@MrYotsuki2 yep, when you arrive on anything apart from a normal tourist visa, you have 6 weeks to go down to your local office and apply for your gaijin card, which you are required to walk around with.

I can't understand why your girfriend makes such a low wage. Last time I checked min wage works out to over 1000円 per hour. Even the shit jobss, moving man, convinience store, restraunt, person who cleans the trash on the side of the road make 1000円 per hour.
@TokyoZeplin In the state I live in the minimum wage is like $7.25 and compared to 700 yen which equals around $9.00 thats more than what some people get paid here lol. It's crazy how different worlds think what is a crappy wage (if you're thinking that) thanks for the info.
@MrYotsuki2 just a quicky to say that you are comparing Yen currency rates, that are at a historically high :p In 2008, that would be around 6 or so dollars.
you are so hot. seriously... its your personality... then you are actually good looking after that as well ;D thanks for the videos ! brushing up on my knowledge since I'm thinking of taking the trip!
Wonderful video. It's good to hear about both the light and dark sides of reality. It's hard to get a real perspective on something if you only listen to one side and many people are easily brainwashed by bright, happy illusions. The problem is that they tend to unreasonably defend their illusions. Again, good video.
Great video.. I am here now and so far, your experience is mirroring mine... a ton of people are persistent about "sex" or "massage"... it's odd and then you begin wondering what their life is like in that industry... every time I go outside...
And for the police; it is their job to stop crime, and if you look like a criminal don't be upset and offended when they stop you. It doesn't matter where you live in the world, if you are dressed nice, look clean, healthy etc, the police will leave you alone. So at the risk of sounding mean: if you took a shower, washed your hair, made it umm, one color, and made an effort to not look like a strung-out ferret on meth, the police would almost surely leave you alone (they've never bothered me).
@benhollio1 that's all very nice. Have a look at my videos called "Foreign Crime is Destroying Japan" and "Christmas Shopping is Illegal in Tokyo".
I've been stopped over 10 times now, at all times of the day, wearing all sorts of clothing, with all sorts of hair, all around Tokyo. All while western immigrants are some of the people committing the least crime in Japan, including far less than the Japanese themselves. Racial profilling ain't cool bro (especially when it's even statistically wrong
@TokyoZeplin Well, I haven't had the same experiences at all. But even if the police did stop me to check me out, that's the price I pay for voluntarily moving to Japan. And let's be honest, White dudes do cause all kinds of trouble in Tokyo, especially Americans, Canadians, and Ausies. If there's even a perceived link between race and crime, I think racial profiling is not just acceptable but essential, actually. But again, the police have always left me alone, so I can only comment so much.
I know these are your personal experiences, but they seem like pretty bad experiences. Are you seeking out the bad in society? My fiance and I live in Tokyo and are perfectly content. As for hostess clubs, well, I've never been, and I don't plan on it, so I can only comment so much. But if you don't like that shade of Japanese culture, just don't go to hostess clubs. It's like strip clubs in America, ya they're seedy and gross, so avoid them!

@HajimeNoJMo -The *only* thing "humane", or in even *remotely* positive, that Arpaio has accomplished is his take on animal abuse. Other than that, he is a sadistic and demented individual. What sort of a person feels it is necessary to purchase a *TANK*, especially with tax-payers dollars, in an area where the are no other comparable threats? A little boy who needs his ego to be stroked, and will do whatever is necessary to feel "big". Perhaps you should do more research... <.<;

