I'm about to do this to my hair. I found the same bulk hair for $10 at a discountstore, but its not 16" or anything. I did a test loc and it worked fine. I did have to feed in a few strands of bulk hair though. Right now, I'm just getting control of my dandruff and deciding on a color. If it's going to be permanent, I want to start them in a color I love. Your locks look beautiful. I can't wait to see them grow out.
@didi425 in order to remove them you'd have to cut the ends and comb them out. @blaquegemini i loved the video it was very help, because I have loc extensions as well.
Sista I have the utmost respect and admiration for you taking your hair destiny into your own hands! Going natural for a lot of sisters is traumatic at best. They want to do it but don't want the ugly stage and I understand totally. Baby I was nappy before it was cute LOL and heaven only knows the things you go through making that transition. And I'm a hairstylist also and I encourage my clients to learn to do their own hair. It's about getting what you need and want at a cost you can afford.
I love this!!! I'm a broke college student and I really want to try out locs but do not have the money, thanks for being so encouraging and now I will try it out myself!!!
hi :), your hair looks beautiful. How do you take them down if you wanted to remove them? I want to try these, but I want to leave them in a for a month or two. I've practiced it, and the take down scares me. I don't know if i'm wrapping them the wrong way or something. lol. do you have any tips for a relatively easy takedown?
@didi425 i'm sorry I dont have too much advice on how to take them down. If you use afro kinky human hair it will Lock your hair, maybe you wanna try yarn braids or use synthetic hair to create the dreadock look, that way you can take them down when you get ready. I hope this helps. And thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching.:)
@didi425 When I took ou my test loc, it took a while. I had to detangle from the ends with a fine comb. It felt like my hair was already starting to lock. :) My advice? Wrap the lock down only, don't wrap down and then back up. That way, when you're detangling, you won't have to deal with knots, like I did.
you sound JUST like me. i been wearin yarn braids for a couple of months now and i am REALLY takin my time gettin dreads. i been lookin for someone who did the loc extensions themselves cuz locticians make it sound sooo hard. YOU'VE INSPIRED ME!! i'll be doin mine sometime soon hopefully. =-)
@KevaJuicee I'm Glad I've inspired someone, I mean really if you can braid your own head then all you have to do is wrap the afro kinky human around the braids. you have to use the afro kinky human to braid and wrap the hair with... and that's all i've done and there holding up pretty well. and I maintain them every once in awhile by rewrapping the locks that need it. I've had my hair Locked for about 6months now. : ) if you do them yourself i would love to see it!
I think you did a GREAT job! I have loc extensions also and I wish I was talented enough to do them myself, lol. I did find a reasonable loctitian to do them though. I'm glad outside the professional vids others are posting their loc (ext) journey's as well...and I'll be posting mine soon as well. Please keep the updates coming!
Hi- No I didnt get any residue on my hands from the Beverly Johnson hair, They are still holding up,It's going on 2months and I'm in love with my hair!!lol Thanks for the compliment. Do you have pics or a video of your locks, i would luv to see them!
No I dont think you can use yarn, but I'm not sure, i used afro kinky human hair to start my locs! There was one channel on youtube that i saw that was starting her locs with the yarn braids but i dont know how that turned out, it seems to me the yarn would unravel after awhile! hope this helps:) bless ya
your hair looks great!!! it looks like you went to the salon to get it done :) It's so wonderful to be apart of your natural hair journey!! I must say again the locs look great on you :)
Thank you so much!! And don't give up on the yarn braids, you will love them once you get them all in!!:) it is very time consuming, but cheap and worth it!! god bless:)
OMG! They look amazing. You did a great job on them. I still want to try the yarn braids, I did do 1/4 of my hair but I took them out because it was taking way too long. Maybe I was doing them too small. I will try again after I take my kinky twist out.
