This is the city imposing on the citizens treating there homes like construction sights, and allowing this to go on. For that job to have been done safely the whole area vunerable to the cranes collapse should have been evacuated. Since that was not possible, the job and crane should never have been allowed to happen. This is example of people being degraded and endangered , putting there lives and living standards second in line to corporation profits , jobs, engineering firms ect.
my father is an engineer here in canada he said that there is only one explanation for the cranes falling all over the place lately, miscalculation by the engineers and to much fucking weight on those cranes period! they should really have competent people instead of morons running the construction sites.
I am a union worker and you can't even imagine how dangerous some jobsites are. Never blow off safety meetings at work because just when you think it can't happen to you it does....huge heartfelt prayers to the families...there is a special bond between union guys....no matter what local or state......
I live in this neighborhood. 2 blocks away. 3 hours before the collapse I was walking back from brunch and I saw this crane bout to lift a huge block of cement 12' wide. It wasn't even roped off and i could have walked right underneath it. I thought first glance. That is too much work for one small crane... Three hours later...
This is exactly WHY we need regulations. What a complete waste. Neighbors complained for weeks about unsafe construction and the city inspectors didn't take them seriously. I hope the survivors of the victims sue the hell out of the crane company and whomever else is responsible. This should never happen.
Look at the footage at the 45 second mark - My first thought - WTF!!! - I'm a New Yorker and that photo that the Associated Press used in this piece is from The World Trade Center collapse - Why, why, why use it for this collapse? There was plenty of available footage of this collapse. It was crass and tasteless, not too mention LYING TO THIER VIEWERS to used WTC imagery. Shame on them!

Somewhere some ATM or security camera must have caught this thing falling. Hopefully it'll get found and posted.