The age of Consent WAS 13, but after the enjo kosai boom in the 90's, on a prefecture by prefecture basis, the age has generally been raised to 18. The 13 year age limit is still on the books as the general law, but that is overriden by local law.
I'd say, about 75% of this information is based on rumor rather than truth.
@TokyoZeplin cool vid man. Hey if you could answer a couple of questions of mine I would appreciate. I'm fourteen and I always thought it might be cool to spend a few years in a foreign country when I get older and as a westerner how do u get the opportunity to live in country like Japan. I would suspect it would probably have to be job related. And how are y'all doing over there? I'm guessing the earth quake and tsunami has affected your living there.
#10 sex >> well it's partially untrue. if you are a foreigner who wanna get laid, you can't. because most 'shops' prohibit foreigners from doing so even you wish to do so. as told by my friend over there, it's their policy.
hey tokyo Zep i applaud you for taking the time to show the other side , i mean everybody /country does and yes it mostly the positive side i do agree with you , and to Nitto , now after a bad quake and tsunami , not to make light of a subject like that but whos going to help you us "gaijins" my best friend is on stand by now as i type this so shove it!
I just want to know if police are allowed to take pics of someone. last time i forgot my id card in my room, so they brought me on the police station to verify if my visa was ok or something and when they found out that everything was ok, before let me go they started to take pictures of me as I was a criminal. I refused covering my face with my hands... god dammit i think in other countries they don't have this right too. is it ok here?
I'm having problems understanding why I should pay a fine if I get hit by a car and it's none of my fault anyways. This seems to be, not coming together in my head, I don't get the logic or the background of this, I wish I did though. The rest is pretty lot ok, the minimum wages is actually seem higher than in my country (with just a quick head counting, here it's about 200 yen and often under it), that porno age limit seems a bit off, but you said you didn't research it so whatever. Cool vid,
In Norway we don't have so many bad and good things when it comes to social stuff, it's basically just a mixture of everything, it's not so black and white. Just wanted to say that, not comparing.
@TokyoZeplin That was actually my half japanese friend. When a "gaijin" starts saying untrue things about Japan he gets offended. Probably doesn't help that he was drunk too. We do both live in Japan and speak Japanese. (although his is quite a bit better than mine) Just FYI, just because it says living in America, it doesn't mean I'm litterally in America. No hard feelings though.
@N1TTO "When a "gaijin" starts saying untrue things" but it's not untrue :S
And the reason I asked about country, is that first he stated that I had never been to Japan. Then later he said I should get out. Now if he was American, he meant out of America. But if he was Japanese, his sentence was just retarded. First saying I've never been there, then later saying I should leave from where I've never been.
No hard feelings? Dude, who was the rude one here? o0
@N1TTO *sigh* see, when you say stuff like that, it really doesn't give me much other options than just blocking you :( consider this a kind-hearted last warning, and bring just a weeeee bit of manners into the discussion. Criticism is fine, random flaming is pointless and will be removed.
@TokyoZeplin I can't believe how ignorant your videos are. You actually list "kicking" as type of abortion like it rampant in Japan. It happens in America also. You live or have lived there and this is all you want to tell people about? Wow
@hai2you2 If you feel my videos are ignorant, by all means, point out where I'm factually wrong.
Whether it happens in America too or not, I don't really care about. A: because these are videos about Japan, not America, and B: I'm Danish, not American.
I also did not say that it was "rampant" in any way.
And for my reasons to do the videos, I have several videos up on that subject itself. You should check those out.
I've paused the video after the first comment to just add a touch of useful information to that: suicide costs money in North American too. I don't know how it is in Europe, other parts of Asia, or the Middle East, but in North America is someone commits suicide, their family has to pay a fine to the government, I believe.
@elizabethpink Afraid your misinformed. I have never heard of such a thing, nor have I been able to find any information at all that would say that is the case.
If you have an article or reference to law that I can look at, by all means post it.
@TokyoZeplin I'll have to look it up again. It was a discussion I was having with an officer after a cousin of mine committed suicide and her parents were fined about $500 for it (not sure why, exactly). I'll pull out a few law texts from the local University and poke around.
@TokyoZeplin and @LucianUramu It was a number of years ago that I had been discussing it, and I've discovered that the laws have changed since then. It now depends on circumstances (was it public, was someone else affected, etc.), but it's now a case of the family of the suicide victim being sued by whomever might've witnessed the event, or by the owner of property that may have been damaged, etc. So it's a personal thing (which rarely goes to court, because people aren't total jerks).
@TokyoZeplin No, not really. But had this still been 15 or so years ago I would've been right about the law. I didn't consider that it might've changed. ^.^;;
By the way ... hope you're doing at least a little better. It's no fun to be sad all the time. *hugs*
Hey TokyoZeplin! I Love your vids! It really gets down to the facts of whats what and is nice to here from people with actual experience. American girl here and in the US we really do polish the notion of a Japanese lifestyle. Some things are kind of a duh like under aged porn and prostitution period being wrong and them not wanting to and needing to keep your papers on you, good tip, BUT the Suicide thing and your parents having to pay Just not right. Well thanks for everything you do! > ^ .^ <
youre 'guides' are interesting, i mean its japan prolly have 50000 boooks and guides written about it, some may even be quite detailed but realy cut the to the chase i wana hear someone say it aloud straight. guess its great ur not american, else all youd be talking about is some manga/hentai/sushi lol! its like americans talking about holand can only only think amsterdam or carlsberg when comes to denmark
Very funny video, I am thinking about moving to tokyo for a few months, so it is really good to know all this things in advance... Greetings from Costa Rica...
somday il go there and have all the teenage sex in the world :D and those erotic massages where the girls are all frightened :)) oo yea that the child molestors fantasy
Hey, first time watcher and can I just say....ur BLOODY AWESOME...even though there seems to be a lot of bad stuff...how come's u still remain in Japan?...if u've already answered that question in another video..sorry for asking again :D
@Natsuigneel I would recommend checking out my first video (zero) "Background", for why I went in the first place, my latest 4 videos deal with the same subject.
How are You doing Zeplin? I have watched all Your videos and I really like them. Even they are in some way negative but they describe the real life in Japan. I think I understand Your point and personal feelings. We have lots of in common. Give me Your email address.

