Would you rather have a performer of his caliber stand still in order to sing? THAT would be a letdown. In some instances, live singing would substantially hinder his ability to be the showman that his fans paid to see. It's still his voice and performance you are hearing, not like Milli Vanilli who performed to someone elses recordings.

God that gorgeous man.... he had so much style for his time, not only in his performances but also in behaviour. He was a visionary in music and entertainment. He was a gentleman and a caring soul in life... always so classy and sexy he could blow your mind just by standing and looking at you. He almost had it all... he just wanted to compensate for his lost childhood and his loneliness but the media and greedy ppl wouldn't let him be.

The part from 1:09-1:14 is so the best. He pretends to take a puff of a cigarette, throws it on the ground and steps on it, all while dancing and making it look so cool haha.

i stil think at 8:15 he hurts himself when he lands to hard on his knees...which is why the singer came out of the line to check on him....amazingly Jackson goes on without a beat. Oh no, th mike was off then, he only started sing live at the back part, the improvisation part, around 7 minutes part.... the mike became on too slow, then michael was supposed to sing live, he was really singing, but the mike was off, so no sound. If you listen carefully, you can hear him shouting! LOL~~

Not true, he did sing live during most of his concert performances (check out the Bad tour from Japan). Every song was performed live. His award show performances were usually lipsynched (at least part of it) because that's done specifically for TV. But usually he'll lipsynch the first part of the song, then sing the second part live (he does this in most Billie Jean performances at around the 4 min mark). Because it blends so seamlessly, people never realize he lips part of it.
Yeah for the Bad tour, he sang live for all the songs, during the Dangerous tour, he sang 70% live, 30% lip-synced. The HiStory tour he sang all lip-synced except a few lines of 2-3 songs. But he had a throat problem then. Oh and the This Is It, he was going to lip-sync every song...sad he passed away! Love You MJ!!

A great performance, but I do think that he hurts himself when he goes down at 8:13...he goes into a crawl for just a bit, then gets back up. I do not believe that the male singer would have gone over to him like that otherwise.
No. It was supposed to be the equivalent of an emotional breakdown when he goes down to his knees. The theme of the song is "stand up and make a change". The man helps "life him up" so he can make that change. He's telling a story with the entire performance. He's clearly not injured because he spins effortlessly and drops easily to his knees again later on in the performance.
This man was the definition of performance. He had so much energy, and I can't even imagine how hard it is to do those extremely fast spins and land on your knees like that.

Lol, no it's a lipsynch in "The way you make me feel". There is no mic and it's identical to the album version. Whenever he uses an album track to peform to, he ALWAYS lipsynchs part of it so he can dance. But the second half of MITM is sung completely live (you can tell when his mic switches on at 7:20). He usually speeds up the tempo and has different instruments and adlibs on his live vocal performances (ie during the Bad tour in 88). I've been watching him do this for about 25 years now.
WHY, must you point all this stuff out? Why do you deem that necessary? It doesn't reduce any of the respect/admiration we all have for him, its just annoying. I mean, it's not like we don't notice these itty-bitty bits of the performance, but the illusuon he was trying to create, was a believable performance. You spotted the mistakes, WELL DONE. The mic doesn't cut "off", they just cut it on "late" when the backing track was subdued and his live vocals were supposed to start. From that point all, all the ad-libs, inflections and vocals were very different from the album version. Prior to that, it was clearly the album we were listening to. He does the same thing in Billie Jean performances from 1997 onwards. The first half is lipped, then the second half after the moonwalk sequence is live.
MJ was using the pin up mic, which in those days were rare and used by tops like FBI's... for tracing..... he was ahead, way too.... with technology can provide like his patented inclination shoe.
Michael Jackson is an amazing performer no doubt, but I find it quite difficult to understand why someone of his amazing talent would resort to lip synching. You don't find that odd at all? What's the point to the performing if you're not going to sing your songs? I can't be the only one disappointed by this, especially since it so difficult to find actual live renditions of THIS song.

Haha...he's always lip'syncing... but i guess it don't matter at all...he performed so well!! No one even cares whether he sang it live or not, they are just so happy to see Michael on stage dancing!! He rock the stage!! So cool!!!

