@karsseboomh22 ehh IDK about that dude, I don't own a SHO but I do own a newer TLs and they are not that fast, they are more for luxury unless you pump a bunch of money into them, My other car which is a suv is a 2007 mitsu outlander which is they exact same thing as a lancer but in a v6 suv form and even that has schoold my acura, I think older acuras were made to be fast but not really the newer ones.
I used to have an ABP TL-S just like that one and it was a high 14 second car so that' pretty impressive for an old SHO with high mileage to win that easily.

Nice video. Knew the outcome before watching it though. My friend used to have a '92 Taurus SHO w/5-speed and I used to have a '99 3.2TL and we had the same results as above. From a dig it's a bit more even. Both are great cars for road trips.
Oh and Karl my 3.2TL kept up with an '01 Mustang Bullitt from a 40-100 roll and my friends SHO was a hair faster then my TL. The Bullitt only put a 1/3 of a car on me in that time. From a dig he murdered me. Something like 6 cars in the 1/4. Damn VTEC.
You n00bs, first off I assure this is legit, the engine in that SHO is a yamaha high output known to spank 4.7 mustangs all day. Second, it's 5-spd the acura isn't you need to factor in a 12-17percent powerloss due to this. Also your buddy may be able to beat a 740 but that could be a weight difference ie could he beat a 540?

Not much of an import tuner fan here but I don't get why you call Hondas crap. They are some of the most reliable, economical and efficient cars out there while still offering performance. The Taurus SHO lost it's balls in 1996-1999. Performance was reduced to no faster than the same year V6 Accords. 2003+ Accords and TL's walk all over it. Your friend in the Mustang GT is just toying with you.

The tl type S quickest version is the 2007 version in my opinion which my brother has he has the 6 MT and he ran a 13.9 THE BEST the regular tl type S if manual is usually 14 second flat and if automatic like you said usually low 14s around 14.2 or so that is DEFINATELY not 13.5 lol! the tl type s weighs around 3900 pounds for it to run 13.5 it would have to lose atleast 600-700 pounds lmao! that's like losing a cow.

My 2001 SLS is ALL top-end power, so it doesn't pull hard until 4,000 RPM and up. Off the line, a mid-90's Mustang GT 5.0 w/ a 5-speed was able to jump me hard off the line, but once I hit my powerband, I began to catch up and then pulled on him pretty good. I knew the driver in it and he's all Mustang, all the time, lol.

yea it seems like you have a very strong 3rd gear. TL's are weak after 105mph in 4th - but up until a 100 mph a TL is pretty fast. a TL is relaxed cruiser above 100 and they will do 155mph stock. whats the top speed of SHO?
not necessarly true...I've beaten an 89 SHO from a roll back in 1994 when i had my bone stock 1986 Mustang GT. He was on me about 2 cars back....But i beat him from a 60 mph roll...We raced all out more than 2 miles on a straight stretch and he couldn't catch me and i couldn't walk away from him. The GT's have alot more low end punch which mean they will get a bigger push from start and the SHO simply will not catch it.86, 87-93 GT's are capable of nearly 150 as well.