its so obvious that you are in Japan for the sole purpose for all these negative stuff, none of all your videos are positive about Japan, so please save your rubbish videos to yourself.
@visigoth33 Wait... lemme get this straight... I'm IN Japan (which I am no longer), because I WANT the negative stuff?
Does that actually make sense to you? o0
And how about watching the videos about WHY I almost only make videos on the negative aspects (hint: because everyone else just makes videos about the positive aspects)
@visigoth33 Just so you know, I actually appreciate someone making videos about the negative stuff. It helps whoever is looking into being in Japan prepare themselves for what's really there so they don't get surprised or overwhelmed.
i remember weeds can be sold as high as roughly $80 US/gram in japan. anyways man you got so much info about japan, im learning so much bout my country from ur vid clips. bout peeps in country, im from country side btw. peeps stair at me all the time because all of my friends are from all over the globe and once when i was alone some old fella came up to me and said shame on me hanging out with whites. and they have tendency to see white chicks as a hooker which is really annoying.
Actually you are both correct. The national law is 13, but it depends upon what prefecture you are in. Prefecture law tends to override national law. The minumum wage again depends upon which prefecture.
In my research, I found the the USA (Where I am from,) and Denmark both have higher STD rates and abortion rates.
There is a min. wage, which is about 9$USD in Tokyo.
However, I have interned twice in Japan (once in Tokyo and once in Kyoto) and both of them were for very famous architects. However, nobody pays interns in Japan! It is incredibly hard to pay your way, and they work you at least 65 hours a week. That is a serious issue.
I have lived in Japan for over 16 years. What I disagree with Zeplin are: 1. A no tolerancy policy for drugs is a good thing when I see the damage they've done in the west. 2. Wages are good here especially since salaries are taxed 10%, and yes there is a minimum wage. 3. Why would anyone want to be around people who talk negatively? It makes you seem like the odd one, not Japanese. 4. I have never been stopped by the police(maybe because I don't hang out in loser-gaijin areas like Roppongi).
The whole suicide thing. That's actually suuper sad. I had no idea. I guess I can understand that it gets costly. The last time I was in Tokyo, a suicide occured on one of the lines nd everyone had to reroute. But, what made me sad is the expressionless individuals.. I mean, it was such a normal thing that noone was really shocked. And there were these group of girls whining and that kinda ticked me off.. Anywaaay.. Very informative vid! Sorry for being so somberrr
"like people will walk up to you and they will be like do you want a massage do you want a massage and you like no then other times they whisper you'll get sex and im like yea i get it
I enjoyed this video, but I have to say, I'm a Russian living in Japan, and I'm quite obviously a foreigner, and I've never had anybody treat me differently based upon the fact that I'm a foreigner =/
as for the legal age of 13, that makes sense to Japanese people, because Japan is a sex country and always has been. Everybody is obsessed with sex, it's even in advertising here for god's sake.
It's different in western society because it's predominantly catholic.
A "sex country"? I would say that Japan is very similar to the U.S. in that sexuality is repressed most of the time, which is why advertisements with sex in them are popular.
Even if it was a "sex country", I get the feeling that you see this as a bad thing. Strong desire for sex is a completely normal thing, especially when one is young.
I know almost nothing about Russia, but sex is used heavily in advertising in almost all modernized nations. Everybody wants and needs it.
@DerReisendeGaijin , nope, I most definitely do not see it as a bad thing. And Japan is indeed a sex obsessed country. US is too, but the difference is Japanese society is way more open about it than the US is, by comparison. Dude... if you live in Japan, how can you NOT notice that..?
OK, I should elaborate more. Why do you think you can find pornographic magazines right beside the children's section in bookstores? Why can you see fully nude women in men's fashion magazines? see partial or full frontal nudity on TV without censor? because Japanese society doesn't see sex or sexuality as taboo as we do in the West. They are way more open about it than we are.
I guess you could say it isn't as censored, but look at western europe though. Nude beaches are not uncommon, and you are allowed to show women's breasts on TV and other things that would be totally taboo in the U.S.
What I meant by repressed is that there's still a high value on people being virginal until they get married.
There's love hotels, but how many people would EVER admit to using one outside of their very close group of friends.
oh and Penis festival lol, just felt like saying it
Yes, that's true, but we are specifically talking about Japan..
I met a lot of people who used Love Hotels, they weren't embarrassed or humiliated for going to them =/
maybe you hang out with different people then.
Virginity being valued? in Japan? are you serious...? Didn't you know it's extremely common in Japan for schoolkids (as early as grade 7) to start having sex with each other?
Thank You Man! Thank You! FINALLY! REAL JAPAN!~ Thanks SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEO! FINALLY! UNCENSORED NEWS! THANK YOU! Even though I heard this I still wanna Move and Live in japan. @RUT600 It's a pretty big question, so you'll excuse me if I only answer it briefly:
The most common ways, that I'd suggest you look into (in the future), would be:
Job visa's (you need a minimum of a bachelors degree).
Student visa.
Working holiday visa.

