  • 5 people who dislike this video are - F A G S.

  • This is the same person that says on the 10-year aniversary that we have wasted a decade post 9/11. What a shame that CNN gives a mouth piece to someone who hates America so much.

  • Well said Mr. Zakaria, well said.

  • Poor San47di. Must be depressed by now. Its very easy to criticize US politics, but I'm starting (just a bit) to feel sorry for the American voter. At least y'all are the first to notice that the 'global free market' is bull - it happened to you first, and you've seen the REAL results first too, according to Zakaria. If only we in the UK, could, too...

  • Thank you, Zakaria. You mentioned that we are falling behind in education, science, etc. A major reason for that is the amount of money we are spending on military defense, more than all other countries behind. See article in the NY Times, 3-13-11, on military boondoggles and the money that could be saved.

  • fuck farrreeeddd leave the country scumbag

  • all fareed has in mind is globalization and socialism.. the United states government is out of control, between theyr theft and oppressive regulating of the american people, mostly through lies and brainwashing, most americans dont even know what freedom is...perhaps before we let socialistic tyranny ruin the world, americans will wake up and discover the value of preserving theyr rights as free people... some of us will not be your slaves.. we wont participate in your collective tyranny

  • @longfootbuddy You're an idiot. That's all the effort I'm willing to spend on you.

  • @StfnHn fair enough, ill just call you a simple minded fool, and leave it at that.. my pearls arent for you swine, they are for people with sense enough to recognize the truth when they hear it

  • @longfootbuddy It's humorous that you would consider them to be your pearls. I think you got these from a certain right wing pundit.

I could say that I'm amazed by how easily people are manipulated by him, but I'd be lieing. Frankly, I generally blame a lack of education.

So please, get one. Glenn Beck university doesn't count.

  • @StfnHn i dont like glenn beck...its from the bible.. dont cast pearls before swine...regardless of where it comes from, its a wise saying, and is relevant in a case like this, where im arguing truth with a fool like youself, that doesnt know shit from shinola...your a dumbass that pretends your wise.. a typical democrat

  • @longfootbuddy I fail to see why my comment would suggest I don't know the meaning or the origin of the saying, as you derived from it. It's pretty obvious I was extending the allegory, but then again, it's my fault for overestimating your intellectual capabilities to comprehend that. Thank you for proving my point again though.

  • @StfnHn dream on

  • so much in just 5 minutes. seems I have to watch more of Fareed Zakaria. He talks so much sense (what I had been guessing of U.S.... he is proving it with facts). Thank you..

  • No matter what way we look at it the West is going to have to embrace the east and work on there problems.I agree with Zareed. It is right in our faces and yet we fail to see it.The west needs to broaden their horizons and unite to gain prosperity and have peace.

  • Zakaria recently in an article put down Ahmadinejad! He did not read "Ahmadinejad punished my Christian mother's rapist" at google!

  • I like fareed zakaria gps on CNN!!! On some points hes wrong, but on most of THE points hes right!! But iam glad that America has now started seeing that THE world is changing and other powers are rising!! And america has to be 2 steps ahead of them in Every field!! Obama is gonna make sure that that happen!!

  • A leftty guy grown up in India with hatred to US and preaching redistribution of wealth. United states achieved its success by its principles and disciplines of liberty, independnece and hard work. So plase shut up and stick to your CNN stupid show.

  • @speedish77 That's funny because on another video people accuse him of being a pro-U.S. sellout. I guess since he receives criticism from all sides that means he's probably pretty objective. And for the record, supporting free trade (which Fareed is doing here) is not supporting redistribution of wealth, in fact it's the exact opposite.

  • Zakaria was raised in Mumbay India as most of the muslims from there with a notion that America is evil. He came to US, studied in ivy league universities and has extrame left views. I am a PhD holder and is in research for last 10 years. US is investing lot of money in research to improve technology. In the case of India or China, the development you see is just limited to the big cities. Millions live in India and China with no electricity, food, roads or drinking water.

  • @speedish77 Keep your words for yourself, you boastful idiot.

  • Presidents come and go. They are puppet of US financial systems. So do not blame anything on presidents. Worry about the things that control presidents.

  • Americans are brainless or dumb beyond imagination

The egotistical Bush bankrupts this country by taking us to unnecessary war.

The only interest Americans have is to please Zionists at all costs.