I've raced my friend's Taurus with the 3.0L in it and quite frankly....it's a slug. His power off the line was horrible. I'd launch off the line and he fell behind at least 2 car lengths. Iraced him in a '91 Pontiac Bonneville and pulled on him the whole time....while the engine was revving high (my old 3.8 has shitty top-end too....)
Whats the problem is that isnt a basis for comparison since the 3.0L vuclan is a OHV pushrod engine and AFAIK the bonneville's have DOHC engines. Which tend to make power pretty constantly.
You're correct about the Vulcan, but Bonnevilles don't have twin-cam engines. My engine is an old "3800" LN3 (3.8L V6). It's an OHV pushrod engine like the Vulcan. It's got a 90-degree angle engine block made of cast-iron alloy (very heavy) and cast-iron alloy heads. My engine peaks in torque at a mere 2,000 RPM and peaks in horsepower at 4,800 RPM. It shifts higher than it's supposed to at around 6,000 RPM, but that's too high for my engine. Basically, it's a lower-revving torque block.
oh ok, my friend's bonneville has a DOHC, so I just figured. I kinda realized now that I dont think American cars had DOHC in the early 90's. Idk what it is about my Vulcan that makes it so powerless, that's why i'm in the process of rebuilding it and tuning it to make upwards of 250 HP. My goal is at least 265. But I want to make 300. I have no ideas what hurdles i will have to overcome. I will be supercharging it. But right now my projects are on hold. Transmission blew out. Frickn AX4N's..
Oh, is your friend's Bonneville a newer one? If so, he probably has the Cadillac V8 in it, which IS a twin-cam engine (and mighty strong too). Yeah, the V8 Bonnevilles are no joke. You know, the direct competitor to the Taurus was the Lumina, and to the SHO was the Lumina Z34 which had a twin-cam V6 also and either a 4-speed auto or 5-speed manual (much rarer with the manual).
I'm well aware of that. My friend's Taurus is just a base model *raspberry*, lol. An SHO is easy to spot, and a plain Taurus makes me laugh. Even though I'm not a Ford guy AT ALL, I'd certainly like to get my hands on an SHO......or a Ford Lightning.
at lower speeds SHO's are great...theyre known for having great mid-range and keeping most it for top-end. the 2nd vid where they ran from a 20 shows the excellent mid-range of the yamahammer SHO
This seemed pretty even, i drive a 93' ATX SHO (2nd gen) and my new car is a 05' Acura TL ATX (3rd gen, one in video is 2nd Gen) I do think the 3rd Gen TL is faster than my SHO.
I love how the Secondaries on the SHO open up and you really feel it pulling harder. (Around 4k RPM) VTEC opens up pretty late on my TL around 6k? and it pulls pretty good but way to late in the RPM in my opinion.
My SHO has had quite a few matinence issues though i got it at 80k (now 203k), but overall a very fun car
It's just a tad quicker than the last generations...6-speed is the way to go if you want performance out of the TL Type S. I've heard people have run 13.9 stock in the 1/4th which isn't bad. It's only got 286hp compared to other competitors.
yeah.....But I grew out of the manual shifter, All my previous cars were manual im a bit older now and want a bit more out of my daily driver than just a aggressive power house...I am more interested in apeal, charater and stle but more comfortable luxury than anything else now...I used to drive a WRX and that was a blast..I am more willing to sacrifice performance now then before...
to be honest man is350 is a wonderful but wonderful choice man.. the car is very smooth and quiet.. but VERY VERY fast at the same time.. now in the case of isf its just a bit bigger and A LOT FASTER.. that thing is a beast.. my dad works on lexus and his company car was is350 he used to do 35 to around 39mpg.. and in is f we made 29.6 city and highway both.. but the isf feels a bit ruffer on the streets but still smooth nad is silent cause the windows are titanium oxide
SHO's are really fast cars....Hell i remember when they first came out back in the day....Shit those SHO's were beating guys who had slightly modded Mustang GT's....If the GT driver couldn't get those Gears the SHO would take em apart.
I believe catless is the way to go...In fact, I'm not sure if they have a configuration that allows you to keep the cats on. Most Y-Pipes came from SHOSHOP, don't know who has them in stock, now...could try NESHO.
I love my SHO :) 94 SHO, red. I need to put some money into it, it needs a new power steering pump and some tune ups. I've never really let my SHO go all out just because I'm 16 and I don't wanna lose my license :P It's so nice when the car gets up to 6-7k RPMS and you hear the engine.
i am trying to get back into the shoes because they keep on pulling me back to them haha when i first got rid of my 2nd gen i kicked my self really hard because it was an awesome car...so now im looking for a MTX 2nd gen so if you know of anyone selling theres let me know haha

The tl type S quickest version is the 2007 version in my opinion which my brother has he has the 6 MT and he ran a 13.9 THE BEST the regular tl type S if manual is usually 14 second flat and if automatic like you said usually low 14s around 14.2 or so that is DEFINATELY not 13.5 lol! the tl type s weighs around 3900 pounds for it to run 13.5 it would have to lose atleast 600-700 pounds lmao! that's like losing a cow.

