie has told is about Joe Perry refusing to shake his hand. He has indeed before stated that Jimmy Page played live like a 2 yr old w/ a broken hand. He has since changed his tune and defends Jimmy, and is now friendly with Joe Perry. Jimmy Page has stated before that he takes his hat off to Ed for his technique and imagination. Hope that helps.
Probably spent about 1/2 hr learning the tune, maybe rehearsed it once & although a bit rough around the edges it rocks hard & they totally captured the essence of that great LZ tune. A rare gem indeed , hearing this has improved my day out of sight.
@Tharg I'm glad to hear it had such an impact. This is one of several Zeppelin songs - The Ocean, Trampled Under Foot and others - they did that you can access at my channel and at my site (mentioned in my icon) and if you check it out there will be alot more stuff you will be shocked and amazed to hear for the first time! Take care. VH Forever in deed.
Roth fumbling his way through the lyrics that he's making up on the spot. When I saw this, I wondered, "how did they find the lyrics back then?" Not like they could just look them up online like we can today. We're so spoiled by the internet! I have to like this cause I LOVE the PRESENCE album!!!
@phillyphil690 Thanks! Check my channel and you won't believe it. I've got about 80 songs, many as rare as this there! Also, I got a lot more coming!
@phillyphil690 Those old pics are primarily from Neil Zlozower. Look up that name on Google. I have his permission to use them. @phillyphil690 Thanks. Neil Zlozower took most of those and I use his work by permission. The HS picture is always really funny isn't it? I have Ed's HS picture too. I'll put it in the next oldie.
@johnnybeane you know what too? ALL the songs that are up that I didn't personally upload to YouTube of the oldest Van Halen, there are multiple versions of each. Not to brag but like "Let Me Swim In Your Ocean" I have 3 versions of it. One is just as clear as a bell and it's short (which, YouTube SHORT videos seem to rule, don't ask me why. If it's good I want a lot of it.) so I'll put that up soon. I'm about to upload "Keep Playing That Rock And Roll" 2day.Doin Niagara Falls video work.