The Zionists have looted the American banking system, and yet America is still sending billions to Israel.

The western counties are all slaves of the Zionist, and the media house propaganda because the Zionist controls our corrupt politicians.

  • @etano1 Also, how many children have you adopted? Thanks.

  • @etano1 say hi to glenn beckistan for me :)

  • Yo! Obama is neither the problem nor the solution. This is not a question of democrat v republican it is a matter of rationality v irrationality. When you invade a country whos GDP is less than your defense budget for example you must either have some really compelling evidence or you have alternate motives. Those alternate motives are why this country is so fucked up. America is a corporation where the CEO's are more concerned with getting THEIR share than running the company.

  • @etano1 I just want to correct you on one thing. In 10 years america will be bankrupt, but not because of "tax slavery" but because of government stupidity. Our government is a dumb motherfucker when it comes to money.

  • @mynameisabag stop blaming someone else- it is WE the people who are dumb and are responsible. Blaming government is absolutely ridiculous. Have a great evening :)

  • @tristramshandy3 Yes, we are responsible, not for Bush's or Obama's actions but for electing them and for allowing a culture of ignorance to grow within the political system! The government is still responsible for the mistakes they spend their time and effort to carry out, we are merely to blame for allowing such stupidity to exist--that is a reflection unto WE the people. If you fail to see how governments are responsible for their actions you might as well give up democracy and ask for a king

  • @mynameisabag If I can be the king, fine; otherwise, I'll stick with our broken oligarchy.

  • @etano1 Wow, how "mythical" you are!! Obama has been in office less then 1.5 years & already you're accusing him of murder??! LOL Get a Life & stop listening to Faux fake News & the airhead Sarah Palins of the World!1

  • @etano1 You are totally delusional and extremely ill-informed.

  • you xenophobic, provincial sluts :)

  • we must stop playing games (monopoly) and start doing real work like building a machine that can build more machines to make are lives easier than focus on creating clean energy devices and build another robot to build these machine these tool that we need really what do we really need politics or technology...think about...EX: pencil cars planes ect..wake up my people my brothers and sisters we are one.

  • In a way I agree with this man.

  • There will more of this man in years to come. Mark it.

  • that's because in america "free market" may not have the same meaning.

in third world countries, "free market" means individuals should be free from the economic directives of institutions.

in america, "free market" means institutions, or corperations, get to direct the market, especially the major ones, and individuals are subject to them.

"free" is a very ambiguous word.

  • Our country can survive the current mess if we all embrace Kennedy"s urgent message: "Ask NOT what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your couintry."

Wake up apathetic, lazy, selfish Americans! It's time we shoulder some of the responsibility.

  • What the fuck do I owe to my country?

A country is a wad of dirt dominated by a group of tank wielding thugs.

Kennedy is a politician. A thug. Nobody to be idolized.

  • YOU OWE ME A GODDAMN BEER!

  • his show doesn't do him much justice...

  • EW MAN THATS GAY

  • this guy touched me with his words

  • THATS DISGUSTING!

  • Good deliverance by Zakaria

  • A deep respect for Fareed Zakaria.

  • @UTubeHelsinki sad! he is a NWO mouthpeice.

  • @UTubeHelsinki You probably would have had a deep respect for Hitler if you were there 80 years ago.

  • Americans are brain dead, so you get brain dead politicians. Its that simple. Representative democracy would work if the electorate was more educated about things, but they aren't.

  • the majority never wins because the majority never vote. check the voting numbers. more people vote for american idol than in our elections. face ladies and gentlemen, we DESERVE everything we have coming to us. Disease, famine, corrupt government officials. We could have stopped this but I guess that gay kid on AI or your new iphone was more important than your rights and liberties. Lets see how well that iphone helps you during the fall. I hope they have an "app" for the end of america

  • every population gets the govt it deserves

  • do you think I can rest my balls on your keyboard?

  • that's all u can think of huh? balls . .lol

  • AMERICAN EBALLS ON THE WAY!

  • WHY YES SIRE

  • A well compelling and very logical argument made by Fareed Zakaria. The anti-intellectual ideology that conservatives hold dear is what has contibuted to the decline of our education system and the ability to compete globally. Ideology in america today is not what it was decades ago.

  • For globalization to work, America can't be afraid to act like the almighty superpower that it is. The hidden hand

of the market will never work without a hidden fist. With growing corruption and censorship, and disappearing freedoms to military powers, one can compare the apparent path of the American Empire to that of any great empire which has come and gone.

