The problem is that you are using your left brain to understand a right brain subject. It does not have to be understood in a linear fashion. If you stand on the edge of an abyss, what does your mind do? Ideally, your mind stops thinking. Just enjoy the view or look elsewhere. I try and explain what I am painting, but I want people to simply enjoy what they see and make their own interpretations. See my Facebook page where I often explain more. Michael
I am trying to understand Parkes art. Could someone explain to me his obsession with swans accompanying ladies with polar wings. His art always seems to be based on high summits where only a small peak of a "ground" as we asssume it to be is drawn but the rest is just sky.
I love Parkes art...Since I discover a catalogue in a library...Simply a thin suspire of a dream (sorry for my bad english!). And this music (what music is this?) is perfect do describe a Venus...
Well aint that the purdiest thang I ever did saw! Embellished and with real gold too. I is gonna get me one o' them fur my trailer. Are them thar paintens available on real black velvet yet? That would bring tears to my eyes f'sure...
This comment about Michael's new work is a funny one! It's great that the person likes his older work so much. But the comment about Michael's new work is not in keeping with the general critical and fan acclaim Michael's new work is receiving. John Russell Taylor, art critic for the London Times and art contributor to the New York Times recently said: (quote is immediately below)
"In Surrealism, there is always a sense of stress and [the] blues beneath the smooth and soigné surface. Maybe there was a touch of that in Parkes at the beginning of his latest phase: the clowns and dwarfs could seem threatening, not all the animals had their claws safely sheathed. But Parkes always seemed to be at least hankering after calm and tranquility, and in his latest works he has achieved it.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it seems that most collectors and experts are appreciating Michael's new work more than ever. That many still love his older work is just wonderful too; it shows Michael's work stands the test of time, and has earned its place in art history.

About 15 yrs ago....i started with one of his prints. I had a hole bunch of his work...but they were stolen. His work reminded me of kind of how my style is. He was an inspiration, started me painting again. All artists have their quirks.I like the thing he does with mirrors to look at his paintings in different ways. If I had $ to create more...And do more pottery.I could develop myself like that...I just make art out of whatever I can get my hands on.Will always love his work. Thanks 4 posting!
Mr. Parkes is such a complicated man, and I love paintings that tell a story. Because I saw this video, I am amazed at how much significance every item holds. Thanks for sharing this video. I also love how spiritual (even if I don't hold the same ideas) his paintings are, and how serene...
I thought pictures were special to each individual viewer, to create unique feelings to each viewer ... it is really interesting to hear what the Artist was thinking ... so different from what I think
A viewer's thoughts on a painting are also valid, even if they are different to the artist's. I am happy when my work causes a person to explore their imagination. Michael Parkes
In my humble opinion, the subject content of Michael's art is way beyond where a mere mortals imagination can comprehend. That he is able to convey these minds eye images to us through his artistic prowess is equally obtuse. Is he a throwback from some far off galaxy I wonder ?
Thank's for sharing this video with us! It helps us appreciate what a cultured gentleman Mr. Parkes is. Also I just admired the paintings for their esthetic beauty without being aware of their deep spiritual meanings, this opens up a new door for me.
i adore his work and wish so much he would exhibit in london

Thank you Idrusa71. The music is from Iraqi folk music about an ancient ritual dance in Sumerian time.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
The only thing that is sad is your obvious lack of art education that would've allowed you to constructively critique a piece.
