i'm so glad i kept both this game and my original SNES in working condition, no amount of hd or rendering or anything could replace hearing it straight from the source ^_^
Darn kids... I tell ya, back in my day, we played on TWO dimensions! There was no analog-stick, motion sensitive, rumble feedback nonsense! There were no physics engine or bump-mapping eye candy, just pre-rendered graphics and pixels! And you know what, we still had more fun than you lot! You wouldn't know a good game if it bit you in the face! Games used to have value, now they just make a short single player mode and then put the rest of their work into multiplayer!
and nowadays we're all crankies, complaining 'bout graphics-whores, who'll never understand the difference between games from the 90's and present games
It didn't quite happen like that. The stamper brothers owned 51% of Rare and Nintendo owned 49%. The brothers tried selling their percentage of the company to Nintendo back in 2001 and Nintendo declined the offer. Then Activision and Microsoft got into a bidding war over the 51% of Rare. Microsoft won, purchased the 51% which gave them a majority of the developer. Nintendo then sold their 49% of the company to Microsoft since they no longer saw Rare as a valuable asset. It's a shame I know.
Did you ever realize they could only use 3 synths at a time on this game? It's very obvious in Stickerbush Symphony. When one synth comes in, another disappears. And yet David Wise still composed all this great music with that limitation!
I personally think this one is better, but the Ocarina of Time soundtrack is pretty amazing. I was certainly a gamer during the second half of the 80's when I was little, but I never really got into the Zelda games.
But come on... this is on an old 16-bit 2D console and to be honest, it's worlds above even the OoT soundtrack. I think that gives it some bonus points.
I can't think of a soundtrack that's better than this one.
Holy shit, good times.

I still don't understand how Nintendo could sell Rare to Microsoft, when they were making games like this and others as well.

I'm surprised how much worse the DK64 music sounds than the music in the SNES Donkey Kong games.

Yep, you're right. DKC2 had one of the greatest soundtracks in the history of gaming.

for sure. The only game that I really think compares is the Zelda games