  • Our founding fathers' only warning was to keep power in the hands of the people. We have moved so far right, that we don't even mind that the power has been lost to the hands of the few. Point proven thank you very much :)

  • In order for the American Empire to sustain itself in the future, the people of the United States will have to accept military excursions such as Afghanistan and Iraq for the reasons which relate to the furtherance of The American Empire. They have been bullshitted for the last time by Bush/Cheney. The American military, the enforcement arm of The Empire, will no survive without a draft, because the young people of America will not die for the multi-national corporations.

  • I agree with Mr. Zakari..... US should assess its policies again.

  • America is seeing its politics at the worst in the whole of its history as its policies are not right and the problems to be addressed are getting worsened. It seems to have thus lost the ability of achieving short term gains of things that matter because of a feel of supremacy it has always had about itself. Its foreign policy indicates the unwillingness to get in the game. It needs a shift of attitude in not talking to dictators for improving the conditions there and for the sake of its image.

  • Don't worry. Obama "gets it." How did you like his speech in the MidEast? Changing the course of our country is largely the job of the "youth" of every country. America's youth spoke loudly when Pres. Obama was elected. Now the World is listening to the U.S. like never before with hope in their hearts. I'm grateful to be alive in America to see the anticipated transformations occur

  • Umm, you think America can just magically brush aside it's problems simply by having elected Obama? I would agree with you on the subject of Obama's influence on the youth, and his conciliatory gestures of the world. But he has done very little to truly change the status quo. I have not seen a practical application of his preached ideology in his actions. Surely he is better than Bush, but if you want America to be out of its current grave you need far more effort and time.

  • I agree with the last staement, we do need more effort and more time. Don't just say it, but support that issue! The man has only been in office 6 months. You expect instant changes for conditions it took 9 years to develop?? Get Real. We are cowards as a nation. Afraid to try sometyhing new!! This BS non-debate on health care is a primary example. We say we want positive change on one hand and like cowards we shrink from it because its the unknown by the uneducated!

  • @San47di I wish I shared your optimism but I just see aesthetic change nothing meaningful. In the economic world Bush is Hoover and Obama is FDR, they are doing the exact same thing over again and what hoover and roosevelt did back then created and prolonged the great depression. Just as Fareed said we must be willing to accept some pain to move forward, we as a nation cant so we borrow and borrow and borrow, we are getting fat without even paying for our food!

  • @mynameisabag That's the way it might "appear" to you, but I look at the far-reaching effects. Let's see whether you still see it that way in another year. We Must give it time. No one can turn it around within the short time spand he's had.

  • @San47di No, a stimulus package requires borrowing money for the purpose of delaying americans from feeling the pain they earned from their heedless spending during the stock market and real estate bubbles. Yes, obama IS positive change but only in the smallest of ways but he does not even come close to what we REALLY need. Hes fundamentally the same as his predecessors. Listen to some economists like Tom Woods or Peter Schiff.

  • @San47di anticipated transformations = New World Order.

  • @San47di

obama is a good speaker but no balls. He has no father figure so he thinks he has to lick everyone's ass to get something done.

  • @San47di lol obama is the fact reason why people are ignoring you... lol

  • @San47di Obama is almost done with his first term and we have seen our problems become more politically petty and polarizing then ever before, and our greatest problems on Wall Street, with the housing market, and social security have been untouched while our public education system continues to fall behind the rest of the world. Obama has been outmatched by the Republicans frequently, and he is certainly very vulnerable to Romney this go around. I would be more worried if I were you.

  • MNC's and TNC's are on point, as Zakaria notes.

But like he says, who's gonna break it to the masses? Obama? Change? I guyess that IS a start but he's so vague, and all the globalization media barrage isnt being received as expected. North Americans are retreating into their shells: peak oil crew, environmental extremists, the polyanists etc.

I guess its up to the globally aware to push this thing through and make sure it doesnt get still born...

  • tha is what 2 terms of Bush would do to you ..........beware of the " false conservative"

  • American diplomats went around the world. Americans. I don't want attack other countries.(as Zakaria wanted to attack Iraq) I don't want to defend other countries. We can do fine on our own. We can prosper and keep our civil liberties if we relearn to mind our own business.

