  • Wise words, btw you remind me of vince masuka from Dexter :)

  • Try listening to Rachmaniov's concertos, Mendelssohns concertos and even Beethovens late sonata such as the Waldstein and Appasionata then tell me if it sucks.

  • I agree completely.

  • Classical music is the only music with soul! It evokes emotional responses that cannot be replicated...The people who hate classical music, have a low attention span, and are dumb.

    <3 Classical

  • Lol Piss and Vinegar is a perfect way to describe it!!!!!!!!

  • I hate pretentious people, and pretentious communities are just worse. And you're right, they make it hard to get into something, but at the same time it's sooooo satisfying to make them squirm

  • youre very smart are you a professor in music theory?

  • Yes! Some more philosophy, or maybe simply discussion, a-la Torley. Always good to hear.

  • I think what also makes people think classical music sucks is because of the age. But Classical music is like Wine, as it ages, it gets better, and if you analyze all music now, you can hear the structures that exist in some of the best classical pieces.

  • @Dholmes1022 Well honestly I think where it stems from at the very heart is that Music (classical mainly) used to be prestigious, regarded highly. If you were a talent in the industry you were somebody. If you studied at schools you were on the road to being somebody. Regarded like PHD's at one time. It was played and performed for those that could usually afford tickets, played in royal courts and rich homes private shows at partys ect. The "Ritzy life" kinda followed it through the ages.

  • ROFL Torley you sumed this up in a form of point counter point that was great. I particularly liked the "knickers" and "Explodes the shit out of them" Followed by a huge smile on your face haha. I just think you really had alot of important things to sya that are so very true. I have a few constructive counter points views butare no place to discuss in a comment of course. Thanks for the great discussion as always mate! Cheers, IC.

  • Thanks for sharing your thoughts (or for "ranting," as you call it).

I've played violin for ten years, piano for six, and have always had a fondness for Baroque and Classical period music. As a kid, it was hard to talk music with friends, because everyone else listened to Britney or Usher or whomever else was ruling the radiowaves. Even at 23, I still find it difficult to share my love for classical music. None of my friends identify with it, so I mostly just keep it to myself.

  • @GMJ7

I've made YT playlists of "palatable" classical music to show to friends, but about halfway through gauging their reactions, I realize they're just humoring me.

I am thankful that we have such a rich musical inheritance reaching back to Palestrina and beyond. Listening to something penned centuries ago is an almost supernatural experience. (In that sense, music can be like time travel!) But to my friends, I fear I will always be merely a musical antiquarian with a tendency to wax poetic.

  • @GMJ7

If you can't talk about classical music with your "friends", why don't you go see a symphony and make some friends there?

Wether it's with the orchestra, or the crowd. Just be honest with them that you don't have anyone to talk to about your passion with classical music, and that you'd love to talk to them about.

And if they don't like that idea, just talk to someone else, I'm sure someone will understand.

Why would I write this comment? Because I love the music as well!

  • @GMJ7

I'm sorry about my other comment, I did not watch the video first.

I'm worried that you might meet those so called "Snobs" and that could be very prominent in that crowd. Like someone listens to classical music, not because they like it, but because they are rich, and that's what rich people do. But not all rich people are like that, just the ones who were not raised correctly.

A good way to find someone like that is to attract them, Know that you will find someone to talk to about this.

  • @GMJ7

Don't give up finding someone, it's much like a marriage, or literally, except it's a marriage of common ground. Kind of like a best friend. I don't think a best friend is someone that makes fun of you and what you like, and says I'm just kidding. That's abuse.

Don't ever give up, you will find someone, one person is all you need.

There's a lot of people who love classical music like composers.

Snobs with huge egos listen to it - like I said before - ect.

  • @GMJ7

It's elegant for them, and everything else is below them. Much like how they would see everyone else around them. If they don't like it, it's meaningless and they will try and tear it down for their own amusement, because they think they are always right. And this applies to every snob, not just classical music.

Please use this information. I know because I was one of them, and I've lived around them. It's a waste of time, and life to be a snob, or live with them.

    Just enjoy it!

  • @GMJ7

I guess Torley is not alone.

I'm sure this will not be the only here. ;D

  • I agree man, good points to bring up

  • Your inflection is quite vileness.

  • Wow Torley. Awesome rant. I don't think I've heard such an articulate rant before. Love the message, and think it actually pertains to many other styles than classical. We get the snobs and trolls in every genre. Very important message. Cheers!

  • <3 Torley

  • btw Philip Glass, i would really like to see part two of that video

  • your laughs are always so unnatural sounding

  • @LOLSushii George Takai level of naturalness.

  • @LOLSushii Do you mean its Autotuned?.... ;-)

  • You are a genius

  • What you said about snobs... I've noticed that in other musical areas too, it's so annoying to get ridiculed when you try out different kinds of new music (new to the person that is). That's what I hate about the internet, all the elitists, snobs and trolls. I guess the reason you see/hear them more in music related stuff is because music is so personal to people. That's what I think anyways.

  • Very enlightening Rant, i enjoyed it. Like minded and expresser.

    Nathan :)

  • Torley...awesomness weird-ified XD

  • D: TORLEY LINDEN

  • Very strange - I was watching his videos on his channel yesterday, noticing that he hasn't made a video in 2 months, and now he put out a new video just the day after that...

  • @jtfyou yea.... you must be one of those ppl that might consider buying a lottery ticket ......seriously i'm not joking o./