In Norway we don't have so many bad and good things when it comes to social stuff, it's basically just a mixture of everything, it's not so black and white. Just wanted to say that, not comparing.

@N1TTO Hit a nerve?
And yes, it is true. Maybe you can't deal with reality?
And yes, I used to live in Japan. Watch videos?
And "your country"... it says you're living in the US, but I'm Danish? Glad to see you do so deep research on people you go all hillbilly on though.
TokyoZeplin 1 year ago 2
@TokyoZeplin That was actually my half japanese friend. When a "gaijin" starts saying untrue things about Japan he gets offended. Probably doesn't help that he was drunk too. We do both live in Japan and speak Japanese. (although his is quite a bit better than mine) Just FYI, just because it says living in America, it doesn't mean I'm litterally in America. No hard feelings though.
N1TTO 1 year ago

TokyoZeplin 1 year ago
@N1TTO a country is not like the garden of your house, that you have a right to ask someone to get out of it.
kitsune090 11 months ago
@TokyoZeplin I can't believe how ignorant your videos are. You actually list "kicking" as type of abortion like it rampant in Japan. It happens in America also. You live or have lived there and this is all you want to tell people about? Wow
hai2you2 10 months ago
@hai2you2 If you feel my videos are ignorant, by all means, point out where I'm factually wrong.
Whether it happens in America too or not, I don't really care about. A: because these are videos about Japan, not America, and B: I'm Danish, not American.
I also did not say that it was "rampant" in any way.
And for my reasons to do the videos, I have several videos up on that subject itself. You should check those out.