My 2001 SLS is ALL top-end power, so it doesn't pull hard until 4,000 RPM and up. Off the line, a mid-90's Mustang GT 5.0 w/ a 5-speed was able to jump me hard off the line, but once I hit my powerband, I began to catch up and then pulled on him pretty good. I knew the driver in it and he's all Mustang, all the time, lol.

no prob just trying to clear things up for the people that really don't know a whole lot about these cars. also if you or anyone ever thinks about buying a 96+up SHO make sure the previous onwer had the cams welded or other wise your screwed. i can't wait for the 2010 SHO it has a twin turbo 3.5L V6 making 365bhp and it is AWD so it is already faster than the 2010 mustang and the 2010 base model ls camaro and Z/28 i think it might be a dead tie with the ss tho.

yea it seems like you have a very strong 3rd gear. TL's are weak after 105mph in 4th - but up until a 100 mph a TL is pretty fast. a TL is relaxed cruiser above 100 and they will do 155mph stock. whats the top speed of SHO?

not necessarly true...I've beaten an 89 SHO from a roll back in 1994 when i had my bone stock 1986 Mustang GT. He was on me about 2 cars back....But i beat him from a 60 mph roll...We raced all out more than 2 miles on a straight stretch and he couldn't catch me and i couldn't walk away from him. The GT's have alot more low end punch which mean they will get a bigger push from start and the SHO simply will not catch it.86, 87-93 GT's are capable of nearly 150 as well.

I've raced my friend's Taurus with the 3.0L in it and quite frankly....it's a slug. His power off the line was horrible. I'd launch off the line and he fell behind at least 2 car lengths. Iraced him in a '91 Pontiac Bonneville and pulled on him the whole time....while the engine was revving high (my old 3.8 has shitty top-end too....)

Whats the problem is that isnt a basis for comparison since the 3.0L vuclan is a OHV pushrod engine and AFAIK the bonneville's have DOHC engines. Which tend to make power pretty constantly.

You're correct about the Vulcan, but Bonnevilles don't have twin-cam engines. My engine is an old "3800" LN3 (3.8L V6). It's an OHV pushrod engine like the Vulcan. It's got a 90-degree angle engine block made of cast-iron alloy (very heavy) and cast-iron alloy heads. My engine peaks in torque at a mere 2,000 RPM and peaks in horsepower at 4,800 RPM. It shifts higher than it's supposed to at around 6,000 RPM, but that's too high for my engine. Basically, it's a lower-revving torque block.

oh ok, my friend's bonneville has a DOHC, so I just figured. I kinda realized now that I dont think American cars had DOHC in the early 90's. Idk what it is about my Vulcan that makes it so powerless, that's why i'm in the process of rebuilding it and tuning it to make upwards of 250 HP. My goal is at least 265. But I want to make 300. I have no ideas what hurdles i will have to overcome. I will be supercharging it. But right now my projects are on hold. Transmission blew out. Frickn AX4N's..

Oh, is your friend's Bonneville a newer one? If so, he probably has the Cadillac V8 in it, which IS a twin-cam engine (and mighty strong too). Yeah, the V8 Bonnevilles are no joke. You know, the direct competitor to the Taurus was the Lumina, and to the SHO was the Lumina Z34 which had a twin-cam V6 also and either a 4-speed auto or 5-speed manual (much rarer with the manual).

This seemed pretty even, i drive a 93' ATX SHO (2nd gen) and my new car is a 05' Acura TL ATX (3rd gen, one in video is 2nd Gen) I do think the 3rd Gen TL is faster than my SHO.
I love how the Secondaries on the SHO open up and you really feel it pulling harder. (Around 4k RPM) VTEC opens up pretty late on my TL around 6k? and it pulls pretty good but way to late in the RPM in my opinion.
My SHO has had quite a few matinence issues though i got it at 80k (now 203k), but overall a very fun car

It's just a tad quicker than the last generations...6-speed is the way to go if you want performance out of the TL Type S. I've heard people have run 13.9 stock in the 1/4th which isn't bad. It's only got 286hp compared to other competitors.

to be honest man is350 is a wonderful but wonderful choice man.. the car is very smooth and quiet.. but VERY VERY fast at the same time.. now in the case of isf its just a bit bigger and A LOT FASTER.. that thing is a beast.. my dad works on lexus and his company car was is350 he used to do 35 to around 39mpg.. and in is f we made 29.6 city and highway both.. but the isf feels a bit ruffer on the streets but still smooth nad is silent cause the windows are titanium oxide
