First off, you should be proud that he VOLUNTEERED for the program! You can not be MADE to go! Everyone that goes to Y.C.P. gets two home passes and two days where family and friends get to come and visit. Don;t understand why you won't see him until Graduation??! In order to enroll in the program, you have to talk with one of our counselors and you HAVE TO BE A VOLUNTEER. With two family day visits and two home passes, you basically get to see your people once a month!

@bmirish33 You have to volunteer for our program, you can't be sent here. Yes you do have to get a haircut but it grows back, at least on most men, Since you like Z-Ro, then you need to listen to his song "Don't Be Like Me". Get your education so you can get your paper right !!

@bmirish33 Yes you do. You live in a military style barracks and go to school Monday through Friday. The program last 22 weeks and you you get 2 family day visits and 2 passes to go home on. Start in February and have your GED by July.

My grandson recently went into the Camp Minden. After only 2 weeks he called home begging for someone to come get him. He says he's been beaten on and made to sleep outside in the rain. His family think he's making it up but I tend to believe him. Are they good to you in there or do they beat on the young boys? I'd really like to know how he's being treated.

We do not abuse kids. Some children are not used to military discipline, having to exercise daily or held accountable for their actions. The first two weeks is the time when they have to learn how to march, follow instructions and exercise properly. They will tell you it was raining cats and dogs, and one of them scratched him on the way down if they felt you would believe it and come get him. Spoil him more or let him grow up.

what are the ages requirement for Job Challenge Program? When I was in YCP it was 16-24. Have they lowered it?

@SHIVEBOI they shut down Job Challenge. When the budget cuts came around it had to be closed down. We instead work with local vocational and technical schools to help get cadets enrolled.

It would be kind of hard to say yours was harder if you only went to yours. The National Guard ChalleNGe Programs are set pretty much to the same standards. The ones that don't finish or don't try to comply, will claim our program is hard. The other 85% will say after the first two weeks, it was easy and the best thing they could have done.

yes you get to keep the boots and i went through the program and graduated top ten out of 300 people and i am still unemployed

Each program has it's on rules. Here we do allow braids, but if the nurse requires you to unbraid your hair for a health and hygiene check, you will have to.

@gcalford1123 no, its not that they make ppl take them out for a health and hygene check they dont allow braids AT ALL. as in NO braids EVER. and It hard for me since I'm african american and have very thick hair and I dont relax my hair so ever morning if my hair isnt braided its matted up and tangled in the back.

he living is alright, you each get a bunk, you eat everyday at same times, exercise, and you get 2 family days and 2 passes

Lol Just got on the 13th of june as a five star. That program was I recognize alot of the cadre in this vid like MSGT Taylor and Captain Johnson. Its a great challenge for the kids.

Don"t worry about that. The majority of the kids who enter the program are just like you. They will start you off at a level you can do, you will be amazed how quickly you will improve, and it will make you feel better physically as well as mentally. You made a good choice. Good luck!