I've paused the video after the first comment to just add a touch of useful information to that: suicide costs money in North American too. I don't know how it is in Europe, other parts of Asia, or the Middle East, but in North America is someone commits suicide, their family has to pay a fine to the government, I believe.
elizabethpink 1 year ago
@elizabethpink Afraid your misinformed. I have never heard of such a thing, nor have I been able to find any information at all that would say that is the case.
If you have an article or reference to law that I can look at, by all means post it.
TokyoZeplin 1 year ago
@TokyoZeplin I'll have to look it up again. It was a discussion I was having with an officer after a cousin of mine committed suicide and her parents were fined about $500 for it (not sure why, exactly). I'll pull out a few law texts from the local University and poke around.
elizabethpink 1 year ago
@TokyoZeplin and @LucianUramu It was a number of years ago that I had been discussing it, and I've discovered that the laws have changed since then. It now depends on circumstances (was it public, was someone else affected, etc.), but it's now a case of the family of the suicide victim being sued by whomever might've witnessed the event, or by the owner of property that may have been damaged, etc. So it's a personal thing (which rarely goes to court, because people aren't total jerks).
elizabethpink 1 year ago
@elizabethpink Sooooo not really the same anyway :S
TokyoZeplin 1 year ago
@TokyoZeplin No, not really. But had this still been 15 or so years ago I would've been right about the law. I didn't consider that it might've changed. ^.^;;
By the way ... hope you're doing at least a little better. It's no fun to be sad all the time. *hugs*
elizabethpink 1 year ago
@elizabethpink
Some cities have tried to push laws like this but they never succeed mainly because of how unpopular it is with the public.

Hey, some of your information is obviously incorrect.
Legal age limit for sex: 18
Legal age limit for being in porn: 18
Minimal wage in Tokyo: 791 yen
Wherever in Japan you are, if you have sex with a high schooler, you will end up in jail.

Actually you are both correct. The national law is 13, but it depends upon what prefecture you are in. Prefecture law tends to override national law. The minumum wage again depends upon which prefecture.

Some of my toughts:
In my research, I found the the USA (Where I am from,) and Denmark both have higher STD rates and abortion rates.
There is a min. wage, which is about 9$USD in Tokyo.
However, I have interned twice in Japan (once in Tokyo and once in Kyoto) and both of them were for very famous architects. However, nobody pays interns in Japan! It is incredibly hard to pay your way, and they work you at least 65 hours a week. That is a serious issue.
Great video, though!

It's different in western society because it's predominantly catholic.
ameIPPAI 2 years ago
You're lucky!
BlackhatSpb 2 years ago
@ameIPPAI
DerReisendeGaijin 1 year ago
@DerReisendeGaijin , nope, I most definitely do not see it as a bad thing. And Japan is indeed a sex obsessed country. US is too, but the difference is Japanese society is way more open about it than the US is, by comparison. Dude... if you live in Japan, how can you NOT notice that..?
ameIPPAI 1 year ago
OK, I should elaborate more. Why do you think you can find pornographic magazines right beside the children's section in bookstores? Why can you see fully nude women in men's fashion magazines? see partial or full frontal nudity on TV without censor? because Japanese society doesn't see sex or sexuality as taboo as we do in the West. They are way more open about it than we are.
ameIPPAI 1 year ago
I guess you could say it isn't as censored, but look at western europe though. Nude beaches are not uncommon, and you are allowed to show women's breasts on TV and other things that would be totally taboo in the U.S.
What I meant by repressed is that there's still a high value on people being virginal until they get married.
There's love hotels, but how many people would EVER admit to using one outside of their very close group of friends.
oh and Penis festival lol, just felt like saying it
DerReisendeGaijin 1 year ago
Yes, that's true, but we are specifically talking about Japan..
I met a lot of people who used Love Hotels, they weren't embarrassed or humiliated for going to them =/
maybe you hang out with different people then.
Virginity being valued? in Japan? are you serious...? Didn't you know it's extremely common in Japan for schoolkids (as early as grade 7) to start having sex with each other?
maybe that's why virginity is "highly valued" lol