    LONG LIVE COL. LINDBERGH

  • We have wasted resources on the rest of the world. Lets take care of ourself. Nonintervention in other affairs. Entanglement with none.

  • I agree with this guy. We can get it back too. We should be looking for a way to expand the foreign embassies we have here into whole sovereign cities. We need to boldly retake the leading edge of political leadership in the search for ways to achieve a lasting global peace.

  • @ryer46..

america ranks 13th not the 1st in the quality of life index - as per the The Economist Intelligence Units quality-of-life index, 2005. And you still think ur the best?

  • "this closing down/dumbing down of america is a direct result of conservatism having power for the last 20/30 years."

No, it's the fact that americans are dumb as shit, both conservative and liberal. Oh, and also greedy, ignorant, and arrogant as well.

    Game over bitches!

  • You wouldnt beleive the dirty looks i get from Americans just for learning Chinese & Korean. Fareed is right, young people like me do get the globalized world we live in, its the Rush Limbaugh crowd and I would dare add some older libs as well who dont get it.

  • this closing down/dumbing down of america is a direct result of conservatism having power for the last 20/30 years..the anti-intellectual ideology that conservatives hold dear is what has contibuted to the decline of our education system and the ability to compete globally..there is a perverse hostility towards international interaction...a bloated since of self(national) importance that has made it easier for other countries to surpass us in many areas without us even knowing or caring about it

  • Blah. It's inevitable. So is our mass death after this exponential growth.

  • i agree with his points here, however, if you read this guys columns in newsweek, and understand finance, it is very clear that Fareed is either a massive propagandist, or completely clueless on economic issues, OR both. I'm sitting here right now with copy of Newsweek with Henry Paulson on the front in Fareed has a huge centerfold article trying to convince me that Henry Paulson is a Hero and is coming to my rescue - by overseeing the largest transfer of public money to private banks ever.

  • America deserved 9/11.

  • HAHAHAH Come and see the politics in Bulgaria stupid assholes! You dont know what Braindead is fucking asshole!

  • Fareed Zakaria always seems to make a compelling and logical argument.

  • Right On the money Video!

  • American politics = brain dead. AGREED!

  • High technology and the good life have turned Americans into utopians, fussy perfectionists who demand heaven on earth. Anytime a sound proposal falls short of perfection, we consider it not good, rather than good enough. Hamlet asked to be or not to be, that is the question. In our growing shortages of infrastructure food, fuel and water we've given our answer: not to be.

  • its sad though, because the civic spirit is there

people do want to serve us just not in these stupid missions

the global game is no longer us

    number one player

the creed of fareed-political science it is true

us is lazy and under the threat of climate change

SHOULDVE PUT GORE IN POWER, PEOPLE

  • First "WE" is the real problem. immigrates in power is so overwhelming that it is self destructive. examples such as homeland security head director is a israel citizen. it goes on & on,absolute missing the real spirit of North America. the Mr know it all as been program to mislead the truth.

  • Yes, agreed. Americans have become lazy and arrogant.

  • I believe that what he is saying is true. More and more options are becoming open to people in other places as to where they do their business and who they do it with, so why should other countries adhere to what the U.S. says or wants?

  • amazing thoughts and insight. washington should listen closely to this guy

  • Islam is not a crime against anyone or anything.

You know nothing of Islam if you claim it is a crime.

  • "Islam is not a crime against anyone or anything.

You know nothing of Islam if you claim it is a crime."

I think he meant "crime against humanity" as a figure of speech--that it perpetuates evil, more than that it itself is a crime.

  • Well, americans are very often more or less brain-dead, that's a known fact. And the politicians aren't much different from the common hicks or hillbillies there. What will America do to try to solve history's greatest problem/threat ever, the climate crisis? Maybe "pray" to the great, invisible SkyDaddy some 80 or 90 percent of them seriously believe in? Haha, or maybe just wait for "The Rapture" or "The Second Coming" or what ever, that so many of the tards also belieeeve in? Braindead indeed.

  • Americans think world trade is great as long as they don't loose their soverity, their safties & standar laws, their economy.

Most Americans believe that countries we trade with should apply the same standards for their own people. Human rights, protected land laws, safety, and have soverignty.

Business is always looking for cheep and unprotected labor and to maximize profits.

    That is what is immoral.

This is really a no brainer, no matter how slick or how you twist words.