Not true, he did sing live during most of his concert performances (check out the Bad tour from Japan). Every song was performed live. His award show performances were usually lipsynched (at least part of it) because that's done specifically for TV. But usually he'll lipsynch the first part of the song, then sing the second part live (he does this in most Billie Jean performances at around the 4 min mark). Because it blends so seamlessly, people never realize he lips part of it.

Yeah for the Bad tour, he sang live for all the songs, during the Dangerous tour, he sang 70% live, 30% lip-synced. The HiStory tour he sang all lip-synced except a few lines of 2-3 songs. But he had a throat problem then. Oh and the This Is It, he was going to lip-sync every song...sad he passed away! Love You MJ!!

Yes that's true!!! and I wonder! why people dont understand that he was human and is "IMPOSIBLE" to sing like him a whole concert dancing like that!!
I can't dance like him and just trying to dance and sing at the same time is like a torture to me!! HE WAS and IS AMAZING!!!

Yeah that's right, but most songs he isn't lip'syncing, but yeah it's hard to sing every day your songs to a great audience.. =D

yep.. i know he sang live for the bad tour, 70% livevfor dangerous tour and 1% live for history tour.... haha who cares, seeing him dancing on stage alone is enough to rock the stage! WAY TO GO MICHAEL!!!!

7:17 onwards was live yes and that shows that the man could sing his heart out while dancing like quicksilver! People need to appreciate and enjoy the talent they were fortunate enough to witness in their lifetimes. Future generations will envy all of us for this privilege.

A great performance, but I do think that he hurts himself when he goes down at 8:13...he goes into a crawl for just a bit, then gets back up. I do not believe that the male singer would have gone over to him like that otherwise.

No. It was supposed to be the equivalent of an emotional breakdown when he goes down to his knees. The theme of the song is "stand up and make a change". The man helps "life him up" so he can make that change. He's telling a story with the entire performance. He's clearly not injured because he spins effortlessly and drops easily to his knees again later on in the performance.

okay michael werent lip synchin, he did have a mic on the way u make me feel, its on hes shirt colour so he could dance, if u look closey, n yes michael does sound the same as he does on the cds because hes voice is just that good :) u can tell hes singin cos one of hes mics cut off durin man in the mirror n u can stil hear him but not as loud, if he was gona lip synch y would he get a all them ppl doin the bak ins, besides michaels a perfectionist! wot u see is wot u get! thats why hes the king

Lol, no it's a lipsynch in "The way you make me feel". There is no mic and it's identical to the album version. Whenever he uses an album track to peform to, he ALWAYS lipsynchs part of it so he can dance. But the second half of MITM is sung completely live (you can tell when his mic switches on at 7:20). He usually speeds up the tempo and has different instruments and adlibs on his live vocal performances (ie during the Bad tour in 88). I've been watching him do this for about 25 years now.

WHY, must you point all this stuff out? Why do you deem that necessary? It doesn't reduce any of the respect/admiration we all have for him, its just annoying. I mean, it's not like we don't notice these itty-bitty bits of the performance, but the illusuon he was trying to create, was a believable performance. You spotted the mistakes, WELL DONE. Now leave it please so we can just enjoy his work. :D

Calm down Ms. sensitive! I'm just correcting someone's mistake. Why are you taking offense? I never said it diminished his performance in any way. I think he's genius for even thinking of that in the first place (when nobody else would ever have thought of that). I'm the biggest MJ fan in the world so why would I want to make him seem flawed. I'm just answering someone's statement that was false and explaining why. Sorry to offend you!

The mic doesn't cut "off", they just cut it on "late" when the backing track was subdued and his live vocals were supposed to start. From that point all, all the ad-libs, inflections and vocals were very different from the album version. Prior to that, it was clearly the album we were listening to. He does the same thing in Billie Jean performances from 1997 onwards. The first half is lipped, then the second half after the moonwalk sequence is live.

Michael Jackson is an amazing performer no doubt, but I find it quite difficult to understand why someone of his amazing talent would resort to lip synching. You don't find that odd at all? What's the point to the performing if you're not going to sing your songs? I can't be the only one disappointed by this, especially since it so difficult to find actual live renditions of THIS song.