  • the truth hurts

  • i will be honest i think this guy is brain dead, all he is known for is to write 'splashy' stories that is all..i relaly hate him, he is just anotehr journalist trying to make a name through stupid glamorization of important events

  • agreed

  • ''not talking to dictators''??? LOOOL. Yeah, because Saudi Arabia is a heaven of democracy. And all other US friends in the region are not dictators righT? lmao.

  • "Are you incapable of having a coherent conversation?"

"Hooya: I can see you took Liberal Child development too! If you can keep on talking you think you have Opportunity for a free pass! I took that call in girl friend 1A:"

lol wut? I guess you're trying to tell me that yes, you are incapable of having a coherent conversation.

  • "Hooya2: Like this is New and Improved Pouting or stamping your feet:" Starcatcher, I'd like you to learn another word now; non sequiter. It means a statement that does not follow from the discussion being had.

At the moment, you've used about 4 of them; 1. Your initial rant about Islam 2. Your inappropriate usage of the word "repeat" 3. Your accusation that I'm a "brain-washed liberal" and 4. That sentence about "stamping your feet".

Are you incapable of having a coherent conversation?

  • for the record I think starcatcher is a total douchebag for raising an unrelated issue. I don't think he even watched this video....as for the video, I think zakaria is spot on. we need to hold washington more accountable. our government needs to free itself of the leeches known as special interests and lobbyists!!! only then can america be as nimble and responsive as it once was many years ago, and perhaps less imperial than it's past.(?)

  • The US couldn't possibly be less Imperial than she is and has been and will always be. Imperial is just crap.

Free ourselves from special interests and lobbyists? LOL Grow up .

It is the special interests that make the world go around. Old people, sick people, young people, gay people, the NRA, the unions. etc. etc. etc. .........these are all special interest groups. Lobbyists represent these special interest groups. Whom makes up all this subversive crap anyway?

  • greatsatan:you could always hope... I know how the world works btw. It's different when special interests conflict with the moral compass of our politicians. Special interests aren't just voting blocks, they are corporate leeches that feed and feed off of Washington's greed. I want special interests to be limited to voting blocks, that way representatives can more clearly reflect their constituents. "the us couldn't possibly be less imperial"????WTF, you are an idiot!! voting mccain I presume?

  • "Let me repeat!" And again, NOTHING YOU SAY AFTER THAT IS A REPETITION OF WHAT YOU SAID BEFORE.

Look the word repeat up in a dictionary, and then try to use it properly.

  • "With you being the typical Liberal brain washed college kid..." Of course, I don't agree with one thing and so I must be brain-washed! You don't even know me.

"...are you also aware that What ever Mohammed did is the standard for what a "GOOD" Muslim is to do and follow?" That's basic Islamic doctrine--who doesn't know that?

And before you even start, I'm also well aware of the story of Aisha.

Again, this is not the place; there are plenty of Islam videos out there.

  • "Let me repeat my intention: [a whole bunch of insults, none of which can either be classified as intentions or repetition of what you said earlier]"

No wonder you posted a comment that has nothing to do with the video--heck, you can't even keep track of what your own sentences are about!

Since it's obvious that you're going to put words in my mouth, I'll clarify my position; I'm well aware of the inhumane teachings of Muhammad. However, that is not relevant to this video.

  • I read some of the arguments between yourself and Starcatcher. I'm surprised you gave so much of your time to such an idiot. I am interested to know about the inhumane teachings of Muhammed that you make reference to----------????

  • "I am interested to know about the inhumane teachings of Muhammed that you make reference to----------????"

There are plenty of sources out there about the general misogyny, the racism, and the violence Muhammad demanded.

  • "Hooya2: Are you saying that..."

I've made it perfectly clear what I was saying; if you have trouble understanding what I've said, reread my above comment a couple times until you get it. If you simply don't want to understand what I've said, then please, don't post your response as a reply to my comments, because I'm not interested.

  • "official: So you advocate..."

Here's what I advocate Star; you discussing this on a video about Islam. I understand that you have a Cause to support, but this is not the place.

  • you advocated baby rape in your comments on the Neil Entwistle video and I told you you were a scumbag.

    They deleted your comment.

    watch?v=0b_XVagjrVA

Besides, you should be pro-rape.... without it you probably would not be here.

  • lol... now thats funny....

  • your existence is a crime against humanity.

  • What? Star, what the hell was the point of that comment? How does that have anything to do with this video?
